Laparoscopic right adrenalectomy in a cat
Happy Monday, everyone! This laparoscopic right adrenalectomy is courtesy of Dr. Hiroo Kanai out of Hyogo, Japan. The patient is an 8yo MC mixed breed cat who had an incidentally discovered right adrenal mass. He had no clinical symptoms, despite his 1.3cm diameter R adrenal gland. The right adrenal gland was removed laparoscopically with a 4-port technique (see last image), and biopsy revealed an adrenocortical adenoma. The cat is reportedly in good health over 2 months post-op. Dr. Kanai used the E-Z Purse bag as his retrieval device and recommended the use of ultrasonic instrumentation (he used Thunderbeat). Tips for a successful lap adrenalectomy from Hiroo: (1) don’t grab the tumor directly during dissection and (2) it is crucial to have knowledge of the microanatomy around the adrenal gland. Thank you for the contribution, Dr. Kanai! #mis #adrenalectomy #laparoscopicsurgery #ves
