An amazing ferret rescue SilverAngel's Ferret Rescue & Sanctuary had a surrender come in recently with a very large chordoma on his tail. He is getting surgery for it right away (tomorrow) to have the tail amputated.
Many ferret rescues right now have a huge influx of ferrets coming in, so the shelter funds are running low. So any help towards Kempers surgery is greatly appreciated!

‼️PSA - What to do if you think your ferret is experiencing a BLOOD GLUCOSE CRASH.‼️

To help bring your ferrets blood glucose up quickly during a low blood sugar crash
(hypoglycemia), the best thing to use is glucose gel, but other things you may
have on hand can work too like:
➡️ Karo syrup (preferably dark).
➡️ Maple syrup (make sure it does NOT contain any Xylitol as that is deadly to ferrets).
➡️ Honey (DON'T USE RAW HONEY as there have been reports of some ferrets getting botulism from it).
➡️ FerretVite/ Furo Vite gel (ferret vitamin supplement that contains high glycemic sugars).
➡️ if you do not have any of these products on hand you can mix a little table sugar with water to make a runny paste in a pinch.

➡️Next Rub it on the gums (try to get the top gums especially) using a q-tip or other applicator instead of your finger so you do not get bitten (if they clamp down while seizing your finger will be punctured/ crushed by their jaw strength and your finger may become stuck in their clamped teeth).
➡️This is a TEMPORARY fix only, and MUST be followed up with a high protein food (once they come around and are alert/ responsive enough to swallow on their own) to help prevent a rebound sugar crash that could be even more severe than the previous crash. (Ingestion of sugar causes the pancreas to secrete even
more insulin which can cause a sudden and severe drop in blood glucose).
➡️Then you GET TO THE VET ASAP and let the vet know they were given sugar
(and when). The sugar can raise the BG up enough to show it in normal levels
when the vet checks it.
***TIP - Feeding small amounts of high protein food every few hours can help keep the BG up until you can get to the vet. You can crush or blend up their normal food with hot water to make a soupie for them which is usually more enticing to them when they feel ill (low BG makes them nauseous). Feed the soupie warm (but not not hot). If they will not eat willingly dab some on your finger and dab it on their mouth to try and coax them.💟

Picture of my late girl Arya for attention.🐾🌈💞
