Thank you to everyone risking it all to take care of the rest of us! We appreciate you, as do all of these amazing pretend doctors and nurses!

Plus, 'Doogie Howser's Neil Patrick Harris, stars of 'Grey's Anatomy,' and more are paying tribute to healthcare workers in the current crisis.

I hope everyone is having a healthy and social distancing acceptable Easter!

Remember that holidays can be a dangerous time for pets, mostly because of humans not really paying as close attention to them when they’re exposed to new and unusual foods and plants, etc. but also because they can scurry out of the house with people coming and going (hopefully this won't be much of an issue this year with COVID quarantine rules in effect).

Please see the poster below for the TOP 5 Easter Poisons, and take care to keep anything potentially toxic away from your furry friends!

Visit https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control for more information about potentially toxic plants, foods, etc.

This is a reminder from your friendly veterinary criticalist: Your dogs and cats still need flea, tick, and heartworm preventative!! Please speak to your family veterinarian's office before you run out! COVID-19 is not an excuse to have a lapse in these medications.
These pests will be here regardless, and can cause serious illnesses in your otherwise healthy pets.

Check out the map from the American Heartworm society for the incidence rate of heartworm disease in your area. Heartworm disease is spread by Mosquitos (see graphic). Have you seen them out?!?! I have! In Texas, these are YEAR ROUND preventatives!!

Hello everyone! I am Dr. Claus. Please allow me to tell you a bit about myself.

I am a veterinary criticalist (equivalent to an intensivist in human medicine). I am board certified in emergency and critical care medicine, so I am both an ER doctor and an ICU doctor for dogs and cats.

My love for animals was evident when I was a young girl, growing up in Texas. My family was informed that I wanted to be "an animal doctor" when I was 6, which was probably obvious when I using my little doctor's kit on our family dog, Plato, instead of friends and sisters.

My passion for emergency medicine developed early in my 20+years in the field, when I worked for a veterinary clinic that housed an after-hours ER. I set a goal of becoming a specialist so that I could provide the best care possible for the most sick and injured patients.

I live in a Dallas suburb with my husband and our two dogs, Bug and Alby. I am currently licensed in 7 states, and love traveling new hospitals, and learning new things from other doctors and technicians that I might not have met otherwise. This has truly been the most exciting and rewarding year of my career!
