I just received notification that I received a new follower, which made my realize I have a page dedicated to what started my journey into politics.

I may have started this journey to try to change the mindset of the individuals on Council, but I realize most were very close-minded. It did open the door for me to realize that it's not just about chickens, it's about so much more!

I'm taking a short sabbatical and when I return I'm going to start documenting my process of running for city council. That will include the canvassing and what it takes to really make change in the city.

We need more people to step up and demand change! You can be that person!!

I don't get on this page much but wanted to jump on to say I appreciate the support from our community and those who have reached out to help us move forward to make change.

I will admit it was worried that one voice was going to go unheard but the amount of support I've received over the past year is amazing and makes me feel confident that we are moving in the right direction!

Question: how do residents of Florence, KY feel about allowing a chicken ordinance? If so, what does that look like for you?

My idea: if you own less than 1 acre, you can have 6-8 hens, no rooster. The hens must be in a coop, with a runner (not-ranging).

Now, if you live in the city and have more than 1 acre of property, you should have the capability to own more than 6-8 hens and can allow them to free range.

I know this is will be a long process, should the right people be elected in November, but I love hearing ideas or potential issues.

Chickens were not classified as " exotic animals/farm animals" until January of 2021 in Florence KY (and don't let them tell you otherwise, because I have the documentation proving dates). Those who had chickens prior are "grandfathered in". But I want to reach those who were not lucky enough to meet those guidelines. If you are wanting chickens (hens specifically), what does that look like for you?

And I open up the dialogue for those in cities that allow hens. What has been your biggest hurdle? Essentially, I want as much feedback as possible so I can propose an ordinance should I be lucky enough to be elected in November.

And I'll take it a step further and ask about beekeeping. If you're interested, what does that look like for you? The community? I'm advocating for homeowners rights, which include both chickens and beekeeping.

I haven't posted much on this page because I've been actively campaigning for Florence City Council. I want to start by saying my platform centers on Property Rights. If you want 6-8 hens (no rooster) and live outside of an HOA, you should have that RIght!

I will be the voice of The People regardless if I'm elected. I was lucky enough to start my little homestead during Covid in the summer of 2020. This included gardening, chickens and composting. I now can my access to ensure we have organic foods for my family throughout the winter.

We should NEVER be denied those rights and when the ordinance changed in January of 2021, it took away the rights of the people. All of our surrounding cities have chicken ordinances and they're thriving. The City of Florence is behind and we need to fight to prevent them from continuing to take our rights from us!
