I started EquiNurse back in February of this year as a little dream I had to combine my love of animals and horses with my nursing education. I wanted to create a little environment for horse owners to feel empowered and knowledgeable about equine veterinary care and first-aid management and I am so so proud to see what we have created in our very 1st year on the market! It seems fitting that we are about to hit a big goal of 2,000 followers as the year comes to a close! We are shipping to the UK and USA every month and of course I am so proud to see our kits and information being spread around Australia every week! I’m so excited to see how my little dream business grows into 2024 and I am so grateful and overwhelmed with everyone’s kindness, support and encouragement this year! The deluxe hoof kit has been designed to help you with all of your hoof woes! Hand-selected products have been compiled into this convenient and on-the-go kit to assist you in treating common hoof dilemmas such as abscesses, thrush, greasy heel/mud fever and dry/cracked hooves. The deluxe hoof kit has been created in collaboration with The Hoof Co and includes their hoof balm containing natural beeswax and essential oils to nourish and protect the hooves as well as their pink balls hoof putty made with natural clays, beeswax and pathogen fighting essential oils designed to manage thrush. The Hoof Co products are valued at $79.90.

In true EquiNurse style we have also included step by step instructional photographic cards to show you how to poultice and wrap a hoof to treat abscesses as well as a Hoof Co card containing QR codes that link to all the information your heart could desire in relation to thrush, seedy toe, white line disease, abscesses and coronet band care.

We absolutely loved meeting everyone at this weekend! What a fun time we had chatting to our existing customers and new faces aswell! It’s always nice to get out and show our products in person for everyone to see and experience!

Let’s talk colic 😖 April 24th 2020- a day I will never forget and one that taught me so very much as a horse owner.
My mare developed mild colic signs in the mid-morning. She was pawing and looking at her belly but she was still passing manure. The veterinarian came and administered Flunixin, did a re**al examination and a nasogastric drench.
Within a 2-3 hours her colic signs had returned and the veterinarian came back and did a repeat re**al examination. My worst nightmare was confirmed and she suspected that my mare had an intestinal rotation that would require surgery.
More pain relief was administered prior to travelling to the clinic. On arrival at the clinic she was dripping in sweat and no amount of sedation or pain relief could keep her from trying to roll on the concrete floor of the breezeway. An ultrasound confirmed our suspicions and she was rushed into emergency surgery.
A 180 degree rotation in her intestine was found and corrected during surgery and she came through without a complication.
The rehab journey began during which she developed an incisional infection, salmonella and was at risk of developing a hernia (which luckily she did not!)
Over the next 8 months she made a full recovery and I will be forever grateful to the vets and nurses that saved her life.
The entire experience taught me a lot with the most important being that just because your horse may be producing manure does not mean that they do not have a torsion or obstruction and if your horse’s colic signs return shortly after being given pain relief this should be considered as a red flag 🚩 for something more serious!
I have put together some information that I hope can help fellow horse owners if they ever find themselves in a similar situation! Be sure you know how to check your horse’s vital signs and be tuned in to what is normal and what may be out of the ordinary!

Did you know our first-aid products can be used on your doggo friends too 🐶👌🏼 It is stocked with plenty of bandages, wound cleaning supplies, gloves, cotton wool, thermometer and scissors! 🙌🏼 You can even practice taking your dog’s heart rate with the stethoscope! ‼️ FUN FACT ‼️ A small dogs resting heart rate should fall between approx 80-120 beats/min and a large dogs heart rate is generally slower falling between approx 60-100 beats/min ♥️

Check them daily, know what is normal and abnormal and call you vet immediately if you notice a change. Catching a change in vital signs early can be the difference between life and death.
