Midweek check-in: Who else feels like they need their dog’s unconditional love right about now? 🐾💚

It might only be Wednesday, but our pups remind us daily that love, patience, and a good tail wag go a long way. (And hey — if you’re reaching for Tylenol after watching the news… you’re not alone. 😉)

🐾 It’s National Dog Week — and a perfect reminder that so many incredible dogs are still waiting in our local shelters for a second chance.

Meet Blue 💙
This sweet 5-year-old Terrier, American Pit Bull/Mix is currently at Gaston County Animal Care & Enforcement () and is hoping for his forever family. (ID: 48572118)

Shelter pups like Blue don’t just need homes — they need hope. By adopting, fostering, volunteering, or even just sharing this post, you can make a difference.

👉 Visit egov.gastongov.com/adoptablepetsto see Blue and many other adoptable dogs still waiting for love.

Let’s celebrate National Dog Week by helping pups like Blue find the families they deserve! 🐶💚

Every gift has a story behind it. 💚 This week, that story came from Jeannette Morton, who chose us as a recipient in the People’s Choice Auction hosted by the Mona Pants Foundation.

( / ) is a nonprofit that raises money for rescue animals through their shop and online auctions 🐾 — and we are honored they selected APBF to support.

Because of their generosity, more pit bulls will find safety, love, and forever homes. 🐶✨

From all of us at the American Pit Bull Foundation, thank you Jeannette and Mona Pants Foundation for believing in our mission and helping us give these dogs the second chances they deserve. 🙏

Whew… it’s been a week. 🐾 With everything going on in the world, here’s a little levity as we head into the weekend — an adorable pittie to remind us why dogs make life so much better. 💚

From their silly sleeping positions to their unconditional love, our pups have a way of keeping us grounded and making us smile no matter what. Drop a 🐶 in the comments if your dog makes your world brighter too!

🐶 September is National Food Safety Education Month — a perfect reminder that some of our favorite foods can be dangerous for dogs.

Here are a few things to steer clear of:
🚫 Grapes & raisins — can cause kidney failure
🚫 Chocolate & coffee — toxic to the heart & nervous system
🚫 Onions & garlic — damage red blood cells
🚫 Avocado — contains persin (toxic in large amounts) + high fat + choking hazard from the pit
🚫 Xylitol (sugar-free gum, candy, peanut butter) — causes a dangerous drop in blood sugar
🚫 Alcohol — even small amounts are toxic
🚫 Cooked bones — can splinter and cause internal injuries

Even small amounts of these can be harmful — so always keep them out of paw’s reach and remind family and friends too!

💚 Share this post to help keep more pups safe.

💚 This is a throwback to Sidekick Jade during her training days with Operation Sidekick — a reminder of how much healing and hope dogs can bring.

🐾 Dogs have a way of healing hearts in ways words can’t.

Science backs it up:
💚 Being with dogs can lower blood pressure and reduce stress
💚 Their companionship fights loneliness and provides comfort
💚 Daily walks and routines encourage movement and structure
💚 Training and bonding create a sense of purpose

At APBF, we see this every day — especially through our Operation Sidekick program, where rescued pitties become life-changing service dogs for veterans with PTSD. These partnerships are proof that love on four paws can transform lives. 🐶✨

If you’ve experienced the healing power of a dog, share your story in the comments.

🐾 Ever wondered what the difference is between a dog behaviorist and a trainer? 🤔

Both play important roles in helping dogs and their families succeed — but their approaches, focus, and training are very different.

Swipe through to see how each supports dogs and pittie parents, and why understanding the difference matters when choosing the right help. 💚

September is Responsible Dog Ownership Month, 🐾 and at APBF, we know that responsible pittie parents are the heart of change.

Being a responsible dog owner means:
🏡 Providing a safe, loving home
📚 Committing to training & socialization
💉 Prioritizing health & wellness
🗣 Advocating against stigma

Together, we can show the world the love, loyalty, and potential of pit bulls when they’re given the care they deserve. 💚
