Biscuit set herself a puzzle. I was relieved when she solved it.
Walking with Lyra – on halter
figure 8 – one touch
Come Name - yard
Sit – verbal
Down – distraction - movement
Fold-back Down – hand signal
Stand – struggling with stillness
Heel position – chin rest
Foot target disc – rear foot movement
Cone – 1.5m
Stick – short carry
Three way sit,
Walk to park = a few steps at a time on the way out, a few metres on the way back. Still wants to run the last 100m,
Home: Down – on verbal and on mat
Fold-back Down – ‘Drop’ – a couple with handsignal
Down target mat – good till I sat in a chair, took 3 reps to hold it.
Stand – hand touch and on platform
Foot target disk = 360 in each direction balancing me, a couple of sits and jumps
Cone – half a metre
Stick – shaping a retrieve – nose touch
Kong- in container – 1 second duration but not consistent
Biscuit is learning to ring a bell. (You need sound on.) I plan for it to be a signal that she needs to go out to toilet. I planned that she would use her foot but she preferred her nose, the down was her choice also - it will drop out over time.
Beach : Come Name – with Jamie c50m, nearly knocked me over
Home: Stand on foot target, on platform – the nose touch on the bell has introduced a head bob
Sit – with Lyra and Petal distance 2 steps
Heel position – swinging rear out but getting better
Middle – loves it
Foot target = with movement to my right, kept offering a sit but extinguishing
Cone – the bell has caused a nose touch – trying to reward first
Bath and brush
Cave bed play.
Ashmore Park top: Show lead and stacking – very distracted, Walking with Lyra – nearly to bin, needed a few sits, High touch on the move – great, Jump for food – working on cue – Get it
Home – Down on verbal – 3 from sit, not from stand
Stand – on platform, on floor with hand touch
Heel position – reward in place
Middle – introduce cue
Foot target – heavy R+
Kong- in yogurt container – in progress
Restraint – good with neck and front leg, not with hind leg
Drier – on body gently -
Biscuit's first swim at Benowa Botanic Gardens. Thanks to Jamie for the video.
Parasol Park: Show lead – focussed and animated – maybe helped by lamb heart? Stacking, Come name. Sit with duration – walk around, 5 steps, Walking with Lyra – good until a dog about a block away disturbed Lyra, kong – good once she picked up the scent but I gave the wrong cue
Home: Heel position – still needs lure for turn on the rear, found position from front, Middle – improving, offered it once. down – one rep without hand signal
Biscuit's first double take. I still need to improve my video skills ...
Ashmore Park: Show lead – bigger circle. stacking – fidgety on uneven ground, walking with Lyra – extended distance, come name – from food, sit, down – couple of downs on verbal, one anticipated, kong – responded to cue, double take when she smelt the kong
Beach: great recalls between us, one was about 3o metres.
Bath in main room (not happy – slippery?) and brushing -
Just as well Lyra looks after my cushion. I love the funny playing noise she makes.
Sports field - Show lead – small circle, R+ at end. Stacking – wanting to sit, Come 10m
Sit distance – 5 steps
Down distance – 4 steps
Heel position – forehand turn good, rear turn with lure
Ball – pick up, carry, give - will retry if I don't get the ball.
Kong- climbing, moving around obstacle to indicate. Needs quick R+ to prevent pickup.
Brushing - kept sitting
Clippers – haven’t practiced recently, not happy
Now we have chair games :)
Scent games – in corners, one above nose height, needed some sneaky help with one corner
Platform – sit, stand, down, IYC
Ball – not as good as yesterday but I got the ball once
Biscuit really likes scent games. Next time we'll do it round the edges of the room.
Show lead - we went to Girral Park – too many good smells. Tried the toy – food’s better
Stacking - was good every time
Brushing - less settled with the new brush
Hair drier - I held her against my legs, she wasn't happy but continued eating.
Scent games boxes – in box, on box - too easy. Around the edges of the room next time.
Sit - multiple sits on lead with Lyra and later on her platform.
Stand - from a sit on the platform, with lure and touch. Feet came off a couple of times.
Platform- leaning toward food with feet on platform, needs more work.
Ball - teeth on but no pick up.
IYC - 2 pieces on thr floor, fine. Tried with platform – needs more work.
We have a retrieve. Biscuit happily gives the toy to me and we have a game of tug.
Walk on harness to the park on Cotlew St
Bathing much happier
Play Group was cancelled because of hot weather :)
retrieve short and informal
handling – feet, mouth, ears in the yard
fold back down she's happier with my hand on her snout
pocket hand heeling 2 reps without a lure
Nose touch she's started using using her teeth
luring she stays in place, oops
There's no stopping this girl. This is Lyra's toy and it's bigger than Biscuit.
But we're disappointed. Our first puppy school was tonight and it was cancelled because of rain.
And I know for sure that Biscuit understands the standing still exercise. Our second Touch exercise and I put my hand far enough away that she needed to take a step. She tried to touch my hand by leaning forward and keeping her feet still. So now she needs to learn that a different shape of my hand is a different cue. I expect her stand will deteriorate for a while now but that's ok and it will end up stronger for it.
Needless to say, the stand went well today. I did it first.
Good for brushing.
Good for clippers - I pretended to do her face and neck with the guard on (and treats). She wasn't bothered.
I overdid it with the blower and frightened her but she recovered and we did manage to still get closer than before.
Not a lot of formal training over Christmas but plenty of learning. Here is Biscuit trying to get Isla to play at Colette's place. That's Isla's happy face - we were all surprised to see that.
