Using the "place" command to help Kodiak learn how to jump!
He arrived at training VERY uncoordinated and convinced that he could not get his own body up stairs or into the car. He would throw and absolute FIT, crying/barking/screaming his head off, if you tried to get him into the car.
After learning "place" on a variety of dog beds and cots, we leveled up and started using rocks! Now he jumps into the car without any issue and he no longer needs someone to lift his 90lb body for him!
Khan Pupdate 🐾
Khan update: we’ve had him for 3 weeks and he has come a LONG way!
I apologize for my camera angle 🤦🏻♀️ I was more focused on keeping the pup in the frame than myself.
📍He has gained 5lbs in 3 weeks, eats twice as much as the bag suggests, and somehow still has ribs showing!
📍Khan lost a canine tooth! Thank goodness, because those puppy teeth were brutal 😅
📍This feisty boy has figured out that it is not appropriate to put his teeth on people, guard his toys or treats, or jump on people. Polite behaviors pay way better than pushy behaviors.
📍He still eats most of his food from our hands or during training sessions, but we do feed dinner in a slow feed bowl. During dinner, we work on self-control, walking away from the bowl when asked, and being okay with hands near the bowl (he was not okay with this 3 weeks ago).
📍Khan has made LOTS of doggy friends and gets along great with any dog who tolerates his puppy-pestering 💕
📍He has his first vet appointment this week for boosters, rabies, Bordetella, deworming, and neuter evaluation.

Free Puppy Training Tips!
Shere Khan pupdate: we are just over 24 hours in and I already feel like I’ve missed out on recording so many crucial moments!
Here’s what we have worked on so far:
- No jumping
- 𝙉𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 mouthing/biting humans
- Learning his new name (still working on it)
- Crate training (he HATED it for the first hour but we finally found a kennel setup he is comfortable with)
- Potty training is going great!
- Khan does ⓃⓄⓉ eat from a bowl. He is hand fed all food for the day during training sessions!
- Basic obedience commands: Sit, Place, Down
- Self control: holding commands for short periods of time until released with “𝔹ℝ𝔼𝔸𝕂!”
- Encouraging and rewarding calmness (shown in the video) ⏬👇⬇️
This is a silent drill! Khan does know how to sit and lay down but, for this drill, it’s important that I DON’T prompt him. He loves food and was being very pushy to get to the food. Before this drill, he was jumping up constantly and even knocked a bowl or two out of my hands 🤦🏻♀️
Again, I am not communicating with him verbally here. I am waiting for him to show a calm behavior and then rewarding it! He figured it out immediately, so I made it harder by getting down on his level. You can see that he tried to dive into the bowl one single time before he figured out that calm behaviors worked better ✨
I started tossing treats away from me so that he could run back excitedly and try again! He consistently chose calm behaviors and consistently got paid with treats!
We are also running a similar drill while sitting down to eat dinner, watch tv, or doing computer work. Teaching calmness and neutrality is important for ALL puppies, but since he is a very energetic breed, we really want to emphasize this early on!

Not only is ‘place’ a great confidence-booster and stability-builder, it’s also the easiest way to get awesome pictures of your dog!
Sadie and her dad went through one of our lesson programs a few years ago, and she comes back for boarding often. When I first met her, she was absolutely wild. She was rescued as a young adult and probably hadn’t ever been taught anything or maybe had never lived in a home. Her dad literally couldn’t eat meals inside his own home because she would jump up (chin high, counter high, get onto the dining table, etc) and knock the food down to eat it 😳🤯
Her dad did tell me this, but I still wasn’t fully prepared for how wild she was going to be at their first lesson! Positive reinforcement treat training just was not doing the trick with this wild child. Thank goodness for the @ecollartechnologies Mini Educator because it was a game changer for this duo! Her human worked diligently, trained her often, followed the lesson plan, asked questions when needed, and stayed on top of her training long after the lessons were completed.
All of that hard work paid off big time! Sadie is now one of the easiest and most enjoyable dogs ever, which is why she’s welcome to come stay at Aunty’s house whenever she wants 💕
Also, look how stunning she is! I have a thing for rescue pitties 🥰
How do your dogs react to the delivery truck? If they don’t listen just because a distraction arrives, you have work to do!
Obedience commands are just the first step, real-world proofing is what makes a reliable, solid, trained dog 💕🐶
