As an all-volunteer 501C3 rescue group in Sioux Falls South Dakota, SEPR's mission is to promote responsible Pit Bull ownership, provide breed education, combat pet overpopulation through community outreach, and find qualified homes for sound Pit Bull dogs in the United States. Because of our love for dogs and our knowledge of each dog's particular situation and needs, we work hard to make sure e

ach placement is the best one possible for both the dog and the adoptive family. Please do not be discouraged by our application process—think of us as doggie matchmakers! We know our dogs inside and out and will work with you before, during, and after the adoption process to find the right dog for you and to make the transition into your home a smooth and successful one—that is our commitment to you and to these dogs. Part of that is controlling the pet population, as hundreds of thousands of unwanted animals end up at shelters annually. Sadly, many of them don’t make it out of the shelter alive—and the odds of finding “happily ever after” are especially stacked against Pit Bull type dogs. For these reasons, SEPR makes sure that every dog that comes into our rescue is spayed or neutered before being adopted into a forever home. If you cannot afford to have your dog spayed or neutered, please contact us—financial assistance may be available. If your dog is spayed or neutered, consider contributing to SEPR, as the routine medical procedures for our dogs(spay/neuter, microchip, shots) are one of the biggest expenses the rescue has. Above all, spread the word—a “fixed” dog is a happier, healthier dog!

November has brought all the holiday festivities and cheer to our homes. With Thanksgiving right around the corner everyone is preparing for their big family feast! What is the most important part of any Thanksgiving meal? 🥘 The GRAVY!!!!

And just like that this holiday soirée is complete! After a year of patience, SEPR Gravy is headed home with Lindsey and Steve to celebrate a loving family this holiday season. 🦃

: One of the phrases that has become hugely popular among well-meaning pit bull advocates is "It's all how they're raised."

No, it's not. If that were true, then NO rescue dog would ever be redeemable, and no adult dog would be adoptable. What matters most isn't the past; it's the PRESENT and how you manage it. This saying does contain a kernel of truth, but "how they’re raised” is just one of the factors that contribute to who our dogs are. It’s not the whole story.

We have thousands of wonderful alumni who continue to prove that management is the biggest factor in their success moving forward.

So can we finally put to rest the phrase “it’s all how they’re raised”? It undermines the efforts of dogs and their owners.

Let’s replace it with the truth:

It’s all how they’re managed. Dogs are only as successful as we set them up to be.

Still brave enough to take on the challenges and unknowns of a pup? Meet SEPR Ike and Zeta, who are learning important play manners. We are looking for families to impress us with their knowledge to adopt each of them!

Remember: puppies are like newborn babies! They require a LOT of work, and even when “raised right,” we cannot guarantee who their individual personalities will develop into as adults. We seek families who clearly understand this and are willing to “wow” us with their canine leadership and knowledge. Love must be guaranteed for LIFE, not just when they are small, cute, and cuddly.

Families with children aged 5 years and under who wish to adopt puppies will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Raising a puppy properly takes a lot of time, and we understand that in families with small children, time can be a limited commodity.

We're a bit late in announcing our Foster of the 3rd Quarter for 2024, but we haven't forgotten!

A huge and well-deserved shoutout to Ellison!

Ellison has been fostering SEPR Bonner, juggling this commitment with a busy life that includes her own dogs, kids, and managing the challenges of living out of town. Through it all, she balances her work, family, and personal life while still finding the time and energy to make sure Bonner participates in training classes and events.

We couldn’t make the impact we do without the dedication of foster families like Ellison. The passion and commitment of our amazing foster homes remind us all of the power of love and selflessness in helping these amazing dogs.

As of October 2024, Pixie and Holstein have been in the Sioux Empire Pit Rescue foster program for four long years. Despite their loving foster families dedicating countless hours to training and care, both dogs are beginning to deteriorate mentally as they wait for their forever homes. Foster homes should be a bridge to permanent placements where these dogs can truly thrive.

We are DESPERATELY seeking loving homes for Pixie and Holstein during the month of November!

🧚 Pixie Stixx’s has been waiting for her family for 1485 DAYS!!!! 🏡 ♥️♥️

Pixie is that perfect balance of sweet senior chill and adventure. She appreciates a good book or movie cuddle session and on the flip side loves tagging along for any type of fun adventures. It truly takes very little to please Pixie. Who wouldn’t love this?

🐩 Pixie is dog social when slowly introduced and allowed time to settle in. She adores her canine foster brother and prefers her kennel time with a friend. Pixie would also thrive being someone's one and only, on the flip side.

🐈‍⬛ Pixie is a terrier and has typical drive, so a home without a feline is a must!

Pixie arrived very shut down after being left in a small city shelter. Due to being dumped we have worked with this lady on confidence building and nailing down a wheelhouse of commands and behaviors. She has an entire team behind her with SEPR, Big Paws Canine, and Nerdy K9 Academy.

🌈 Pixie’s ideal home would be any one that is just looking for a right hand girl. She adores people and truly just wants to be loved and cherished. Pixie still struggles from kennel anxiety so a WFH family or someone to bring her to work would be ideal.

👠 Pixie walks well on leash with her gentler leader. She can be site reactive with other animals, so we always give her lots of space and bubbles to move away. She is also 💯 muzzle trained!

Car rides are definitely enjoyed with all her favorite humans. 🚗

🧚‍♀️ Pixie has been such a patient girl waiting for her forever family. As you can clearly see she has no problem playing dress up; however, and being with her favorite friends. We KNOW they are out there. Please SHARE Pixie’s webpage and help us find them!

🐄 Holstein has been waiting for his family for 1470 DAYS!!!! 🏡 ♥️♥️

Holstein is the class clown and jokester! He is your typical young outgoing terrier. Holstein appreciates about any fun outing and adventure with his humans.

🐕 Holstein wants to be the king of his castle and monopolize your attention and lap all to himself. He might be able to acclimate with a VERY chill female with strong capable leadership!

🐈 Holstein is a terrier and has typical drive, so a home without a feline is a must!

Holstein arrived with a stomach obstruction. Exploratory surgery found three plastic cups that had likely been sitting in his guts for months. After recovering from that ordeal, Holstein contracted Lepto which almost killed him. Holstein miraculously has made almost a full recovery and only needs prescription renal food as his only lasting medical need. Due to his physical trauma Holstein is selective about physical touching in his sensitive areas.

🔥 Holsteins' ideal home would be a single dude that enjoys spending all free time with this heartthrob of a hunk of burning love. Holstein has major boy crushes!!

👟 Holstein walks well on leash with his gentler leader. Even though he would prefer no other dogs in his home, he pays very little attention to other dogs out and about.

Car rides are a must with his favorite humans. 🚙

🐄 Meet Holstein
Holstein arrived October 26, 2020. Holstein had a prior owner that was a veteran and suffered from severe PTSD. Due to this Holstein and the other dogs in his apartment were confined to a kennel for days, weeks, if not months. Holstein would eat anything available to be able to sustain. Said to have 9 lives, Holstein almost has died from eating plastic condiment cups after months after arriving with SEPR exploratory surgery final uncovered this riddle. Not long after that Holstein contracted Lepto, which again almost took his life. Barely clinging to survival he was brought back from the brink of death with only minor kidney and liver issues. Through all this trauma Holstein has shown a zest for life, but can be very particular about how and when he is touched by his family. He needs a home without dogs, cats, or children, as he currently lives a crate-and-rotate lifestyle with other dogs in his foster home. His foster family's demanding work schedule doesn't allow them to give him the attention he deserves, and sadly, his liver and kidney values are slowly beginning to decline. At around 5-6 years old, he is living on borrowed time and would thrive in a calm environment with a devoted owner. Holstein does not take any medications and eats Royal Canine Renal for his renal health. He gravitates towards men with a calm demeanor and is always ready for an adventure or to be a loyal co-pilot throughout the day. Holstein's Webpage: https://www.pitrescue.org/holstein

🧚 Meet Pixie
Pixie arrived at the rescue on October 11, 2020, after being confined in a shelter. She would often escape her kennel to find comfort from a four-legged friend, demonstrating her dislike for confinement Pixie suffers from a lot of anxiety both in public on leash and in her kennel. However; she has never met a two legged human she does not absolutely adore, but it takes her time and slow introductions to make new canine friends. Ideal adopters would be families who work from home or have flexible schedules that allow them to help her overcome her anxiety. Pixie currently takes fluoxetine to manage her anxiety, but a nurturing home environment would do wonders for her. Over the years Pixie has been an SEPR event mascot welcoming hundreds of guest to each fundraiser. Now around 8-9 years old, she is healthy and enjoys a slower pace of life, content to snuggle up for a good book or movie. On the other hand this sweet senior still has a lot of life left in her and loves a good adventure. We desperately want to alleviate her distress in the kennel, and we need someone willing to give this petite girl the love she deserves to help her regain her joy. Pepe Le Pew has nothing on our sweet Poppy this Halloween! She is dressed in her best to steal the hearts of those she meets. While she is still learning to trust new people in her bubble her people watching skills have helped her grow more confident. Don't let this little ball of tricks and treats fool you she is the life of the party and wants a home that will let her tear around with her toys. Poppy would love to have a forever brother🐶 to pal around with and teenagers to keep busy. She promises to exercise her people siblings daily!

Astrid is our pintsized powerhouse. She is a snuggle pup and a super chewer. This little lady has a zest for life that has made her a fun treat to work with. Astrid is working on smoothing out the rough edges from her former life so she can be the shiniest diamond in the bunch! 🚨 #FosterFriday we need your immediate HELP - SECOND ASK - WE HAVE HAD ZERO INTEREST IN HELPING RICO THIS PAST WEEK!!🚨 🌟 Meet Rico Suave, an urgent foster home is needed for this distinguished gentleman likely middle aged. He was found very thin and completely covered in fleas and fly bites when picked up as a stray in a bordering city where pit bulls are a dime a dozen. AC remarks that he is a very sweet and well mannered pup needing someone place to go asap! Videos show Rico running around with another small dog and kittens paying no attention what so ever. (See videos in comments) His health and safety are our primary concern and we cannot provide safety, a warm bed, and a spot into our foster program without a willing foster family. The shelter is filling up quickly and he is definitely not comfortable in a loud kennel environment. Can you help him find a loving foster home?
