Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) are a type of fat found in oils, such as coconut. They help dogs by increasing ketone body production, which has many benefits including stabilizing blood sugar, promoting the burning of fat and being a great source of fuel.

Collagen makes up one-third of the protein in your dog. Therefore it’s vital to maintain sufficient levels to keep your dog healthy. The major benefits of collagen include:

- Maintaining bone and joint health
- Aiding in digestion by rebuilding the protective lining of your dog’s gut
- Helps keep a dog’s skin and coat healthy (up to 70% of a dog's skin is collagen).

Research supports the use of green lipped mussels (GLM) in several areas of joint care. However there are a few points that need to be followed:

1. Although GLM when incorporated into treats and a main meal still provided benefits, when applied as a powder directly on top of a diet, greater joint protection was achieved.
2. Using GLM powder that has been freeze dried and with minimal heat treatment produced the best results.
3. Dosage matters! The research demonstrated that significant differences with the control groups occurred when using the following amounts.
Dogs > 34kg (75lbs) 1000mg per day
Dogs 25 - 34kg (55 -75lbs) 750mg per day

Myth-buster!

High-fat diets don't always cause gastrointestinal issues in dogs. In fact, research shows that dogs on high-fat diets didn't display significant signs of bloating, vomiting, or abdominal pain compared to those on high-carb diets. It's all about finding the right balance for your dog's unique needs.

While homemade diets can be a great option for dogs, research has found some facts we should all be aware of.

* Recipe alterations: Over 30% of dog owners using a nutritionist-advised diet admitted to changing the recipe.
* Improper measurements: 40% failed to control ingredient portions.
* Missing supplements: More than 28% skipped essential vitamins, minerals, or amino acids.
* Recipe quality: 92% of DIY recipes had vague or incomplete instructions, leaving room for error.
* Health risks: 6% of homemade recipes contained harmful ingredients for dogs.

Did you know that fat provides more than double the energy of carbs? When fat is the primary energy source, it helps conserve glycogen (stored carbs), ensuring your dog doesn’t "run out" of quick energy during intense activities. Fat also provides an excellent choice for endurance and stamina, providing a constant ongoing supply of energy.

Did you know that what your dog’s chooses to eat might be more important than you think? Recent studies show that dogs naturally lean toward fat for energy. This behavior can be traced back to their wild ancestors, where fat was a priority during times of physical demands or limited food.

So, when you’re choosing food for your pup, make sure it aligns with their natural nutrient preferences!

Pay attention to your dog’s digestive health!

Dysbiosis, which is an imbalance in gut bacteria, can cause symptoms like diarrhea, bloating, or discomfort. If you notice any of these signs, it may be time to reconsider your dog’s diet. The right diet can help balance their gut bacteria, improve digestion, and keep your dog feeling their best.

Maintaining a healthy gut is key to your dog’s overall well-being!

Pancreatitis in dogs occurs when digestive enzymes activate too early, causing inflammation and, in severe cases, damage to the pancreas. While it’s a serious condition, understanding its causes can help you make better dietary choices for your furry friend.

A minimally processed, balanced diet rich in protein and fats could support better pancreatic health. Meanwhile, extruded diets may require a closer look due to their processing and high carbohydrate content.

Keep an eye on their diet, choose quality ingredients, and consult experts to find what’s best for their unique needs.

Did you know that raw eggs (with their shells) can be a great addition to your dog's diet? Eggs are packed with essential nutrients like selenium, iron, vitamin A, B12, fatty acids, and more!

For most dogs, feeding a raw egg 2-3 times a week is enough. If you have a small dog, you can try feeding them a quail egg instead!

Tip: Always feed raw eggs in moderation as part of a balanced diet! Your dog will love this extra nutrient boost, and you’ll love knowing they’re getting natural, healthy food.

Is your dog having trouble with weight? It could be because of the carbohydrates in their diet!

Most commercial dog foods are high in carbohydrates, which can lead to an imbalance in their nutrition. When a dog's diet is high in carbs but low in protein and fat, they may overeat in an attempt to meet their protein and fat needs. This can contribute to obesity and other health issues.

For a healthier, more balanced diet, try limiting carbohydrates and increasing the intake of high-quality protein and healthy fats. This helps keep your dog’s energy levels steady and supports their overall well-being.

Studies show that both wolves and domestic dogs naturally select meat-based diets rich in fat and protein, with minimal carbohydrates.

Wolves in the wild target fat first for its high energy content—essential for survival in feast-and-famine conditions. Similarly, when dogs are allowed to self-select their meals, they initially consume large amounts of fat, gradually balancing it with more protein as their needs change.

This instinctive preference reveals the remarkable connection between our furry companions and their wild lineage.
