Week 7 Pupdate ❤️

The puppies are now lovingly referred to as the “Chaos Goblins”. They are all trouble, all the time, and they are absolutely hilarious! Who needs TV when you have 7 week old puppies? And even if you did turn the TV on, you wouldn’t have time to watch it between cleaning up the floor, pulling something out of a puppies mouth and breaking up all of the puppy brawls. They are MEAN!

I’m enjoying getting some sleep, but don’t love waking up to Poopapalooza every morning. Thank goodness for summer puppies and being able to leave the windows open 🙊

They are mostly on kibble now with just a breakfast top up and a bedtime snack from Mom. They are well fed, chunky little monsters.

We’ve been enjoying some outside time this week when the deck isn’t right in the hot sun. Some of the puppies are starting to be able to do the stairs on their own, so we’ll be able to start getting outside quickly for pottying more in the next week or so (Thank Goodness!)

There’s this weird phenomenon with Cavaliers that they often sort themselves by color. I’m unsure of how they know, or why but I’ve seen it consistently in every litter, and other breeders will testify the same. Not all the time obviously, but pretty often, and more so as they get older. This is what nap time looked like this morning 😍(There’s 2 more Rubies asleep in the crate that missed the memo!)

I’m so proud of Lesley and Roxy earning her first title, the Canine Good Neighbour this weekend!

I encourage all of my Castleglen families to get out and do stuff like this with your dogs. Any CKC registered dog is eligible to participate in these events, and there is so many different dog sports. GGN, Scent work, barn hunt, sprinters, trick dog, rally, agility and so much more! If you ever want to do something, but dont know how to get started, ask me!

Week 6 Pupdate ❤️

The puppies have become real dogs this week! They are eating soaked kibble a few times a day, spending lots of time out of the pen and in the living room, and being the cutest little wrecking balls you’ve ever seen. Nothing is safe, and my mop is getting more attention than its had since around this time last year!

They are going all the way through the night now without eating, but just because they don’t eat, doesn’t mean they are sleeping all night! They wake up usually in the night, play, p**p, make a mess and wake us all up. I’m hoping that I get at least a few nights of sleep before we start crate training 🤞

They are out of the bedroom now entirely and I’ve finally packed up the newborn baby gear (incubator, oxygen concentrator, whelping boxes etc). Happy to have my bedroom back for about a week before I have 10 little crates lined up and they move back in and take over again.

They are just the sweetest little beasties, and I love watching each of them developing their own personalities. Both litters have very consistent temperaments within their litter. So far everybody is incredibly confident, playful and busy, but Dizzy’s crew is consistently “spicier” than Maja’s. If somebody is screaming it’s more often than not at the hands (teeth? paws?) of a Dizzy puppy. Maja’s puppies are far from innocent angels, but do seem to be a bit tamer than their darker counterparts 😈🖤🤍🤎.

Photos are getting harder, but if I catch them when they are sleeping, I can usually get them to sit still-ish for a second or 2. Here are the 6 week puppy photos for your viewing pleasure 😍

Week 5 Pupdate ❤️

This week has been so fun with the puppies really starting to look and act like really puppies. They love to beat the snot out of each other, drag the p*e pads around, and just generally cause a ruckus every waking moment. They play hard, bite hard, and sleep hard!

They are still sleeping in their whelping boxes over night but I’m sure that’s short lived as we had a jailbreak a few nights ago at 4 am. We are now at max height on the walls, but they are eager for freedom! I’ll probably move them full time to the kitchen in the next few days and expand their pen again.

They are eating soaked kibble twice a day now and took to real food like they were experts on the subject. They are constantly crusty and stinky and just ohhhh so sweet 🥰🥰 They love to climb up in my lap when I sit in the pen, and their little tails wag so hard when they see their humans ❤️. We are looking forward to getting to meet so many more humans over the few weeks!

Cuddle Puddle Photos for Attention!

I came across this wonderful article for anyone who is searching for a puppy. Unlike most articles that are telling you to ask for health testing records, see mom and pups, ensure proper socialization protocols etc (which you ABSOLUTELY should be doing), this article is about Puppy Buyer Etiquette and focuses more on setting realistic expectations for people buying puppies from responsible breeders.

Now for a mini-rant 😬
I have experienced a huge lack of common courtesy with this litter and out of SEVENTY FOUR people I had on my list when the puppies were born, I have only heard back from less than 15 and I shockingly still have a puppy available. I don’t mind if people want to wait, or have found a puppy elsewhere or whatever, but just let me know!! To be completely ignored by the huge majority is really frustrating, as I really do have better things to do. I take a list as a courtesy for people so I can contact them when I have puppies, however, some courtesy in return would be nice!

This is not just me, this is every breeder everywhere and shows the mentality around getting puppies is typically very impulsive. For those of you that have been waiting, or replied back to me, THANK YOU! You are the people we do this for ❤️

So if you are looking for a puppy from myself, or from anyone else, I would encourage you to read this and take note. Be patient, be honest, be respectful, be realistic… those qualities will serve you well in your puppy search and also in life 😉
