I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…

Breeding. Is. Hard.

About a month ago, we confirmed via ultrasound that Dizzy was pregnant with a small litter and we were ecstatic! She’s had 2 flawless pregnancies so far and makes *the* cutest puppies 😍 so we started planning for the upcoming arrivals. As the weeks went on, she wasn’t really growing, and I had my suspicions that something wasn’t right. Last Wednesday we confirmed that sadly, she lost the litter and there was “no one home!” on our puppy count X-ray. I’m so very sad, but nature doesn’t always follow the rules and heartbreak comes with the job title.

Fast forward to today, when things go from bad to worse. Diz has been restless the last few nights but not during the day and it’s nothing alarming considering all of the hormonal changes she’s been through. Today is Day 60 post ovulation, which is the day she has delivered puppies for both of her litters, so I sort of brushed it off as maybe a bit of pregnancy nesting type behaviour, just minus the actual puppies coming. However when I bent down to let her out of her crate to see what her deal was, the smell hit me. The smell of Pyometra 🤢. For anyone not familiar, Pyometra is an infection of the uterus and is life threatening if not treated quickly. So today instead of bringing home a container of sweet little babies to love, I’m bringing home Diz from emergency surgery, minus all of her baby making bits. 💔. While I’m devastated there will be no more Dizzy babies, I am incredibly grateful for the amazing team at Sidney Animal Hospital that our sweet girl is home with me. She is feeling pretty sorry for herself at the moment, but we are resting and tomorrow is a new day ❤️

My main character and little spitfire, Katniss, now Millie, is loving her life! Here’s an update from her mom.

Millie ✨
She is pure joy wrapped in silky ears and a mischievous smile . She’s gentle, sweet, and hilariously zoomie-prone—seriously, she’s got more laps in her than a race car. Her recall is incredible, her manners are top-tier, and she listens like she’s been trained by angels. Off-leash in safe spots, she stays close, checks in often, and makes you feel like the center of her universe.
She’s a world-class cuddler, endlessly patient, and absolutely devoted to her family. Big dogs? She adores them. Small dogs? Let’s just say she’s still deciding. But humans? She loves them fiercely—especially her people.
Millie’s also an adventure pup at heart. Whether it’s quadding through the woods or dipping her paws into the water (we’re still working on the swimming part), she’s always game to tag along. She rocks her doggles like a pro—whether she’s riding shotgun or catching the breeze out the car window. If Millie’s not stealing your heart, she’s probably stealing your sock. Or your hoodie. Or whatever piece of anything she’s decided is hers today.

Next up is another Dizzy baby. Nyx, formerly Louella, is getting up to all kinds of fun! Here’s what her mom has to say about her.

✨Nyx ✨
Nyx is an absolute whirlwind of chaos but she loves to learn new things. She LOVES humans of all sizes and has learned to be pretty neutral to dogs. She’s down to try any sport and has dabbled in rally obedience, barn hunt and sprinter so far! She loves hiking with (harassing) her big k9 sister, and learned very quickly to respect her feline sister 😉 She’s got a lot of drive, and is exactly what I asked for (once we get through the teenager stage)! It’s hard to imagine life before her already.

I’ve had lots of people asking about Kea after his broken leg. After 2 weeks in a cone and 5 weeks since his break, he’s been medically cleared to go back to normal activities. He’s sporting some hardware inside, so he’ll probably set off any metal detectors, but he’s feeling great and ready to return to back to being a puppy again!

Here’s an update from his Mom!

“Kea prances and wags wherever he goes. His favourite living creature is the cat (they often play bitey-face), he also loves his adults, and licking kids faces. He is a confident, happy puppy who only stopped wagging for one day after breaking his leg. He is relatively chill and sometimes independent. He turns into a streak of black lightning during evening zoomies. We call him 'Little Mermaid' when he wants to be where the people are (eg, when he should be eating). He likes to fall asleep with plush fabric in his mouth, and his favorite way to start/end the day is in a human's bed”

One of my favorite things is hearing about my puppies going on to live incredibly full lives and how much happiness they bring people! And another favorite thing is sharing puppies with the world, so it’s time for some updates! Today we’re starting with Glimmer (formerly Effie). Here’s an update from her family ❤️

“This Glimmer! Aka Chaos Gerkin aka Gimnar aka Glim Glam aka Stinky aka wiggle worm. Her favorite thing to do is to steal whatever her brother has and run away with it. She has recently learned how to jump onto the couch formerly known as Cedars safe place. It is now happily their shared napping space and snore stage. She is super smart, learns tricks and commands really quickly, is a great walker and an even better dandelion and leaf hunter. True to her chaotic nature she loves to run circles around you while on a walk regardless of the fact that the leash gets wrapped around you. To no one's surprise she loves meeting new people and dogs, and is always down to play. Her zoomies are supreme, she whips around like a torpedo of legs and fury. She has been a wonderful addition to the family. She is full of love and we just love this little ball of spice.”

We are so happy to have Glimmer (formally Effie) here for a girls slumber party this weekend. She’s been a perfect houseguest so far and Maysilee thinks she won the jackpot having her sister move in and play with her anytime she wants ❤️ We keep having to double take to figure out which Ruby is which!

🧡The Life of a Showgirl - Cavalier Edition🧡

I’m so pleased to introduce our new Champion (pending CKC approval) CH Mingchen Just By Chance “Keira”. 🥳

She had a few “practice” days at her first show, and once she figured it out, she was unstoppable! 🔥 From then on, she took WB everytime she stepped into the ring, often taking BOW as well, and earned her CH in just 2 weekends!
Exclusively handled with so much love and care by Team Driessen, mostly Jenn and Willow, I’m thrilled with how beautifully she was presented.

Thanks to Mount Cheam Canine Association for putting on such a nice show. The judges this weekend were outstanding and so kind. Thanks specifically to Dr. Carlos Flaquer, Mr Ronald Mahon, and Dr Luis Salas for recognizing my girl.

Congrats to Lesley and Roxy for her nice BOS win yesterday (but Keira made her work for it!) and congrats to all of the other exhibitors.

And of course thanks again to Louise Pearce for trusting me with her. Besides being beautiful, she took everything she encountered this weekend in stride, including a BIG Newf, who wanted to be her boyfriend 😂 she’s such a sweet little girl and makes friends everywhere she goes!

When Kea’s mom named him after a type of bird from New Zealand, she didn’t think he would actually try to fly! The little dude used some poor decision making, and over confidence and has ended up in a bit of a pickle 💔
This is a reminder of why I recommend Pet Insurance! This could have happened to anyone, and luckily Trupanion is footing most of the bill for this one. Please keep sweet little Kea in your thoughts as he awaits orthopedic surgery and then a super boring recovery ❤️‍🩹

✳️ Dizzy lives for stealing chewies from the other dogs, hoarding them, and then not letting the dogs within 6 feet of her 😂 but Maysilee is a SHARK right now and makes all the big girls cry, so it’s a toss up between the 2 of them.

•Pickiest eater?
✳️ Probably Keira, but like, only because everyone else would probably eat cardboard if I let them and she would actually think about it before she just put it in her belly.

•Who sleeps the most?
✳️ Maja, she’s a living, breathing sp*ed bump 95% of the time.

•Who is the loudest?
✳️ It’s a tie between Diz and Maja. Diz barks at the TV so probably more often, and Maja barks outside, less often but has a louder bark.

•Who is the most shy?
✳️ Maja is the slowest to warm up to strangers, but I wouldn’t say any of my dogs are “shy”

•Who has the most attitude?
✳️ Maysilee or Dizzy are both pretty sassy.

•Most dramatic?
✳️ Maysilee, she’s a bit of a Diva.

•Who is the most opinionated?
✳️ Probably Dizzy, she has feelings about most things.

✳️ Keira for sure, she loves EVERYONE and EVERYTHING.

✳️ Individually, nobody, but together they love to all spread out so I have no room.
