Coming along. Theres a little bit of everything in this pic. A couple of HB dogs. A couple of gundogs. A few puppies. All doing well. They love to run.

Roading puppies is fun for me. I like teaching them things and if puppies are started the correct way you'll have a good one for a long time. First and foremost this is not for conditioning these young pups. Just teaching them that running in front of the machine is ok and that they just need to keep going. They did well for their first time.

As I continue to move away from gundogs I'm going to thin down my excess training stuff. First to go will be my dog trailer.

This is a well built unit that pulls good and is very sturdy. I used it to pull behind my ATV when roading dogs mainly. It never has been further than a few miles from my house since I've owned it.

The box is 5' long front to back and 6' across. That makes each of the holes 20" wide by 3' deep. This trailer will easily ride 12 dogs comfortably. It has near new tires and the bearings were redone in the last couple of months. This is a good trailer that's road ready. Could use a couple of butterfly vents but other than that it needs nothing. $4000 obo. It's in SE KS.

I go to trials all the time and I go to meetings here and there and the #1 topic everywhere without fail is how to attract new people to trials. Every conversation hinges around that subject. Its always entertaining to hear people's theories on why new people won't join up or why younger guys wont come out and give it a try.

I look at the KFTCA schedule of trials this year and one thing really jumps off the page for me. Most of these "weekend" trials now have a Thursday start date. I don't know if anyone really thinks this through at all or if as a group we really dont care about participation.

We love to talk about participation but folks lets be honest with one another we dont really care about that. Lets stop pretending. This sport is expensive as it is and now we're asking younger family oriented guys to take two days off work to attend a weekend stake just to run a dog. In reality a working guy with a family only has so much vacation every year. There probably isnt a scenario where a guy can take off two days for every "weekend" trial that starts on Thursday. What we've collectively done as a group is made the sport a sport for the wealthy or the retired. And if we do get a new young guy in hes quickly going to realize that unless he intends to burn all his vacation then he really doesnt have a chance at a DOY run And if you look around on a Thursday at a typical trial what do you not have...... not very many working class young guys looking to get in.

I dont know what the solution is but I know "weekend" trials being run during the week is a problem. We wonder why we see the same 10 people everywhere we go. There are guys that want to go trials out there but they simply chose to use vacation elsewhere. Cant say that I blame them.

Andy told me that we need to start getting the trailer ready for the upcoming trial season. So I decided that meant that now was the perfect time to give the living quarters a face lift.

This weekend I redid the flooring in the living quarters. Now the cabinets don't match the floor so, those will get at fresh new look too.

Andy isn't thrill that now is when I decide to tackle this project after I had all summer to do it. He also informed me that I have until October 1st to get this project accomplished.

How do you prepare for field trial season?

Cleaning out the shed and I've got a bunch of stainless steel feed buckets and water buckets and some other miscellaneous buckets and some stuff that I want to get rid of for cheap if you need some I want to sell the whole lot together for 50 bucks if you want to come get it.

I think there's a set of dog boots in there numerous buckets numerous feed pans some big horse buckets and I bet I can find some more stuff before you get here. Let me know.

I won't hold any of it so if you speak for it you need to come get it quickly.

Can't tell you what she'll be when it all shakes out. Not a bad price to find out though.

Hope everyone is staying in front of this heat.

We've been working dogs in short intervals throughout the day. It's going as well as can be expected. It's tough to run them when it's 80° at 5 AM but there certainly are other things we can and are doing.

Dog training has always been something we've done for fun here, never have tried to make a living at it. We both work full time jobs and have a more than full time family. Yet we still manage to work dogs a ton here for people of all walks of life. It's something we've thoroughly enjoyed over the years.

We've met some really good folks along the way and some, quite frankly, that aren't worth a s**t but that's life. The good definitely out weighs the bad that's for sure.

What's the point you ask. Well all good things must come to an end and at the end of 2022 we will no longer offer gundog training to the public. We will instead turn our focus to our own field trial string and it's development.

Eventually I will apply for my AMT status back and we will go at it as Amateurs and see how it goes. It's been really fun breaking dogs for people but it's a must for us to make this transition to field trial dog development. After all that's the entire point of Tegridy Kennels as an entity is to develop and trial class shooting dogs.

There's still time if you need something worked in the short term we have a couple of slots open. But time is getting short and this year end will be here before you know it.

We'd like to wish everyone a safe and successful trial season. We'd also like to thank everyone that has chosen us to trust with your dog. We're grateful for everyone that has sent a dog to us. We've always strived to uphold and lived by the idea that the only thing we can control is how much we worked. Hopefully that serves us well moving forward.

Hopefully we'll see you all soon. Get em ready this heat wont last.

One of the advantages of working gundogs instead of trial dogs for people is that we dont have to worry about conflicts that can arise when you develop your own trial dogs.

We acquired this young gal from World Class Birddogs this week. Pretty young girl out of Miller's Justifiable and a nice Ransom female. Pretty happy with this pup so far.

Keesha.

We have a pretty nice gelding for sale. Hes a 10 year old bay and white walking horse. Hes right at 17 hands and is a nice going horse. I work off him quite a bit and hes a good trial horse. You can really do anything off him you want. Ive handled off him and scouted with him. Ive judged walking stakes with him and ridden him at all age trials. He's a good horse that most anyone can ride. Andre is in SE KS. Message or call for more info.

This sure was a fun way to round out field trial season!

The SCKBDC hosted its Youth and Gun Dog Stakes this past weekend and enough cannot be said about the outpouring of support we received from those in the field trial community. To say it was a success would be a huge understatement. As the old adage goes if you build it, they will come! We would like to personally thank all those involved and in attendance who made this event such a success: Mr. Bob Lais, Justin Crook, The Wichita Bird Dog Club, Chuck Maxson, Andy Neria and Rhonda Shepherd, Frank Schoenborn, and Bud Moore just to name a few. While most of these individuals didn’t run a dog, they were there to show support to the youth and new field trialers getting into this sport and made themselves available to help out and answer any questions that anyone may have. It really does take a village as they say. And without this field trial community and family, we would not be able to have success in recruiting and retaining field trialers, in this game we love to play. Thank you again to our Judges Jason Patty and Bob Brown, and our Field Trial Marshall, Dog Wagon Driver, and Bird Planter Mr. Chuck Kenney. Thank you to our sponsors; Skyview Wagyu, Purina, Gun Dog Supply, Mule Brand Clothing, Kenney Setters, and Tegridy Kennels. There were a lot of pictures taken this weekend so if you have some you would like us to publish online once we post our album of this Field Trial, please send them to us in messenger. Please be on the lookout for the official write-up that will be published in the American Field.
Thanks again, and congratulations to these outstanding participants and winners!

Finally after a bad weather week the day was good enough for a few pics. Dont get me wrong I still work in the bad weather but it isnt conducive for much picture taking. Today was so I took advantage of it.

Just working puppies today and this is a good batch. The black and white female, the liver and white male and the liver and white female belong to Flint Ridge Kennels and are available last I knew.

The male has a good chance at being a nice walking shooting dog and his sisters will make nice foot hunting gundogs. All of these have been started right and are all on their way to being whatever you want them to be.

If you have any interest in these I'd encourage you to contact Paul Ott at Flint Ridge Kennels for more info. These are three nice ones.

The orange headed pup is just Backyard Lucy and no one wants her but us....

The male dog is the first one pictured the black and white is a female and the other liver and white with the least amount of liver on her head is also a female.

Want to say a quick congratulations to Paul and Rae Ott of Flint Ridge Kennels and their dog Buster for winning the Kansas All Age Puppy Classic over the weekend.

Buster is an exciting young dog that ran a really good half hour in terrible conditions on Sunday to win the classic.

Paul also handled his first year shooting dog Flint Ridge Oakley to a well deserved 3rd in the open shooting dog stake.

Thinking about dipping your toes into field trial? Here is your chance to test the waters with a great group of people who put on a top notch trial! Bring the kids and let them have some fun too!

The SCKBDC is excited to announce its upcoming field trial on April 2nd!! This trial will be specifically geared towards youth and novice field trialers of pointing breeds! Have you ever wanted to experience field trialing or get youth involved in the sport!! We will be hosting a NBHA sanctioned field trial with those individuals in mind! We will be running specific stakes geared towards the hunter or bird dog enthusiast who wants to get into field trialing. This will be a low-pressure environment for all entrants, and will feature a youth stake to allow fellow trialers around the same age and experience level to be braced with one another. There will also be an NBHA Q&A session to follow the stakes, and as time allows we will include a demonstration of the various stake performance standards. If you wish to attend and observe that is ok too! We are excited to announce that KFTCA HOF member Mr. Bob Lais will be in attendance, as well as other NBHA and KFTCA dogs and handlers to help answer any questions you may have about the sport. This will be a one-day event only, so make sure you secure your spot in the trial before it fills up. For entry information please see the attached Advertisement, and please feel free to contact us for any questions you may have. Please note, all dogs should be gun conditioned to enter these events. Thank you once again to our Sponsors: Skyview Setters, Skyview Wagu, Purina, the NBHA and the KFTCA for making this event possible! Please feel free to like and share this post!! Good luck to Eddie Taylor and Rhonda Shepherd as Eddie handles Rhonda's derby Joe Exotic in the Midwestern States Shooting Dog Futurity.

The futurity is set to start next Friday afternoon barring any schedule changes. Joe has been drawn in the first brace.

Joe is an exciting young Derby that a lot of people don't know that Rhonda has. She acquired Joe from Jeremy Gullick at world Class Birddogs as a young dog. He is by Whippoorwill Justified and a nice Miller's Happy Jack bitch. He was bred by Charlie Gullick of Miller Missouri. Hes on the right in the pic. Really nice up and coming shooting dog.

They'll be well started and exposed to just about everything you can imagine when they leave our place. If you're looking for one to carry into next year there will be something here for you I imagine.

Yesterday was a wonderful day to work dogs on the prairies in Kansas.

I just turned loose two wild puppies and was headed to close the gate and turned around and this picture just kind of struck me. The windmills on the grounds are new. The pushback on them is tremendous in this part of the country, but to be quite honest when I'm riding and running dogs I don't even notice them. And they aren't even the point of the picture.

The horse is the point of the picture.

A career field trial horse. This is her 13th season. A true blue dog horse in every sense of the word. And the look on her face tells me as it has many many times before that I need to hurry my ass up because our puppies are getting away. But she won't take a step without me. So she stands and waits impatiently for me to close the gate behind me.

This horse has been all over the country with us. She's followed every breed and every class of dog on the planet it seems. Judged every kind of trial in every kind of weather and NEVER waivered from her job. Babysat friends at trials. Made people realize just how enjoyable watching a dog from a horse can be. Babysat our boys and taught them how to ride. Taught Rhonda what a gaited horse is and what it should be.

Smooth lick. Best horse I've ever seen in the rocks. Go anywhere anytime (although she didn't start out that way). And yet as I sat on her yesterday watching two setters put on a show in front of me I couldn't help but be a little sad. At 17 years old its an inevitability that her time with us will end and we'll send her off into retirement somewhere. A retirement she will have earned 10 times over. And I'll begin the impossible task of trying to find the next Tater......

But in the meantime I just appreciate her for what she is and dont worry about what she isn't. The boys will tell tales of ole Tater someday. Taters job of teacher isnt quite over yet though......... she has one last assignment.

Be watching for this!
