We understand that Facebook forbids animal sales and this will not be a forum to sell our rats. This is for us promoting our Rattery and responsible breeding.
We are the DragonFyre Rattery and we have been breeding pet Fancy Rats for over 20 years as a hobby. We started out in Ontario in the Toronto area and moved to the island within the past 3 years for work. We have always practiced safe breeding practices and have a very rigorous criteria that must be met if we are to breed the Fancy Rat.
We only breed rats with colors and patterns that conform to the Fancy Rat Standards.
As a note,We NEVER breed for profit. The price we charge goes into the care of the animals. Responsible Fancy Rat breeding is extremely expensive and we do it because we love sharing how awesome Fancy Rats are as pets with other people! We have a couple color breeding projects such as Dumbo Merles that we are excited to be able to share with the public soon.
We want people to be aware of and understand the differences with acquiring a small animal from a big box store and local responsible breeders. All of the rats sold by big box stores are bred in rat mills. Think puppy mill but on a much larger inhumane scale. Big box stores cannot guarantee anything such as temperament and health. We breed rats on a very small scale because we don’t want to over flood the market and have animals that will not have a forever home. We guarantee health and temperament because we have been doing this for over 20 years and have cemented in healthy genetics and very friendly rats. Our rats on average live 3.5-4 years. We have one mama right now that we have stopped breeding a long time ago who is about to turn 5!
We stand by our Fancy Rats. All of the rats we breed are actually pedigreed and some of them have pedigrees up to 9 generations back. Our pet Fancy Rats come with a 6 month health guarantee covering genetic issues. Details of it are given and will be covered with our care sheets we provide with our pet rats.
We will also take in ANY Fancy Rat even if it is not ours and re-home it to a loving family. A lot of the small animals dropped off at shelters are euthanized so please do the right thing. If you must re-home and you cannot find a home yourself we will gladly help you do it.
Our goals for the future include:
Promoting responsibly bred rats more on the island as opposed to buying from a big box store
Making a database that will make providing a professional pedigree possible in a timely manner
Making professional certificates that we will issue along with a care sheet. This will help with having health guarantee
Possibly hosting Fancy Rat shows in the maritimes where people can share their love for these amazing little animals. This really depends on the level of interest that people have in it.
