Happy National Dog Day!
Note from my mom:
These sweet pups make our life so much better!
Coco has been my best friend for 10 years. She’s truly seen me go through it all and has been my most loyal friend. I rescued her when she was 6 months old and was found in the rain, skinny and shaking under a car. She is still scared of storms to this day but she loves so deeply and protects so intensely due to her past. Those that she loves will tell you that if they could replicate her, they would in a heartbeat. Those that she’s unsure about might disagree. 🤣 She reads energy well.
Monty came into our lives at the perfect time. We weren’t planning on getting another dog, let alone a puppy. However, fate had a different plan. Meeting him at the rescue on a day meant for volunteering with my sister in law and niece, serendipity played its role. We don’t know what life was like before him now that’s he’s in our family.
Watching these two develop a sibling bond has been incredibly special! We feel so grateful.
We love these pups beyond words!
Sending extra love to dog parents whose dogs are no longer physically here. The hardest thing about being a pet owner. 😢 Lots of love coming your way.

🐾 1st Day it Doggy Day Care 🐾
My parents have been anxiously waiting the call from our vet who also is a Doggy Day Care Center while I was on the waiting list. Today was the day! I heard the nice lady telling mom and dad how I did. She said I was a little nervous, did a lot of sniffing, and made friends; didn’t play that much with the dogs but loved all of the humans. I play with all the dogs I’ve met so far but I think so many in one space was a lot for me. She told them that was completely normal for my first time.
I was SO excited to see my parents when they picked me up and even more excited to see my sister. 🐾 I sure am exhausted. 😴

My parents brought me to this fun trail where I splashed in water, got all muddy and sat on this cool bench that my sister had her photo taken last year, before I was even born! I hope to go back soon! ✏️🐾☀️

1st Swimming Lesson 🐾
I didn’t do any laps yet but I did walk down the steps onto this amazing floating device. I wanted to be close mom and dad so I was upset when I felt I couldn’t be by their sides when they were in the middle of this big blue water holder! They kept saying they want me to learn to swim but that they don’t want to rush me. Since this is at my grandparents house, I feel like I’ll be trying this quite often!

🎵 Every morning, I watch my parents do the same routine in the kitchen while they play this song that goes, “You’re just too good to be true. Can’t take my eyes off of you.” 🎶

I am such a snuggle bug and I love being close to my humans and my 🐾sister. I have loved every person, child and dog I’ve met but I want to meet more! This is me with my mom. I think she enjoys my cuddles a ton. She sure looks happy! I love my fam!

🐾 I don’t understand why Saturday’s are different but this day was cool 😎 🐾 .
I played outside all day and got to see people and dogs and birds and squirrels! Mom and dad weren’t even on those things they call computers! This day just made me feel much more tired because of this bright thing in the sky. ☀️ Can we do this day again tomorrow? 🐾

I am so excited to introduce my Uncle to Instagram! 🐾
I met my Uncle Roscoe one time before this whole social distancing thing happened. He wasn’t too sure about me at first. I think my playful side scared him a little bit. My parents kept talking about how amazing my grandparents and uncle are and that we had to continue to see them. We have visited two more times, outside with lots of land to run around on and still following the social distancing rules. I LOVE IT! We are getting to know each other so well and playing with three dogs is a blast. Plus, I love my grandma and grandpa so much! Family is cool 😎

• Using tiny pieces of baked sweat potatoes that have been cooled and stored in the refrigerator all night. Great training treat! .
• Working on linking more cues together and having him follow the hand signals versus the treat. This is for cues he has already been practicing. Every time we introduce a new cue, we start with “Follow the Treat” (see previous video)

• Using tiny pieces of baked sweat potatoes that have been cooled and stored in the refrigerator all night. Great training treat! .
• Progress from the first training video: move the treat slowly so the pup follows it to get them where you want them to go. See the difference in roll over from the previous post to this one. .
• Still working on breaking the habit of repeating cues. .
• Added clicker trainer for positive sound reinforcement .

We did training similar to this every day, sometimes 2-3 times a day for 7-10 days then started incorporating hand signals. .

1st Training Video
Well, we have come a long way since this first training session. 😂 This was before I started watching training videos and I clearly had no idea what I was doing. He was still interested but my quick movements, like the circles around his neck for roll over, were super confusing. I asked friends for their favorite dog trainers and was referred to , thankfully! You’ll see in upcoming videos that I had to retrain myself to:
• slow down! .
• not touch but be patient and slow so that Monty would follow the treat instead of me “helping him”
• not repeat the cue multiple times! This has been the hardest for me to break. I’m working on saying the cue one time so he knows to listen the first time. .

I’m getting longer and taller and more cuddly with my big sis every day! We both love to lay in the sun ☀️ and speaking of, we are grateful that it’s been out lately. It’s a bit chilly but we soak up the rays through the windows and life is good! 😎

My parents said it’s National Pet Day 🐾 We celebrated by having 3 training sessions, playtime, lots of naps and a long walk! This was the first time mom taught me to stay at the front door. She taught Coco when she was young and she’s never bolted out of the house! I did pretty well. I did break “stay” a couple of times but for the majority, I held it. She also said she forgot to use my super long leash which is a safer way to play this game. She will next time!

I went to the vet again this week! Mom and dad say they are even more grateful for the vets during this time. They dropped me off again and waited in the car. I wasn’t too scared but I wiggled a lot when they made my nails shorter. I got all these things they call boosters so now I can safely play with all dogs. I weighed 16.5 pounds and when I met my parents, I was 13 pounds. They say I’m a big boy but I still cuddle up on them, Coco and pillows like I’m a baby pup!

Did we just become best friends?! 🐾 First time that Coco took the initiative to lay on me today. Usually I cuddle up with her and she tolerates it for a moment or two then moves. Today, she snuggled up on me! 😍 I love her so much!

Hi, I’m Monty and this is my full life story! 🐾
My parents do a date night every single week! I love it because they do different things than the usual. They say it’s been like “Groundhogs Day” around here and that Wednesday’s mix things up. All I know is that we try fun new stuff and this thing behind me makes me warm and I’m not scared by it! Coco seems a bit more timid; she stays by mom and dad. They make sure I don’t get too close and I’m trying really hard to listen to them. I’m mastering “look at me” for photos and they love that!

My parents say that I help them stay calm during the storm. It’s been really nice outside lately so I’m not sure what storm they are talking about. They say I help them through my innocence. All I know is that I love to explore the world and I don’t have any fears yet. Wait, I lied. My dad started this machine today to cut the grass and that freaked me out. Other than that, I think this life thing is pretty amazing and full of happiness, joy, love and sunshine! ☀️ Wishing all of you that same energy right now. 🐾

Two of my favorite things to do are love my big sister by giving her a kiss with my teeth then running away and playing games with mom where she teaches me new things.
Mom is going to share these games on here because she said she wants to track my progress. All I know is that I used to play “follow the treat” then it was “follow the hand position” and now we started “follow the voice”. It’s becoming more challenging and I love it! I usually take a long nap after. 💤

Mom and dad keep telling me I’m following Coco’s lead, which they seem to really like with all the “good boy and girl” talk they do! One way my big sister and I are similar is that we both like to be in eye sight range of mom or dad at all times. Sometimes they put me on the couch for nap time but I can’t see them so I sneak back to be closer. They make little beds for me so I’m warm and comfy. Coco seems to get priority seating but I’m okay with that because I respect my elders. .
They have mentioned worrying about that separation anxiety term a few times. They say that’s why we crate train during the day so I understand that this “quarantine” (that’s a big word!) won’t last forever. I must admit, big sis and I benefit from it though. 🐾

First day in my furever home•

When I came to this new home, my name was Paterson. I didn’t even know it yet so my parents wanted something they connected with more. They named me this after two places that are significant to our family. The first is Montengro, where they visited and loved during their honeymoon. The second is Montgomery because I was born in Alabama. •
•
I love my home, especially my toys and bones but I’m learning a lot of new things, too. My parents understand that I’m brand new to this stuff and are patient but teaching me with loving discipline, mainly with the guidance of books and shows from some Cesar guy. I cried a bit in my crate my first night but only until I was tired. They told me sleeping through the night for 8 hours with no whines or accidents meant I was a “good boy”. •

I love laying with and snuggling up to them. Let’s not forget my big sister! I’m curious but I don’t jump on her. I give her space and know we will be best friends while she adjusts to me being in her home. I can tell I’m growing on her! My daddy took this photo and we all agreed, I am pretty darn cute.
