Friends Many of you were asking what has happened to me .Here is my story .Timmy was born in Northamptonshire on the 05 .02 2007.
He was a runt of the litter
I was so happy when he arrived in my life I wanted a dachshund since I was a little girl and here he was so small and perfect. He spent his first night sleeping wrapped around my neck like a scarf and from that moment we were lost to that little creature.
He injected so much joy into our life.Typical dachshund feisty ,stubborn ,little bolt of energy and happiness.
First indication that there was something wrong was one Monday morning in May 2010 when he didn’t seem his usual bouncy and happy self.
I took him to the vet who examined him and couldn’t find anything wrong. It was such a relief. We went to work as usual.I had to go out and left Timmy with my colleague who called me in panic saying that pacing around and shivering.
( Now I know that those are the symptoms of acute back pain). We went back to the Vet and he discovered tenderness in his lower back and weakness in hind legs and tail . Tim was kept there overnight in a crate for observation. In the morning he was “off his legs”and was refereed to Fitzpatrick Neurology and Orthopaedic Referrals ( TV Supervet) where found out that Tim suffers from IVDD ( intervertebral disc disease) he had an MRI scan was classified as grade 4 Myelopathy and was recommended for immediate surgery with no guarantees
After the operation we found out that one of the prolapsed discs shattered and
those pieces imbedded itself in the spinal cord damaging it .This meant that he would never walk or have control of his bladder and was running a very high risk of developing Myelomalacia .and may not make it trough the night.
We were totally devastated .We didn’t care about the paralysis anymore just wanted our baby to live!!!
I cried all the way home blaming myself , thinking over and over about what has happened and why
After a sleepless night we went back to Fitzpat
