Just a little educational post,

As a person who owns all three of the animals pictured, I can confidently say that I have sustained worse damage from the bite of a dog or cat than from a snake ever in my lifetime. Don't hate on snakes just because they have the ability to bite to defend themselves when they feel threatened. I've received bites from cats that were both fearful and playful and they can be unpleasant but I still love cats. ❤ let's show some love to the animals that are misunderstood. ❤

Bismuth and I have been doing great with slow trust and handling exercises. This girl was pretty stressed about moving, I feel it's best to be patient and understanding with her, and it's really paying off!
Though I'm not a boa expert, I've gotten to see her change quite a bit in a couple months.

Her body condition doesn't appear to have changed much but she gained a whole 500 grams?! 😳
Way to go big girl. 😄

Since it's Tongue out Tuesday I thought it would be nice to introduce our new family member. Bismuth has been going through quarantine and getting established on her new environment.
Bismuth is NOT a ball python, but a Central American Boa. These boas are a locality of dwarf boa and do not reach the same size as the red-tail boa constrictor.
Her color and pattern is still quite contrasting and beautiful. She is estimated to be 4 years old and is 4+ foot long, weighing 2600 grams or nearly 6lbs.
She is by far the largest snake in the family currently and even though she's not a ball python, she is treated like royalty in this house.

A big happy birthday in the royal family to this little queen! She has come a long ways in the last year with me and was one of the most stubborn eaters. She is finally eating rats like everyone else after being a mouser for the longest time. Great job little girl! And I can't wait to see her grow even more this year. 🥰🥳

Working on some snake training. Yes, you heard that right. 😆

I've had a couple who have been really stressed and tense when handling or just getting them out for tub cleaning and weight checks. I've done Devi's tricks a few times, with tucking them under your shirt while watching tv.

While I'm in the pet room I thought it would be a good idea to slide open a couple tubs and just let them relax and be curious in their own time to build a sort of confidence that I'm not gonna poke at them every time the tub opens.

They aren't quite like handling a dog or cat or even like my guinea pig for example, lol. But I think they are much smarter than people think sometimes.
