I had the awesome opportunity to see our presentational termite mound in full aardvark presentation mode. I love inventing and creating but having the opportunity to see an aardvark sniff and snort all over something we made is the perfect way to spend an afternoon. This termite mound has clear removable tubes that not only show off that super sniffer but also that long sticky tongue. Aardvarks are sooo weird! While we don’t know of any 2 inch miniature sloths out there, we do know that this mini chat tree is a heck of a lot easier to travel with and show how easily they assemble together. Let’s get this year started! 2021 has been a lot for all of us but it has been a particularly special journey for Zoo Enrichment Lab. We started taking our first orders in January and it’s been a wild ride ever since. Not gonna lie, losing our jobs in 2020 was a bit traumatic but taking all that pain and transforming it into a new business adventure has been therapeutic, and watching our small workshop grow into a thriving and collaborative makerspace has been healing and beyond restorative to our souls. Finding a way to run a successful business while continuing to use our talents to help improve the lives of animals and their caretakers has been a double bonus. Thank you to all our new and returning clients. Your support not only helps us keep the workshop lights on but it allows us to do the work that makes our hearts smile. We are beyond grateful to all our zoo and aquarium friends for helping to grow this business. Our mission for 2022 and beyond is to give back, helping provide you all with new tools to help advance enrichment and animal welfare strategies. Thanks @savingcranes for sharing this video of Brolga Hugh using her new rock shaped timed feeder! Timed feeders provide opportunities for Hugh to forage for grapes and mealworms throughout the day. If you watch carefully you can see her pick out all the grapes to get to the mealworm which she brings to her water to soak. Mealworms are super fatty treats.
