All too often we talk to people who think that they need to buy a cage or a condo as an enclosure. False! Pet stores suggest them because there is a big mark up and that's how they make money.

Cages and condos are bad because:
❌️ Too small
❌️ Expensive ($90-$300+)
❌️ Too much work to clean. Get gross fast!
❌️ Causes reclusive or aggressive behavior

Choose a pen (at a minimum) or fully free roam:
✅️ Space to stay active and healthy
✅️ Low cost (pound $34)
✅️ Easy cleaning
✅️ Keep buns interactive and social

Whew. It's been a weeeeek. 😓

Teddy and Slater both needed urgent, multiple vet visits.

Slater has been recovering from elevated liver levels for about 2 weeks and we're continuing to monitor. We worried it was liver lobe torsion which is often mistaken for GI stasis (which is a symptom not a cause) and is often fatal. Thankfully, he's starting to feel better.

Teddy, or big bun appears to have a pinched nerve and is having mobility issues related to pain. He's not wanting to eat and is on a few meds to help him. 😓

Oatmeal, our disabled bun is doing great though. He saw Dr. Doswell this morning for a check up along with Sparky who is being treated for EC. Poor Sparky has a severe head tilt but is still full of spirit! He adores his foster mom, Lisa and loves running around for treats. We're going to try laser therapy to help with his head tilt.

These buns all have sad stories about how they came to us but they are getting so much love and are spoiled by their incredible fosters. 💙

Vet visits this week were over $640. We're going to be posting an auction soon but if you'd like to help with our wishlist, we need a 25lb bag of oxbow pellets for the bunny house 🙏

✨️2 separate girls looking for homes! Angora and a lop! ✨️

🩷 Güzell - a super fluffy white Angora found by a good Samaritan. She's shy but starting to warm up to her foster. We're looking to see if anyone is missing her. It looks like she was housed outside. Likely not spayed. If no one claims her in a few days, she going to need a forever home with someone who can keep up with trimming her fur to prevent matting.

🩷 URGENT Thumper - a tan lop girl, is almost 6 years old and fixed. Her family is moving and saddly can't take her. They said: She's sweet. She kisses and cuddles. She gets along with animals. Literally trained as long as it clean. She will eat right out of your hand. She's going to Bunny Boss on Saturday unless she finds a home! Currently located in Satellite Beach.

You have to see these fluffs! They are so stinkin cute!!! 😍😍

All of our rescue partners are overloaded right now and we're helping our friend Della at Cox Farm on Carolwood to try to place some of the buns🐰 and guinea pigs🐹, as they're stacked up. Fosters and adopters are needed! ‼️

🐰 There are 3 tan girls who are very friendly and playful. They are spayed. There are 3 black New Zealand boys who will be fixed soon but are very sweet and do great being held! They are very easy going and would be great for families or first time bun people.

🐹 There are 2 single guinea pig boys, as well as a pair of older boys. There are also 6 girls. (They are separated by gender.)

Can you help get someone out of a cage and into a home with more space and attention?

VOTE NO ON STATE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT 2‼🐻

Florida Constitutional Amendment 2 proposes adding a constitutional right to hunt and fish in Florida and designates hunting and fishing as the preferred method for "responsibly managing and controlling fish and wildlife," preserving this right indefinitely. However, Florida's existing statutes already protect the right to hunt and fish, making this amendment redundant.

The amendment's ambiguous language is concerning. It fails to define the scope of practices it would protect. This lack of clarity opens the door to inhumane and ecologically harmful methods of "traditional hunting," such as gill nets and steel-jawed traps, which have been previously banned for their cruel and destructive impacts on wildlife and ecosystems.

Additionally, by prioritizing hunting as the preferred means of wildlife management, the amendment undermines science-based conservation and non-lethal methods in managing wildlife populations and wildlife-human conflicts. Effective wildlife management prioritizes non-lethal solutions over killing. The amendment's narrow focus on hunting threatens these well-established, ethical approaches to conservation.

Read the Guardian's latest article on Amendment 2. You may recognize the name Lane Stephens in the article. He is one of the lobbyists who pushed to get HB 87 - Taking of Bears passed. It's no surprise that he is now pushing for Amendment 2, an amendment that makes hunting the preferred method for managing fish and wildlife, sidelining proven non-lethal solutions, like bear-resistant trashcans, and other humane methods used to peacefully coexist with wildlife.

Sunday brunch at the bunny house 🥬🥗🏠 (volume up 😄) Time to find them some homes!!

The 10 spice girls are all recovered from their spays and ready for forever homes! They are very friendly and inquisitive and come up for treats and greens. A few are starting to let me pet them but they're still a little hesitant. I think they'll come around as they get more socialized. For this reason, they would do better in a calm home and would prefer adopters aged 12+. Since they are shyer buns, we would like them to be adopted in pairs so they feel more secure with a friend.

We do a BOGO bunnies adoption special for pairs: $100 🎈🎈

Spike and Slater are waiting for a great home! They've been bounced around so much the past 2 years. They came back to us after being adopted and now need to be out of their foster. These wonderful boys are ready for their forever home! 💙💙

Spike was previously mistreated by small kids and was taken in to save him from that. Slater was abandoned in a small cage alongside another bun and left on a curb.😭 They are so grateful to be living the proper bunny life now!

Spike enjoys being brushed and needs regular upkeep so he doesn't get matted. Slater is a little more reserved but also sweet. He's just getting over a scare with his liver values being elevated but he's doing great now! He's getting supplements to continue the improvement.

They are a great pair who love their free roam time and do well with older kids. They're both neutered and a couple years old. They're currently fostered in Merritt Island.

It's better to get a pair of buns so you don't have to worry if a bun is lonely when you're busy. Bunnies are happier with a friend and it's double the fun 😁

Boots & Socks are spending their THIRD Halloween with us!! 🖤🎃🤯 Best family bun pair!!

These adorable, silly boys were rescued in July 2022. Black bunnies are so underrated!! They are so loving and easy going. Boots and Socks love being part of the family and have done well with kids. They are neutered and uses their litterbox.

Note: The boys only had costumes on long enough to snap a pic. Bunnies shouldn't wear costumes. But they were not stressed putting on a cape for minute to help them to find a home. They are good sports. 🙂

5 year old male, white lop needs immediate placement. Owner is in jail. Located in cocoa. Assuming not fixed. This poor bun needs to get out of that tiny cage. This is not appropriate housing. Message if you can help!

Our darling shy boy Ernie is looking for a friend to bond with! He has been waiting 2 years for a home. 🖤🤍

Ernie was born in the rescue and has had great care. He is neutered and uses his litterbox. He has been to adoption events and has seen his foster siblings come and go. It's his turn! He would love to have a mellow home and lots of love!

Our shy little spice girl, Basil 🌿 sounded congested, so she had a visit to Island Animal Hospital at Viera and got started on an antibiotic. She's already sounding better!

Sending a huge thank you to all of the helpers who can been keeping the bunny house going this week!!! Sherri, Dennis, Courtney, both Nancies, Kelsey and Bradley, Katie and Jason, Niki, Jessica, and Julia have been doing a lot of work to keep things going while I'm away. 😊💗😊💗😊💗

The great thing about adopting through a rescue is that we get buns treated for any issues and fixed, so you're saving a life with the hard part already taken care of.

Basil is timid but inquisitive and bounces around with her bunny family of 10. She is spayed and once she's recovered, will be ready for a great home! These girls came from a bad place and are learning to trust people but are starting to come around if greens and treats are involved 😂. We would like them to be adopted in pairs so they are less stressed.
