4yr old 16.3hh approx by Weiti Handy Andy out of Ngahiwi Focus (Bay Indoctro/Indoctro VDL/Emillion VDL)

Spud as he’s affectionately known as by his closest friends, has recently been broken in and had some schooling before coming home.

He is a special boy - can at times be rather sensitive however has a very kind and willing nature.

Being the oldest of my youngsters, he will go and experience life out and about for a little while before having a break before the next season begins.

My gorgeous boy Hugo is progressing very will with his break in. He’s a very smart fellow and enjoys his time in working. Won’t be long and he will be out adventuring round the place! 🥰 A big thank you to Aleisha for laying such great foundations and to Clare who got put in the deep end today on her first day helping out! Fantastic job!

Otherwise known as Dougie is another 3yr old I purchased as a weanling at the same time and from the same breeder as Hugo. I must say I really love their horses 😂

Dougie has a big personality and as he’s maturing, is proving to be quite a sensible young chap with a very good brain for training!

He has now joined Hugo and is in the early stages of his break in and is getting gold stars every day! 🌟

I sadly can’t keep all of the young ones so he is on the market. With his breeding and brain someone is going to have a phenomenal horse for the future. 🥰

Affectionately known as Hugo is a 3yr old I purchased as a weanling with the intention of breaking him in and he becoming one of my main fleet of horses in the coming years.

Unfortunately with my accident, I have been unable to be part of his break in process in the way I would have liked.

But he’s got his other favourite person here doing the hard yards for me (not really hard, Hugo is one of the easiest horses around!)

I can’t wait for the coming seasons with this horse. 🥰

Dougie is a gorgeous grey 3yr old gelding EMH 16.1hh currently around 15.3hh and growing. By ES Diamant B out of a TB mare by Montjeu/Kingdom Bay.

He has the breeding to be a fantastic show jumper/eventer. Has lovely movement, good looks and a very correct jump technique.

Has been well handled, good for the farrier, cover, tie up, etc.

Dougie is only on the market as rider has a significant injury (unrelated to Dougie) and will be unable to ride for some time.

He will be a very exciting horse to watch in the future.

Dougie has a very friendly, confident nature. He is correct in type being compact and uphill he should mature nicely.

Will be a great investment for someone wanting to produce a great horse!

Seeking expressions of interest

ECM Stables is looking for a working student for the months of August and September with the possibility of continued work for the right person.

Would entail feeding, mucking out, handling/holding young horses for farrier/vets etc. Some riding is also possible depending on skill level.

Must have license and own transport. Also need to be hard working as often may be early morning starts. Confidence and experience with young/unbroken horses is a must.

Farm is in Maungatapere.

A beautiful arena and jumps paddock to utilise during these winter months. Currently arena has no jumps set as we are making the most of the good ground while we can! $10 per horse per hour. Washbay, yards, round yard for lunging and a full turn around for floats/trucks.

We can even clip your horse on site if booked on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays - $60 for any half clip, $80 for full clip (half legs/face), $100 for all off (full face/legs).

With the weather being pretty reasonable lately, we have put a jump course out on the grass to hire! $10 per horse for an hour. Washbay and yards available also.

A little update for everyone

In November last year I had a rather unfortunate fall at the North Island Show Jumping Championship show. It landed me in Middlemore hospital with left side paralysis and a pretty decent concussion.

After a month there I was transferred to Whangārei hospital where I did a further few weeks and began my physical rehab.

It’s been a rather rough road to recovery and there is still plenty of steps to cover before I can even begin to work the horses again but I have regained some strength and the ability to walk again which is a fantastic start (just in time for Christmas too! Even better!)

So for the time being, I won’t be seen too much at the stables, a friend is managing the horses for me but will still be hiring the arena for riding and will likely have jumps set out on the grass for a bit of a change of scenery.

As for my two horses - Exclusive NZPH is looking to expand her resume and become a broodmare and Ake Ake is being ridden by a lovely young rider who is aiming to have some fun for the rest of this show jumping season.

As much as I miss riding and being out with the young horses - it is great to know they are all being so well looked after and I still get to see Berry (Ake Ake) out enjoying herself on the circuit and teaching another rider the ropes.

Fantastic start to the Woodhill Show today with Spade - Exclusive NZPH winning the Amateur class and 3rd in the 1.15m. Berry - Ake Ake has an honourable mention for being the most honest horse during her 1.15m where a long spot in the double had her rider was very much unseated 😂 she also jumped round the 1.10m in fantastic style!

Exclusive NZPH

Affectionately known as Spade at home, Spade is a 9yr old warmblood mare that I purchased in 2020 as a competitive show jumper.

Our second season together was going well, learning how to ride this powerful mare often had its ups and downs but soon we were on track to finishing the show season positively! That was until March 2022…

Spade began to colic one Thursday afternoon and even with vet intervention she was unable to right herself. A quick trip down to Vet Associates showed she had a displacement in her colon. Surgery was required to give her any chance at coming right from this episode.

The vet surgeon took her in and managed to successfully fix the displacement. Fantastic news! A long road to recovery began. With everything going well for the first few weeks all was looking good. Sadly that wasn’t the end of Spades troubles. Her displacement reoccured and she was sent back down to Vet Associates for more rehabilitation.

For a long 6 months Spade was carefully managed and was able to come back into ridden work even, defying a guarded prognosis she has come back into the competition ring and last weekend really outdid herself!!

We entered into the Amateur Rider class at Woodhill GP Show last weekend and ended up placing 6th!

It’s been a long road to recovery but for now Spade looks to be doing well.

I’d like to give massive thanks to all the vets who worked to safely correct the colic, Sam for all your help in rehabbing Spade allowing her to come back into ridden work and everyone else who has supported us along the way!

Worker wanted!

We are looking for a hard-working person to fill a part-time, short-term position available at our stables.

Hours are 6am-7.30am & 4pm-6pm 6 days a week and possible extra hours as agreed. For the right person, there could be an opportunity for ongoing employment.

You must have experience in horse handling, especially with young horses

You need to be:
- Reliable & Consistent
- Respectful
- Able to work alone
- Have attention to detail & the horse’s well being

Jobs include but are not limited to
- Feed outs Am & Pm
- Mucking out stables
- General care for all the horses
- Shifting horses
- Holding horses for the farrier
- General stable up-keep

Owned and run by Elise Moffat - a show jump rider in Whangarei. ECM Stables offers a multitude of different services.

We have quality grazing available, can care for horses needing spelling or rehabilitation work also.

We also offer schooling, breaking in and sales on behalf. Lessons are also available if you have your own horse.

Facilities include an arena with a large jump course, parking/turning space for both floats and trucks, a wash bay, a horse weigh station, post and rail/hot wire fencing, a round yard, stables and open yards.

Over the past few months there has been a fair bit of remodelling around the place. We now have a large sand arena with a 8 piece jump course, includes a liverpool and fillers. There is a wash-bay available and a truck turn around loop for easy parking right beside the arena. If you would like to hire the arena please PM! Located in Maungatapere

Our facilities are safe and perfect for young horses learning the ropes to becoming a well rounded sport horse or for those older horses needing a refresher or preparing for sale.
