A little late to the party, but we're hoping all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! 🍂🍗

🚨 Hurricane Helene Assistance Trip 🚨

UPDATE: The Amazon Shipping Address issue has been fixed. We apologize.

As you may know, we have been organizing a trip to go and assist residents, law enforcement agencies, and SAR teams in the NC and TN mountains. We will be leaving on October 15th and driving our personal vehicles with trailers down to the areas hit the hardes by Hurricane Helene.

We have set up multiple wish lists for people who would like to donate supplies. Our Wish List consists mainly of pet food, which we will bring to K9s, pets, and shelters. Our Amazon Wish List is mainly composed of items people need now. From toothbrushes to snacks to solar powered flashlights, countless people have lost all of their belongings. Imagine only owning what you had in your pockets when the flash floods hit. They need it all.

Just as important as the goods are the Visa Gift Cards. We will use these cards to buy gallons and bottles of WATER and GAS for vehicles and generators being used by shelters and police departments. We also need gas money for the officers who are using their personal vehicles to transport and distribute all of the donations.

Every single donation helps, no matter what! We would love it if you guys could share this information and links with your friends and communities as well.

The heat was no match for us last week in Tallahassee! We joined up again with K9s United for a 2 day K9 medical seminar, where handlers and EMS learned critical K9 trauma field skills, as well as how manage heat injury, GDV/bloat, and more. They also practiced body handling and bandaging on live K9s and trauma skills on our North American Rescue K9 manikin!
We had a great time working with Florida's best, and were happy to have veterinarian Dr. Andrew Ciccolini and SAR handler Athena Haus assist us with instruction!
As always, we're grateful to K9s United for their continued support and dedication to working K9s across the nation.

We're headed to PA next month for a seminar with K9 Kop and then we'll be on hiatus until October as Head Instructor/Owner Brady Smith prepares for a special arrival in August 👶

Let's talk about giving back.

From our start in 2020, we've been committed to the survival and health of all K9s- whether they're working, sporting, or simply enjoying the pet life. We know that first aid and medical field skills are a critical piece in K9 management, and while we always hope that every handler/owner never has to use them, we also know that they're absolutely needed for when that unexpected event occurs. This is why we do what we do - traveling around the country and the world to teach K9 first aid and field trauma skills, as well as providing medical kits stocked with all of the things you need (and nothing that you don't).

Since 2020, we've donated a portion of our profits to organizations we believe are putting in the real work and doing their very best to help law enforcement and others keep their K9s safe.
This past year, we donated a total of 8% of our profits to three great organizations:

👉April is Prevent Lyme Disease in Dogs month!

👉Just like in humans, Lyme Disease prevention in dogs is critical. Ticks that carry Lyme are typically found in wooded areas, tall grasses, thick brush, and marshes. Lyme disease is transmitted once the tick has been attached to your dog for 24-48hrs.
Serious complications include kidney failure, cardiac complications and neurological complications.

👉Watch for these symptoms:
-Fever
-Appetite loss
-Low energy
-Lameness
-Generalized discomfort/pain/stiffness
-Joint swelling

👉Treatment:
-Antibiotics, veterinary care

👉Prevention (most important!)
-Inspect your dog daily, especially after exposure to high-risk environments.
-Remove ticks immediately. A good pair of fine tweezers is helpful for this. A good explanation of removal process: https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/health/how-to-remove-tick-from-dog/
-Ask your vet to conduct tick checks at exams - helpful in case you might have missed one.
-Talk to your vet about tick prevention options.

The K9s United Training Team will be in Hillsboro, Oregon June 10th-13th!

This seminar will start off with with a day of learning K9 Emergency Medicine, presented by Dustoff K9 followed by three days of advanced LE K9 training. The team will be covering all aspects of training related to K9 deployments in the Law Enforcement profession. They will also be incorporating the knowledge learned during the K9 medicine portion in scenario based training throughout the week!

Thanks to our amazing sponsor Setina Manufacturing, each LE handler will be provided a K9 medical kit so they are prepared to put into practice what they have learned during the event.

Lunch will be provided each day, dinner provided on Wednesday night, with some great giveaway items.

We had a great time teaching in Miami and Palm Beach with K9s United last week! As always, we're grateful to work with such an awesome organization and love working with Florida's best.

Shoutout to retired MPC K9 Karlos on this K9 Veteran's Day! Karlos wasn't originally supposed to be my working dog but everything happens for a reason. Two weeks into a four month training course, my original working dog just wasn't cutting it. I didn't want to miss any training so I grabbed a Friday evening flight from North Carolina to Colorado, dropped that dog off, grabbed Karlos, and flew back to North Carolina for the course. We couldn't fly him as cargo so he had to ride in the cabin with me. New handler and crazy/spastic working dog with no obedience was a fun experience going through the Dallas airport but he did great! He is retired now and lives at home with my family and he fits right in. He has taught me so much and is now helping teach other people! Karlos generally travels with me to teach K9 medical courses but flying lately has been hard with all of the equipment so he is staying at home. I sure do miss him!

After a couple of years of heavy service, our manikin was ready for refurbishment!

We're honored to have spent the past week with K9s United in Florida working to get necessary training and information out to K9 handlers and others. Our passion is teaching handlers and those associated with K9 care the knowledge and skills needed to enhance pre-vet survivability in their K9s. Those minutes before veterinary hand-off are crucial, and oftentimes it comes down to what was done (or not done) during that window. We're grateful to K9s United for their support and dedication to this important issue!
