Happy Monday! For one last and final placement, we placed this crew from a partner rescue in Somerset on a beautiful horse farm here in Lexington, KY! This brought our grand total to 678 cats who got a second chance at life 🤍

It is with heavy hearts that we share that after years of meaningful service, the Working Cat Project will be wrapping up operations this month ❤️ Since 2020, we’ve placed over 670 at-risk feral cats into safe barn homes across Central Kentucky — giving them shelter, care, and a second chance at life. Additionally, we’ve been fortunate to sponsor hundreds of TNR surgeries and provide food to colonies in need, ensuring a brighter future for animal welfare in the Commonwealth. We are deeply grateful to every volunteer, donor, and community member who helped our mission come to life. Your compassion and support saved so many lives! Though our journey ends here, the love and change we made will never be forgotten. Thank you for believing in our cause ❤️🐱 For future barn cat needs or TNR requests, we ask you to reach out to our wonderful partner organization Spay Our Strays or your local shelter.

Happy Monday! This past week, we were able to sponsor 10 TNR surgeries for this adorable colony. Additionally, the kittens pictured will be going to their local shelter once they wean from mom. Working with community caregivers to TNR a colony prevents thousands of kittens and makes a huge dent in Kentucky’s overpopulation crisis! We are so grateful for each and every donor who make this good work possible ❤️

From rags to riches ✨ Aspen was sent to LHS from a partner organization and unfortunately returned to the shelter due to skittish behavior and injuries related to his escape. That’s where we came in — Aspen will now spend his days on a lovely flower farm with plenty of room to roam and be FREE! Happy adoption week to Aspen who finally found his forever home 💚

❣️Special Home Request❣️ We have a handsome gentleman, Simba, looking for a new home. His current owners report he has not been friendly to their small children and they are adamant they plan to surrender him to the shelter if we cannot find a home for him. He is primarily outdoors and would thrive in a loving home without small children. Could you be Simba’s second chance at a forever home? ❤️

It’s been a long summer. Frankly, it’s been a long year. As many of you know, rescues and shelters are closing down left and right due to minimal resources and support. The few of us remaining are trying to just scrape by. Google reviews like this hurt non-profits, but more importantly, they hurt the animals. Our sweet communication director responded from our WCP email (under my name) to this email with pure intentions and asked clarifying questions with no response to the questions. We are a 100% volunteer-ran organization with only a couple folks doing placements for FREE on TOP of our FULL-TIME jobs! In the 5 years I’ve been running the WCP, I’ve never shared something like this before but feel that people need to see how we are treated and under appreciated when we are some of the only people in Kentucky out here doing the damn work! All this to say — if you’ve adopted from us or worked with us in the past, please drop us a google review to help offset the unsubstantiated, hateful review. Love you all — a pregnant, irritable cat rescuer! ❤️
