If wildlife can p**p in the forest, why can't your dog?
In a nutshell: wildlife f***s is very different from dog f***s and that difference can have detrimental effects on our natural areas and people.
1. Wildlife eat what is in the forest and return those nutrients to the ecosystem--it's a very balanced design.
2. Domestic pets eat very different food, introducing concentrated nutrients not found in nature at those high levels. In particular, nitrogen and phosphorus can impact the local plant community, and even worse, it can contaminate fresh water sources. Ever wonder about those algae blooms or how E. coli gets in our lakes?
3. Gut flora in wildlife is different from dogs. The bacteria and parasites found in dogs can include roundworms, giardia, E. coli, Cryptosporidium, and many others. These parasites can harm wildlife and humans.
4. Dog p**p can take weeks to months to biodegrade, perhaps due to density from the diet, but also the preservatives in the dog food. Wildlife s**t can disappear within a week or less, due to bones, fur and seeds, helping plants sprout in new locations in an ecosystem.
Bottom line: domestic dogs, and yes, humans, too, should not p**p in nature as it adversely affects our ecosystem, our wildlife and our fresh water sources.
