Animals need enrichment night and day!
These late-night snackers rely on their incredible sense of smell to track down tasty treats in the dark. Our hanging log is perfect for hiding goodies for tree top dwellers like kinkajous and owl monkeys. Made with stainless steel hardware and removable cap for easy cleaning, its both enriching for critters and functional for their caretakers.

Seeing Roxy the White-Necked Raven engaged in natural foraging behavior with our newly designed Pinecone Feeder brought a lot of smiles to us here at Zoo Enrichment Lab. Made from antimicrobial marine felt fabric and equipped with stainless steel hardware for hanging, it provides the perfect enrichment for your feathered friends. Just stuff it with their favorite snacks and enjoy watching them probe and explore the nooks and crannys for all kinds of yummy bits! Who else would enjoy this new design?

Thanks , Dylan Boswell Baldridge and the entire flock for helping test out our creations. Stay tuned for more!!!

Need a way to get food off the ground and into the trees for your arboreal friends? Our Hanging Leaf Dish might just do the trick! It's easy to clean, holds up to 16 oz of liquids, and combines a unique look with some awesome functionality. And if you think the Hanging Leaf Dish is swanky, stay tuned for more... we may or may not be testing out a new design with an engaging puzzle top!

Huge thanks to Memphis Zoo, Dylan Boswell Baldridge and the Red Ruffed Lemur clan for helping with R&D!

Ice Treat Vines can be a hit any time of the year, but there is something truly special about beating the heat of summer with some frosty treats. Our Ice Treat Vine keeps teeth and claws safe while snacking and there is no risk of entanglement once the tasty treat is gone. They are strong and flexible and have been battle tested by some of our most demanding and crafty of clients, Orangutans. We truly love seeing these in action.

Big thanks to and Dylan Boswell Baldridge for sharing these pics with us.

Stay cool friends!

Who loves cicadas! Periodic cicadas are emerging in insane numbers here in Chicago. In case you're not familiar with these critters, they live underground for 17 years before all deciding to crawl out, shed their exoskeleton, and scream at each other. It’s hard to hear the sound of our grinders over the millions of screaming cicadas looking for love. All the wildlife around us are thrilled with the extra protein snacks. But every zoo animal has personal preferences and we were wondering if any of your animals do not enjoy cicadas? Let us know and share your stories!

Upsized, supersized, and maximized!
This is the most amount of animal ambassador fun we could possibly pack onto a single portable platform. This overstuffed playground has a dig box, a log hide for shy fries, browse holders, a resting shelf, tons of climbing branches and vines and still fits through a doorway! Maximum function with maximum style.

Most of our custom projects start out as a conversation with the animal care team and pause for a moment in sketch form before being realized into a brand new fabrication.

This custom keeper chat structure was developed specifically for the Akron Zoo’s enrichment yard. It disassembles for winter storage and has lots of climbing and exploring opportunities as well as platforms, hides, browse holders, and eyelets for hanging feeders. Let us help you plan your next enrichment project today.

Do you love our chat trees but have some pint sized ambassador animal friends that would love a pint sized solution? This extra portable tree is perfect for taking smaller critters to a classroom for a visit or creating casual photo opportunities for a special event. It’s a comfy place for herps and birds to rest that is a bit lower and closer for guest viewing. This shorter tree can bring folks closer to animals and allow them to appreciate misunderstood creepy crawlies from a comfortable distance.

Our new Stump Cluster is great fun for servals to show off their jumping skills or maybe they are a pleasant spot for a porcupine to settle while munching on some biscuits. They are stable and secure but light enough to move around a stage by hidden hand holds if needed. This is our standard sized stump cluster but we are always happy to customize your order to accommodate butts of all shape and sizes!

Looking for a new way to show off some arboreal snakes and their climbing skills? These portable trees are great for allowing snakes to climb and explore. They allow you to get snakes off your shoulders and out of your hand so you can focus your attention on interpreting their natural behaviors and connecting with guests. Who knows, maybe a tamandua or two might wanna try out these climbing trees?

What animals are enjoying them? You all are keeping us so busy in the workshop it’s been hard to sneak away and visit any zoos or aquariums so please share your stories, share your pics with us, or tag us in your posts! Zoo Enrichment Lab turns 3!!!!
Happy Birthday to US!
What a whirlwind it’s been for the past few years. We remember all too well the day we got the call that our department had been cut from our local zoo. 20 years of dedicating our lives to enriching the lives of animals in our care suddenly seemed to come to a screeching halt. With gratitude in our hearts, what started in tears has now hit 3 YEARS! None of Zoo Enrichment Lab’s success could have been possible without the generosity of those who helped to get us started and all of you out there who continue to push for the betterment of animal welfare across the states and beyond. Your support, your collaboration, your passion for animal welfare is what drives us to keep pushing forward and developing new and unique devices each and every day.

Want to give Zoo Enrichment Lab a birthday gift? Gift us your wants and needs for 2024 and beyond! What's the biggest issue you’re looking to solve? Do you want a vine making workshop or something else? What species is in the biggest need for natural looking enrichment? Is there a specific animal behavior or activity that you want to see more of? Any and all comments welcome and encouraged. The only wrong suggestion is the one we never hear. We exist because every animal deserves the best quality care possible. Help us keep on doing what we love.

Zoo Enrichment Lab

Sarah Feliciano and Matthew Owens are the co-founders of this unique maker space dedicated to the invention and fabrication of enrichment scientifically designed to improve animal welfare by drawing out species specific behaviors focusing on the individual.

Sarah and Matthew have devoted a combined 32 plus years to enhancing and enriching the lives of countless animals. It is their mission to ensure each animal is treated as a unique individual, each one with a distinctive set of needs, preferences, and personalities. With no resident zoo to call home anymore, we want to continue our work, not just for our local zoo, but for zoos and conservation parks across the US and abroad.

Please help this new startup acquire the basic tools and specialty equipment needed to continue raising the standard of care for zoos animals.
