Brisbane folk: Troy is sharpening today and tomorrow (8am - 4pm) from his home in Alderley. We have just done ours in preparation for Christmas feasting and 2024.

With the mobile service booked up for the year and today was my last Sharpening day these are your last chance sharpening days before the jolly fat man in the red suit comes down your chimney.

⚠️ 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝘆-𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗳, 𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗯 𝗮𝗻𝗱 /𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗸 - could be anything including low-quality and cheap cuts.

⚠️ 𝘃𝗲𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗶𝗻 - Often the code name for Soy.

⚠️ 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗲 - Sucrose is simply the chemical name for 🍧 sugar, they just don't want to write sugar so you recognise they're putting sugar in your dogs treat. Like many LOW FAT foods, they just put sugar in them to make them actually taste good.

⚠️ 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗶𝗻 - your dog doesn't need cereal in their food, it's not species appropriate not is it a health food for them. This is a cheap filler.

⚠️ 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 - an ingredient that keeps food moist - allergic reactions are possible.

⚠️ 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝘁 - A normal part of dog food as main meals to cover off different nutrients but not needed in treats.

Four years on I still make treats the same way. With human grade ingredients, purchased and placed into the machine same day, finished and packed the next day. Quiet, quality nutrition for loved members of the family.

You know the old saying that the Cobbler’s children have no shoes? It can get that way with treats around here but I’m pleased to say Bare and Shelby have their very own stash of Festive! Festive treats are being packed and will be finding their way to some spoilt doggos shortly.

Tree is up, lights are three quarters complete and fruit mince is marinating so it’s time to bring back Festive. Baci + Bare Festive is roast pork, carrot with a scattering of apple to give your four legged family members a Christmas feast in treat form. They are a labour of love as I mince the pork, poach the carrots and finely hand dice the apples so will only do one limited run this weekend. If you’re after a bag ($15 for 100g) let me know by Friday 2 December and I’ll include your order in the ingredients shopping. 🙂

I was tense as I was waiting for Eddie to crack it, Alex yowled for the toilet when we hit the front of the line and I wasn’t sure if Bare was going to dude up with another entire male in the room. But all went well and we have a wonderful family portrait with full credit to the photographer.

I’ve always tried to keep our prices fair as the household operates with two full time working parents so by keeping Baci + Bare a micro hobby business I keep the quality up. It also means all of our clients are friends so I’ve been reluctant to raise our prices but the cost of ingredients is unavoidable. New prices are as follows:

* 100g ox liver for $10
* 100g of chicken or chicken/beetroot/parsley for $12.
* 85g kangaroo, beef or beef/sweet potato/rosemary chips for $15.

We appreciate all your support and as always continue to be dedicated to quality ingredients and technique. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out.

What are these you ask? These are dehydrated duck giblets and are for human consumption. They are a special request by my mother as she lost patience after sun and wind curing for two days. I can see why as some of the larger pieces have been in the machine for up to 72 hours! It’s an interesting traditional method as growing up I’ve seen my family dry turnips, whole butterflied ducks, chicken wings and pork belly. After drying the goods are stored in the freezer before hydrating by steaming or in congee.

Like many Queenslanders our hearts go out to those affected and continue to do so by the floods. At HQ we had water breach the lower level but power has stayed on. We got off extremely lightly so continue steadfastly to provide your family with the quality you expect. Chicken purchased, dried, packed and delivered within days. Quality small batch is how we work.

For something different I dried some cubes of beef heart for Bare and Shelby. Not as glossy or fragrant as liver but heart makes up for it with being jammed packed with benefits like coenzyme Q10, selenium, phosphorus and zinc along with essential amino acids.
