Hurricane puppies!

Luna went into labour a little bit early and delivered 4 beautiful, healthy baby boys (there was a 5th, a girl, who unfortunately was a little underdeveloped and DOA). So proud of her for doing everything on her own with no need for any intervention, and for being such a good, caring momma.

As the babies continue to dry off and their colours become more vibrant, it seems that we have two lavenders (one possibly sable), one blue & tan, and one blue sable (like Luna).

Mom is doing great and loves her babies so much.

Every day is a lazy day when you are a loved pup.
Mazzikin, our two bred-bys Frog & Sonder, and Luna (who’s bump is already quite prominent).

Rainy days are for snuggling under blankets and staying cozy.

P.S. Luna is due for a end of Sept. litter with Adonis! Sonder, right, is an Adonis baby. All will be blue, some possibly lavender/lilac.

Relaxed babies. They love being held and doted on.
The lighter colours, though, will be the death of me! And these guys especially… they love to get into the muck. But they’re pretty sweet, so all is forgiven… although I’m not sure if bath time is forgiven.
Yolko’s babies. 8 weeks & three days.

Oh, the life of a spoiled singleton who has an incredibly patient & loving mom.
Noël’s little fiend is turning into such a hilarious, mischievous little boy with a ton of personality and charm. His mom is so wonderful with him and despite missing out on having siblings, he is receiving critical social skills (manners that will help him become such a respectful, good doggy citizen as he gets older) from his mom & the pack (the lives in the nursery, but gets to visit with the big dogs and play outside multiple times a day now)!
He is doing fantastically with pad training and is so smart and personable. His little tail is almost always wagging and he loves to be played with and doted on.

11/07/2023

Yolko’s kiddos, born June 14th (two day’s before their momma’s second birthday!) having their first bath!
Normally I don’t like bathing them this young, because babies get cold easily & they still are shaky moving around and wobbly babies can get soap or water in their nose/mouth area. However, there are exceptions to every rule, & this batch of babies is a grubby one! So I felt okay about scrubbing them up early. The water wasn’t very high, and the main thing we focused on was getting their feet nice and clean, and didn’t overdo it by making them stay wet for too long. Afterwards, they got towel dried & moved into the nice & toasty nursery (graduated from the whelping room to the nursery today)!
Two boys, Benedict & Shakshuka (sable, & white respectively), and one girl, Sunny (light cream). Benedict is about half the size of his siblings, but is still very scrappy and adventurous. I thought an egg-themed litter would be appropriate, seeing as their mom was named after an egg yolk!
These kids are adorable and are the quality I was hoping for, and I can’t wait for them to continue to grow & get nice and strong.

P.S. Sound on!

I have thought a lot about posting this, as I tend to be a more private person, and sharing difficult news can be… difficult. But I also believe in breeder transparency, and education and awareness. I think I needed time to process and mourn this loss before sharing it publicly.
As my personal friends & family already know, Desiree passed away. Desiree had a uterine infection called pyometra, which happens randomly, and primarily affects older, intact girls (usually 5yrs+), but it can also happen in younger dogs (she was 4.) It sets in after a heat cycle. The symptoms typically mimic pregnancy symptoms almost exactly. A dog typically becomes lower energy, more tired, less lively, sometimes may eat less, and/or have discharge. Desiree acted perfectly normal, until the last 3 days before her death. In the last three days I noted that she was slowing down and keeping to herself more, and sleeping more. But for a dog who slept almost all day all of the time, I wasn’t concerned, but just noted to myself to keep an eye on her. She was suspected to be pregnant, so that wasn’t out of the ordinary or concerning for a very low-energy dog such as herself, especially a pregnant one. She slept with me, like normal, and in the morning was almost comatose.
Completely blindsided we rushed her to the emergency clinic, & ran a ton of diagnostic testing before realizing it was pyometra. At that point, she was having a lot of seizures, and even after the emergency hysterectomy was completed, she didn’t wake up. We held on for multiple hours after to give her time, but the seizures didn’t stop and eventually she was declared brain-dead, so we made the humane decision to euthanize her.
When I think of Desiree, I think of a happy little goblin who loved snuggling, loved eating, and loved rummaging around for whatever she could get her little paws on (she loved scraps, and would proudly carry any wrappers that she managed to get around in her mouth). A little dog who had a hilarious personality and loved people, loved belly rubs, and being in the spotlight. Her tongue that stuck out was very endearing, and won the hearts of almost everyone who saw her. Desi would make these adorable snorting and sighing noises when she was comfy and happy, like a little piglet. She was a wonderful dog, who did not get nearly enough time on this earth. Pyometra is something I was very aware of, as any breeder, but it wasn’t something I considered in her case, until it was too late. It is something I am going to be much more careful about moving forward, and hopefully, if you own intact dogs, her story will help this become more on your radar as well.
Until we see each other again. 🕊️

I thought an update on Noël’s kiddo was in order.
This fuzzy little guy is looking quite mature now!
He is 6 weeks old now.
Noël turned into a wonderful mom, and cares for him deeply. A little too well, maybe, as he is completely spoiled on her milk w/zero interest to start weaning! Ah, the lavish life of a singleton.
He is basically a carbon copy of his mom, both in personality & looks (what she looked like, at his age… sables do tend to change quite drastically over time). Looking forward to him continuing to mature & entertain both Noël & I with his hilarious antics.
*He will not be available.*

Sunbathing! ☀️
Some awesome dogs got their CAER certifications yesterday. 🙂
Very proud of all of the dogs for going through SUCH a long day, without any peeps or complaints.
They got treated afterwards with some pepperoni sticks.
They were complimented for their temperaments by the ophthalmologist.
The dogs attending the appointment (all now certified pending OFA submission) were: Mira, Ivy, Luna, Jasper, Kiko, Frog, Sonder, Ruckus, Thalia, and Callisto!
Ivy also headed to her new home, along with Freddie (Orange Crème), and I’m very much looking forward to watching them adjust to their new home and start this exciting new chapter in their life!

We went through another emergency c-section this week.

Noël was, unfortunately, bred to Kiko, against our knowledge, at a week long stay at a boarding kennel. Noël is still quite young, which is why we were not wanting to breed her until sometime next year. Things happen, and humans make mistakes, but unfortunately this was a very costly mistake that we have had to shoulder.

Noël went into labour on Wednesday, and it became clear that she was struggling quite a lot. We drove her 1.5 hours to an emergency clinic, for a section. When the c-section was eventually performed, two out of the three pups that she was carrying had unfortunately passed away in utero.

Noël has been recovering from the trauma that is inevitably attached with c-section births, especially for a first-time mom & such a young dog.
Her baby is a carbon copy of her at that age, and is a little boy. He was 4oz at birth.
She has been doing her absolute best to love on this baby and he is pretty feisty.
I am very sad that she had to go through this, but grateful that she is OK and will recover normally.

And for a little cost transparency, especially for those who don’t understand why I ask what I do. Both emergency c-sections (Winnie & Noël’s) that have happened within weeks of each other have been 4k+ each. That is the cost of c-sections here. Winnie’s litter was lost, and 2/3 of Noël’s were lost as well. That is a significant amount of money, and that is just the tip of the iceberg. Other emergencies happen, as when dealing with life so up-close you tend to experience a lot of things, some good, a lot bad. But there is also just general vet care, health-testing, toys, beds, chews, treats, food, etc. All of the general things that come with of owning, and loving, dogs, but times however many pups you have in your crew. It is certainly not cheap, and some years we have not even broke even due to all of the expenses. This is the reality of an ethical breeding program that takes care of and loves their dogs to death, just like any pet owner.

Photo of Noël & her baby, who is looking for a name if anyone has any suggestions. ❤️

Update on Winnie, and a little rant/post about breeding, specifically breeding Chihuahuas.
Chihuahuas are a heartbreak breed. What does that mean?
Due to their fragile size, breeding Chihuahuas can be a very risky, hard thing. Breeding, dealing with Mother Nature in such an upclose way, is already risky, and difficult. Breeding the smallest breed in the world, where puppies are barely 2oz when born? There is a much higher likelihood of things going wrong. I have experienced it all. Losing my beloved dog(s) during labour. Losing puppies, from a day old to 64 days old. Emergency surgeries. Illnesses. And it goes on. It is emotionally exhausting. It is so hard. I am a human also, and I think that a lot of people don’t realize that about breeders. We are humans too. We do our best. We love our dogs greatly. We sacrifice everything, and I mean everything, for our dogs well-being and happiness. We do it because we love them. Because we love changing the world with exceptional puppies. Because we love our breed. But it is very much at the expense of our own happiness sometimes. We go through unfair, difficult losses, and have to move on so quickly because our dogs, our puppies, they depend on us. We make hard decisions.
I do my absolute best to do right by my puppies, and by my puppy parents. But I make mistakes too. Still, I always try my hardest. I learn, I grow, I change.

Sometimes, breeding doesn’t feel worth it. Sometimes, the losses hit so deeply that my soul feels in pieces. But I do adore my dogs, and that makes it worth it. As do my awesome puppy clients who adore their kiddos.

Now, for the update on Winnie a lot of you have been waiting for. Winnie did really well with her surgery. One of her puppies had curled itself up in the birth canal, and unfortunately it wasn’t wanting to come out naturally. I could tell that she was struggling a lot with birth, so we drove her to the emergency clinic and decided to do c-section after taking x-rays and looking at the problem. I was terrified for her, because we have had to do 2 c-sections in the past that ended in death for both of our girls. However, we went to a different clinic this time who was incredibly professional and super caring. They took amazing care of her, and she was able to come home the next day. All 4 of her puppies unfortunately didn’t survive surgery, though.
Rosie, the 1lb tiny baby that we have, also broke her leg on the same day. It’s a pretty serious fracture, but her injury did line up with Winnie’s healing time and they are able to help each other heal, and give each other lots of comfort, which is really wonderful. Winnie has something to love, and Rosie has lots of love and comfort. Rosie is healing well, and we hope that her leg will be perfectly normal in a few weeks.

It’s best to be totally neutral towards a dog who is unfamiliar with you, and let them come to you. There are breeds that are extremely friendly and pushy, but most dog breeds weren’t bred to be that way.
I always ask everyone who wants to meet my dogs to be calm, quiet, and to sit down as my pack really appreciates that respectful, non-threatening energy.

Winnie is having an emergency c-section today so I will need a few days to respond to messages.
Hoping that she will have a safe and successful surgery and will be back home soon.

But photos & descriptions added of our available dogs, and we also heard that accessing the application was difficult for some people! So we changed it to make it more accessible. It is such an incredible joy to raise these mischievous little rascals. They still don’t know how to properly pose for photos, but we’ll get there.
I’ve loved watching them find their legs and s***k. Their incredible personalities and their natural-born desire to love and be loved.
It is incredibly gratifying to raise puppies that will quite literally grow up to change the world, one family at a time, by being spectacular companions, and some more than that.
Their quirky, curious personalities, and snuggly souls have completely stolen my heart and I will never get it back.
I love these little guys so much. And I’m so happy to be able to guide them through every milestone and help shape them into good little canine citizens.
I can’t wait for them continue to grow and blossom.

Introducing the babies from our current litters.
6 weeks-3 weeks old now! All with wonderful growing and blossoming personalities. I’m very excited for them to continue to mature and grow.
They’re all doing super well.
I might potentially have a couple of available males/females pending waitlist reservation and my own picks for hold-backs, so feel free to reach out if you’re interested in a kiddo. ❤️

We were keeping Orange Crème for his new family in Alberta, however, unfortunately due to life circumstances they’re no longer able to take him.
So he is available! His mom is OFA tested, dad is Embark tested, and he is a longhaired cream.
He is from the sweet treat’s litter and his name can be changed by his new family.
This is the *last* chance to get a baby from Gizmo who is now neutered and retired.
He should be 5.5-6lbs full-grown.
He’s super loving, very curious, bouncy, and happy. Would do wonderful in a home with kiddos and other pets.
Peepad trained & working on going outside to do his business also! He runs with my dogs full-time and is such a well-behaved little gentleman. He also is working on crate-training and is doing quite well.
He is a lovely little pup ready to find the best home.
Lots of videos of his wonderful character available on demand 🙂

Thank you to everyone for being patient as I was slower to respond to messages for a while.
Being busy caring for everyone, while also emotionally recovering from the tragedy that I went through, sometimes I just do not have the energy for communications and tend to put them off.
Just posting to share some photos of some of the littles, and also to let everyone know that the dogs are all doing great ❤️ lots of adorable puppy cuddles happen here.

Also wanted to publicly wish Daisy’s nature/tree themed litter, Willow and Birch, a very happy 2nd birthday.

It has been a devastatingly hard time, and I felt that I needed to update everyone and apologize for being so quiet.
The puppies ended up having very serious reactions to a new deworming medication that was given by our vets. We had no idea that they would react at all, however after the fact we found out that another breeder friend of ours also experienced a similar thing a while back. It caused severe liver damage among other things.
We ended up losing almost all of our puppies, with only three left. We lost Mira’s litter minus Ravioli, 4 of Bella’s, with Orange Crème and Cannoli still alive, and Thalia’s entire litter.
Ravioli, Cannoli, and Orange Crème are doing well, with no signs of long term damage, thankfully. They are happy, healthy, and so playful and wonderful.
I am devastated that that I lost the babies. It was horrifying that there was nothing I could do for them, despite all of my efforts, and that I had to watch these beautiful, bright souls flicker and then pass away. I loved these babies so much. They all had such beautiful personalities, and were everything that I had hoped for and more. They deserved to grow into wonderful adults. They deserved to hit all of the milestones, and go on to bless all of the wonderful families waiting for them.
This was a huge tragedy that I will never fully recover from.
All of the adults and juniors are fine, as the medication was not given to them yet, just the litters.
Please understand if I am slower to reply to messages. It is hard for me to have the energy to hold a conversation right now.
Thank you. ❤️
