🐾 Did you know that greyhounds have a different blood count to other dog breeds?

This is why it is so important to have a greyhound savvy vet. Most pet vets are surprisingly unaware and this has led to a lot of greyhounds being misdiagnosed and treated for illnesses they simply do not have!

It also means that if a greyhound ever needs a transfusion it is harder to find suitable blood as well helping other dogs with rare blood types.

If you have a greyhound or know somebody who does then blood donation is a great thing to consider. It can save a life and could save your dog's life if anything ever happens!

📣🐶 Greyhound is our breed of the month this August!

Do you know a fabulous Greyhound? We need your help to spread the word among Greyhound owners to let them know that their dogs could be lifesavers. These lovely dogs are more likely to have the rarer negative blood type, a blood type we really need more donors with due to it being in such high demand 🩸

We have a short list of breeds that we know are more likely to have this vital blood type and will be focusing on one each month to raise awareness. Any support you can give us is so much appreciated.

🐾 Did the morning round for these guys yesterday! Surprisingly, Betsy the cat was the hardest to photograph as she was loving her cuddles too much! Managed to get her mid-meow though 🤣

🐾Ted had his bath today! He fidgeted as usual but now it's all done for the next few months! (Unless he needs one sooner!)

I feel so sorry for them!

Taylor is so clingy and cuddly and doesn't understand that cuddling makes them hotter. At least the temperature is going to continue dropping now and they will be more comfortable.

My parents put a thermometer in the conservatory of their house in Chelmsford today and it came back with a reading of 120 (nearly 50°c) !! Crazy hot! 🥵🥵

Following on from my previous post, please do your own research and don't fall for everything you see on the internet! The below post is another one providing FALSE information.

Ice cubes and ice blocks are fine. However giving bowls of icy cold water IS dangerous.

By the time ice cubes and blocks are licked, melted and reach the stomach they are already warmed to a decent temperature and not dangerous whatsoever. However, if ice water is drunk and gulped it requires the body to heat it to body temperature which, in turn, can increase the risk of the dog overheating.

Mental stimulation is even more important when walks aren't an option!

I hope everyone's furbabies are ok in the heat! I know it is supposed to be getting hotter at the beginning of next week, it must be so hard for them.

I know I'm not going to be telling you anything you don't already know but here's a list of things you can do to help them cope!

🐾 Keep windows open but curtains closed

🐾 Use cool mats

🐾 Feed little and often (heat can make appetites decrease)

🐾 Cooling toys and games - frozen treats, paddling pools, sprinklers etc

🐾 Car journeys to a minimum

🐾 Fans, air con units etc. Try hanging a wet towel Infront of a normal fan to help cool the room!

🐾 Limit physical play time and concentrate on mental activities

🐾 Put ice blocks/frozen bottles in hutches

🐾 No walks unless very early or very late!

🐾 Fresh water available at all times

There will be things I've missed, if you have any hacks or tricks you use to keep them cool then share them in the comments!

Update for availability!

I am available Tuesday and Wednesday this week. This is mainly for sitting unless walks are early morning (before 9am) or evening (after 8.30pm) due to the hot weather 🥵

I never share photos of myself and this one is horrendous, but I had to screenshot this.
I was on an online course and throughout the entire 2 hours all 3 dogs were climbing all over me, sticking their bums in my face, trying to lick my face etc and then ended up with Taylor like this 🤣

Mouse and Willow were so well behaved yesterday as we tested them without their owners for an hour!
Willow spent most of her time sitting in her chair watching the world go by and patiently waiting for them to come home. Mouse was so relaxed! A big, big step! 🏆

Ted loves lounging around, upside down in this weather, but we keep him cool by using ice packs! These ones are old food cooler blocks which are filled with just water meaning there are no nasty chemicals if he rips the bag! I put it next to his favourite napping spot. He likes to have a patch in the bottom of his hutch where there is no sawdust as he likes to lay on the cooler plastic. He house is in the shade all day and he has his door propped open so the breeze gets to him. 🐾

🐾🌞I know you've probably all seen similar posts before and I know it gets repetitive, but if it helps just one dog then I'm happy to annoy you with it!

General rule is the bigger the dog the more dangerous the heat can be. Heat is yet another risk factor for overweight dogs in particular.

Water, shade etc, you know the drill. Please keep in mind that you should never use COLD water to cool your dog.

It's a lovely week so far and Friday is set to be a scorcher. Enjoy your time outside with your pets safely ☺️

Note: I will not be taking on any walking jobs this Friday, better safe than sorry!

🐾🐻 These 2 always make me laugh how they sleep with their heads under the doors. I always have to boop their noses when I walk down there!
Wasn't until I got home and looked at the photo again that I spotted the 3rd one at the end 😂
