What a big weekend we had! Goose ended up 5th in the In Hand Freestyle and 6th place Overall. In a pretty crazy environment with people, horses and all sorts of new things everywhere he behaved wonderfully!
Sadly, he didn't get adopted, but he did go home with a wonderful new foster home.
Way to go Goose, you sure made me proud this weekend big guy! 👏

Goose working on getting used to the wagon. He was a little nervous about it at first but calmed down and thought through everything. I won't say he enjoyed pulling that noisy thing behind him, but he did tolerate it 😄.

Goose trotting some figure 8's in hand and working on sidepassing. He's improved so much with all of his ground work over the past few months. I wished I could have gotten him farther under saddle, but his progress from where we started to accepting a saddle and having someone sit on him and stay relaxed is huge for him.
He will be ready for someone to progress under saddle or I could see him being an in hand show horse of some type with those looks 😉

Goose had another visit from OdiLu Wellness yesterday for a PEMF/Magnawave session to get him feeling his best before the Challenge.
He did much better today with relaxing during the session with being in the stall vs in the barn alleyway. He was much more relaxed with the loops today compared to his first session and seemed to enjoy attention from someone other than me

Working on our pivot in hand, not perfect but getting there! Goose will now trot beside me and in a liberty draw also (haven't tried without halter at a trot yet). This is huge progress for him, before we started on some liberty basics, he would not trot beside me in hand and definitely was not getting in any hurry to come towards me. I had 0 experience with liberty techniques before playing around with it with Goose, but have to say it is pretty fun, and Goose really seems to enjoy it!

What is the ideal home for Goose? What does he like to do?

Goose needs a confident and experienced person, he really needs "his" person. I think he's the type of horse that has someone just for him who he will really trust and flourish with. He needs someone with lots of love to give and even more patience. He has come a long ways from where we started especially on his ground work, and needs someone who will continue his training. Someone who understands and laughs at the fact he will snort at you like you're the boogie monster for a good while until he gets to know you.
Goose is a BIG handsome guy, he turns heads when people see him and is built to the 9's. He does not have a mean bone in his body... but he is reactive. His biggest fear is people, although he is getting much better and learning that people can be good with a gentle touch and sometimes even cookies!

On the ground I have seen big improvements and even when he does get spooked he slows down and thinks through it. He has also made progress under saddle, but I'm not sure if he will be riding by the Expo (no sense in getting in a hurry and undoing all his progress now 😉)

I think he could excel at a number of things such as ranch halter, in hand classes, obstacles and liberty. I noticed a big change when working on some basic liberty techniques with him and think he would do excellent with a trainer who knows a little bit more about liberty than myself!
Under saddle I think he will do better progressing under english tack. He seems a little more comfortable under an English saddle than western saddle.

He is trying hard to overcome his fears and he wants so badly to please, he just needs that perfect person to continue his training and really show off what he can do. 💗

Goose walk, trot, canter both directions being lunged. He tends to be a little nervous at first when lunging but calms down quickly. I usually warm him up slowly letting him walk and trot for a little bit and won't ask him to canter until he relaxes.
He continues to seem more comfortable with an english saddle vs western so he may just make a better english "pony" (he's at least 16HH) 😆 He did spook when warming up when the stirrup fell and hit his side but he just bolted and then stopped, no bucking!

Thanks

Goose had a visit from the farrier yesterday! I didn't catch a picture while he was being trimmed, but he got a huge compliment from the farrier who said he stood the best he ever has for him. Typically he will stand ok for the farrier but will sometimes pull his foot away or spook when he crosses behind him, but yesterday he stood calm and relaxed the whole time. No spooking, snorting or pulling his foot away!
I have found he does best if I tie him to the Blocker ring where I usually tie him to groom and saddle and then step back away from him while he is being trimmed so he can just focus on the farrier.

We tried something new over the weekend and Goose did SHOCKINGLY well with it. Typically anything new takes a few times for him to adjust to and is a little scary to him, but this was not the case with trying out an english saddle!
Although Goose has been doing better and getting more comfortable with a saddle, his go to reaction if scared is still to buck, only if saddled.
He did not buck one single time with the English saddle, even when he began to trot for the first time with this saddle, he was a little startled, and picked up a fast paced canter but then calmed down once he was familiar with the movement of the saddle. Way to go big guy!

Who does Goose get along with?
He currently stays with my other training challenge horse Pollyanna who is a mare. He gets along good with her and tends to be herd boss, but is not an aggressive herd boss.
He has also been turned out with another gelding who was the bossy type. He got along good with him as well but the other gelding was the herd boss in their group.
He is also turned out with a show cow who he gets along with well also.
Overall he's an easy going guy around other horses and should get along with just about anyone! He's also been turned out by himself and was not bothered by not having a buddy with him.

What type of trailer will Goose load in?
He has been hauled in an open stock type trailer and also a slant load trailer with a dark inside. The slant load trailer has a much smaller door than the stock trailer, so he was a little unsure about loading in it at first but is getting more comfortable with it the more he practices.

Goose would like to call this activity "PUT THAT THING BACK WHERE IT CAME FROM!" 😆
This was our 2nd day working with the flag/banner and today was MUCH better than yesterday. He's not quite comfortable with the banner touching him past the shoulder yet but did much better with the noise and was ok with it touching him on the shoulder.
He was a little more reactive with it being on his right side compared to left so we will keep working on that.

First ride... ish 😄 this video is actually from last week, the first time sitting on him with halter then we moved to the bridle. We repeated the same exercise today with me spending more time sitting on him and he did relax more today with lowering his head and chewing after getting off and on and sitting on him for a few minutes. My goal before asking for any movement is for him to relax with me in the saddle and not become tense or nervous with me moving around in the saddle.
