Thank you to Dog Friendly NI for the support! We will make this a reality!!

While on holiday we spotted this dog park/exercise area in Miami.

Tonight I’ve been researching community grants/funding and emailed a few for advice to try and make this a reality for Larne. Ok, we won’t have the clear blue skies and the 30 degree heat but imagine having somewhere like this for our dogs to play!

We need your help 🙏🏻

🌟 Does anyone have experience in applying for community grants/funding?

🌟 Can anyone donate fencing materials required to develop a secure area?

🌟 Can anyone donate their time and skills to construct the area?

Message this page if you can help 😊

Hi all

My dog mum and dad were on their holidays and then busy buying me Christmas presents. So activity on here has been pretty quiet.

Don’t worry - in the New Year they will be working hard on getting a place for all my dog pals and I to have somewhere to play.

Hope you all had a great Christmas.

Hello December...

Have you put your Christmas tree up this weekend?

I don’t know about you, but the option of a trip to a local dog park on Christmas decorating day would be a welcome one in our house.

Let’s get some likes if you agree, and of course for Poppy who just isn’t quite sure about that twinkly tree 🎄

Had to share this post from Antrim Dog Park - check out their page to see what their council Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough has provided for their doggies 🐾

Love this. 😊💜🐾

Our girl Cara enjoying some ostrich tendon from local shop BMK Pet Supplies, a great place to swap stories about our loved ones and pick up some good hints and tips.

Thank you for the support in such a short space of time.

Small steps being made towards our ultimate goal of having a secure area for our dog’s to play happily and safely.

This was our girls first visit to Stormont Estate dog park, which is awesome if you haven’t been before!

Dog socialisation is so important in order to have a well rounded stable dog. Lack of socialisation can lead to a dog that is afraid of people, experiences and places.

🔶The Power of Social Media 🔶

I conducted some research into one of the surveys mentioned by Mid and East Antrim Council.

**********************************************
“As part of the wider consultation plan a MEA Outdoor Recreation Survey was hosted on Survey Monkey between 28 October 2018 and 31 December 2018. The survey received 311 responses.
The survey was promoted through various channels:
− Consultation poster
− Websites – MEA Council, ORNI and its product sites (e.g. WalkNI)
− Social Media – MEA Council, ORNI and its product sites (e.g. WalkNI)
− Press Release issued to local media”

***********************************************

👏🏻This page has almost 60 likes in 12 hours.
That’s almost a fifth of the responses made in TWO months. 👏🏻

Please share this page amongst your friends.

Please get in touch if you are interested in helping take this motion forward. One person has already got in touch and we could possibly look at meeting up to discuss and request a meeting with the Council.

The following is an extract of an email from Mid and East Antrim Council representative -

“In the last two years Council has completed 2 robust consultation exercises regarding the future redevelopment of Larne Town Parks and Carnfunnock Country Park.
Neither consultation exercise indicated a public desire for a dog exercise park in either area.
There are therefore no immediate plans to deliver a dog exercise park within either of these redevelopment schemes.

I am always keen to meet other parties who have an interest in development opportunities within our parks and open spaces.
Therefore, if you or someone you know is interested in developing a dog exercise area in one of our parks I would be happy to meet to discuss how this opportunity could be taken forward.”

***********************************************

I do not want this post to turn into defamation of the council but I wish to raise the point that as resident that lives within Mid and East Antrim I was not aware of the robust consultation exercise and believe there are more, who would support a dog park being created, that would not have been aware of the consultation either.

I would like to use this page in order to create a new public consultation and make our council aware of the desire to have this facility in our local area.

This is a public page formed to generate public interest and support for Mid and East Antrim Council to install a secure enclosed dog park in Larne where dogs can socialise and interact off lead.

This page is not affiliated to the Council and has been created by a resident of Larne with the hope of getting the Council on board in supporting our desire to have somewhere safe for our dogs to play.
