Happy to all our girls out there, but wishing a very special one to the newest mother around, Ellie! Ellie Mae was a member of the "Lucky 13 Litter" Maybelle had in 2022 and she just welcomed her first litter. Jed, a member of Sugar's first litter in March 2020, is the father of the litter. Both Ellie and Jed are well taken care of by one of the best families around, and we thank them for sharing all the litter updates with us!

And because today is for the girls - I've included some puppy pictures of Ellie Mae and her mom, Maybelle. Hope y'all enjoy!

😫 SAY IT AIN'T SO! 😫

We were waiting around to post because we kept thinking we'd have better news - but unfortunately, we don't. We had one litter planned for this winter with hopefully a second if things timed out right, but they did not. A false heat late last fall threw a wrench in our plans and it doesn't look like things will turn around in time for us to have another litter right now. 😓

We try to have litters in the wintertime because it's less stress on the dogs and puppies. It gets harder for us to provide relief for mamas and babies when the temps creep up, the humidity gets sticky, and every bug imaginable comes out to see what you're up to. That's why we'll continue to stick to cozy, wintertime litters. ❄️ But right now, that also means we won't have another litter for close to a year.

However, there is some good news - Sugar is a grandmother! 🎉 Sugar's daughter just welcomed a litter of labradoodle puppies that I'll link to on our page. If doodles are your thing, these come from a good home and we can absolutely vouch for their mother!

Thank you always for your support, and I'm very sorry to those that had reached out and were patiently waiting for a better update! You know what they say about best laid plans. But we're still grateful for all the dogs, grateful for all of you, and look forward to sharing more puppies with everyone in the future! ❤️

Today we are proud to announce a new side to Double Run Retrievers - Double Run Drinks! 🍻

Starting April 1st we will begin to list dog-submitted reviews of local and regional alcoholic beverages, starting with this one from puppy Marie Osmond:

"The new Cheerwine Ale is an absolute hit to me! The good boys and girls at NoDa Brewing and Cheerwine must have worked overtime to bring us this match made in doggy heaven. A non-offensive hoppy taste mixes pleasantly with a clear and robust Cheerwine flavor. I give it 11 out of 10 tennis balls!"

We'll admit it, we almost forgot! 😅 but with what's left of the day, we want to wish a very happy 3rd birthday to the very first Double Run Retrievers litter - the 2020 Sugar Babies!

We are so grateful for these pups and the awesome families that they went home with! And no offense to our other pups - cause they're cute too - but this was definitely the chunkiest litter we've ever had! Peep Scout and Jed in these pics from when they were 3.5 weeks old! 👀

After a big weekend of meeting new people and seeing old friends, we can gladly say that all of the Bunny Babies have joined their new families! 🥳

This was a litter of firsts - it was Bunny's first litter and our first all-silver litter! It was also the fastest a litter has ever been reserved and we are incredibly grateful for that.

We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who helped with these puppies - family who came to help with picture day and pickups, friends who helped get the word out, and of course, the new families for giving each puppy a great home! Without all of you, none of this would be possible.

And also, a very special thank you to my grandmother for sharing her birthday with 10 new friends and lending names to all of them. She's one of our biggest supporters and it was a treat to have her involved with this litter!

So thank you all again from Double Run Retrievers! And to all the new families, we can't wait to see your ! 🐾

Thought of making a new post to celebrate today but I think last year's still says it best - Happy y'all! ❤

This is one of the pictures you didn't see from the last litter, and not one you'll typically see on here. Why? Because it betrays all the magic that you see in puppy pictures! For every cute shot and playful pic, there's running, chasing, and constantly moving puppies around as they run towards or away from the camera.

The behind-the-scenes stuff is what never makes it on here. The late nights spent getting heat lamps just right for mama dogs. Giving puppy baths one after the other until you've exhausted your Spotify playlist. Impromptu trips to the feed store to get a single puppy shot because one puppy out of nine moved at the last second and missed their injection (true story!).

But even if this picture betrays all the movie magic, there's something bigger in it that you might be missing - there's a woman holding that puppy up. And in fields around the world, away from any camera, there's women holding up their households, running businesses, and leading workplaces and communities.

Double Run Retrievers is and always has been 100% woman owned and operated, and there are multiple women who helped make this dream a reality. So on this , we say thank you to them and every woman we've met along the way. We know we like to say thank you a lot on here, but today we'd like to say thank you to just the girls. Thank you for keeping the world running - one puppy picture at a time! 😉

Introducing the Bunny Babies! 🐰 Bunny did an incredible job with her first-ever litter and we're so tickled to finally introduce everybody!

If you saw our earlier post, you might remember me saying that these puppies share a birthday with my grandmother. To celebrate her and them, I asked if she'd help name the pups. She's a big music fan so she looked to her favorite artists for inspiration. And though I may be a little biased, I think she did great!

At this time all the puppies are spoken for, but we hope you still enjoy the musical stylings of the Bunny Babies!

We got a big weekend planned here! The rain has slowed us down today, but we're hoping to get all the pictures of the new litter done tomorrow when it's not quite as wet! Can't wait to share them with all of you! 🤗

But while we're waiting on the litter reveal, there is one thing I can share with y'all - these puppies were born on my grandmother's birthday! She turned 83 this year and is a huge music fan and a big dog lover, so I asked her if she could help us name the puppies on this litter. We went with her favorite musicians and I've got the list finalized. If you've never seen a puppy named Barry Gibb, you might in a few days! 😂

How about we make today a little brighter with this with Puff? One of the "Lucky 13" from Maybelle & Early's 2022 litter, Puff's family say he is doing great and keeps growing! At his last visit, he was around 7/8 months old and weighed in at a whopping 73 lbs! He was a big pup and we can't wait to see just how big he gets! Thank you to his family for sharing this with us!

If you sent in a and didn't see it posted while we were on our winter break, my apologies! Please resend it and we'll be happy to share it with everyone! We enjoy seeing them but from what I've been told, everyone else loves them even more!

Today's the day! 🎉 We are now accepting deposits for Bunny and Early's litter! If you want a puppy, here's what you need to know:

🔵 Only silver females still available!

🔵 Mother is a 60-70 lb silver lab, father is a 100+ lb silver lab

🔵 All pups will be up-to-date on shots/dewormer and have AKC papers

🔵 Puppies will be ready for pickup starting March 11

🔵 Deposits are required to hold a pup and are first-come, first-serve

Had to use some black & white to announce the arrival of a timeless classic - silver labs! Bunny's litter is here and both mom and pups are doing great! We'll start taking deposits this weekend and will post here to let you know when we're ready for them! 😉

As some of you may know, our main form of puppy transport is a wheelbarrow! From the puppy pen to the playpen and all stops in between, the pups learn the sight of the wheelbarrow and often jump right in! (Which is a lot different from when you've got to get them in the car for the vet or in the tub for a bath! 😅)

Ellie's new family said if that they get their wheelbarrow out for anything, she tries to jump right in! I guess old habits die hard and Ellie loved her first car more than we realized! 😂

Thank you to her family for this adorable they sent in while we were on hiatus, and a huge congrats to them on Ellie's new human playmate too!

Guess what? We back! 😎 And it looks like we'll have some puppies available soon!

We took some time off to just enjoy the dogs and spend time with friends and family. But we missed y'all too! Happy to report that Early, Sugar, Maybelle, and Bunny are all doing well, and that Bunny should welcome her very first litter in just a few weeks!

We're expecting a silver/yellow litter, and will post any litter-related updates here! Glad to be back and hope y'all have a great weekend! 😊

In our area, fall doesn't start without the Cleveland County Fair! We entered a few of our recent puppy pictures in the photography contest, and this one of Sugar's litter took home first place! 🏅 We're pleased as punch but also want to congratulate all the other winners - there was great competition this year!

For those that have been asking, we hope to have our next litter around the end of the year. And as to the color of the pups, we'll give you a hint - just like a black and white and photograph, there should be a few shades of gray! 😉

How about this from Alfalfa and Little Rascal, two brothers from Maybelle's last litter? Their owner says that they're learning quick and acting great (most of the time - they're still puppies, after all!). We can't think of a cuter duo and we thank their owner for sending in this wonderful - she said it only took a million tries to get this shot! 🤣
