Swallows [1] (lat. Hirundinidae) is a species-rich family of passerines. Swallows are characterized by the ability to get food in the air, they are able to catch insects on the fly. Swallows have a slender, streamlined body build and long, narrow wings. The beak is short and opens quite wide. The legs are quite small, most species have long tails. Swallows are migratory birds.
