I have to say that fish farming is a hobby that requires you to use your intelligence, and body. Today, I will talk about changing water.
It can be said that changing the water can improve the survival rate of your fish. Since you have chosen the hobby of fish farming, the most taboo thing is not to change the water.
Let's discuss it into 3 questions.
1. Why change the water?
2. How to change the amount of water is correct?
3. End some rumors about products that fool you and strengthen your theoretical knowledge.
1. Why should the fish tank be changed frequently?
There are two main reasons for changing water.
One is that water quality can be improved by changing the water. Organic matter such as fish manure and food residues will produce toxic substances such as ammonia nitrogen compounds and nitrite.
You may say that nitrifying bacteria can convert ammonia into nitrite, nitrate, and more.
But transformation and decomposition require time, which is far behind the excretion speed of fish and the speed at which you feed. Therefore, when your fish tank has not changed water for a while, the water will become turbid.
Second, changing the water can stimulate the growth of fish, activate the fish’s immune system, and speed up metabolism. This is the same as a person. If you stay in a greenhouse all the time, you can easily fall ill if you go out in the cold or hot, but you can exercise regularly, take a shower in the winter and swim in the winter, and you will be healthy.
2. How often is the water changed, and how much is correct for each change?
The general water change is not more than one-third each time, and the time period is twice a week in summer. Once a week in spring, autumn and winter, because the temperature in summer is high and the bacteria in the water are active, the water temperature can be above 30 degrees without a heating rod, and the spoilage reaction that occurs naturally is fast. As long as there are organisms in the water, it will bring a lot of organic matter. Corruption occurs, just like the leftovers of summer may be broken in one day.
The reason for the lower frequency of water changes in spring, autumn and winter is that the weather is not too hot and the water quality is relatively stable, and the risk of water changes in these seasons is higher, especially in winter! Because the temperature difference of the water added is large, few people have this condition to heat the water before adding it to the fish tank. Fish are very easy to get sick in the temperature difference environment, especially white spot disease and water mold, so reduce the frequency appropriately ,reduce risk.
But there are exceptions to everything. These are limited to the amount of water exchange for fish raised at normal densities. The density of fish is very high or very low, and the frequency of water change can also be adjusted appropriately. For example, I have 10 small lantern fishes in a 39 inch tank. The amount of pollutants produced by these fish in a year may not be as large as that of a large fish in a day. So I don’t have a big problem with changing the water every six months.
3. Don't buy some products that fool you, they claim that they can not need to change the water
At present, there is no thing on the market that can completely decompose fish f***s. Human technology can't do it. It doesn't conform to the knowledge you learned in junior high school. Can a few dollars a bottle of potion on the market solve it? Just use the strongest filtration, more or less there will be residues, so that over time, the concentration of harmful substances in the fish tank is getting higher and higher. I believe that many fish farmers will find that the fish tank water is clear when cleaning the sand at the bottom of the fish tank, but the sand inside is very dirty, full of fish f***s. In this case, what should I do if the fish tank is not cleaned?
