We're hiring!

We've got a brand new role of Assistance Dog Programme Training and Development Coordinator.

The successful candidate will oversee the training and development of Trainee Assistance Dog Trainers and Instructors to ensure they have the right skills and up to date knowledge on ADI/ ADUK policies to ensure the dogs are well-prepared to assist individuals with disabilities, thereby enhancing their independence and quality of life.

They will also be responsible for inducting all new starters allocated to our Bio detection dog department, giving an overview of our Assistance Dog Programme so they have a good understanding of this work too.

The next time you’re in your dog’s mouth (you do brush his or her teeth, right?) notice the bump on the roof of his mouth just behind the two front middle teeth? It’s called the ‘incisive papilla,” and near the center of it is a hole that leads to a duct that leads to the “Jacobson’s organ.” The Jacobson’s organ is a very cool thing. Put in “See Spot Run” terms, it allows your dog to literally taste the air by combining taste and smell.

Dogs use their Jacobson’s organ to experience sexual markers (pheromones) left behind by other dogs via urine, or when coming across the scent of a bitch in season. While dogs don’t have a Flehmen response seen in many other animals (throwing back the head, and raising or curling the upper lip which helps open the entry slits into Jacobson’s Organ), dogs will “chatter their teeth” instead. A dog might hold his mouth in a quasi-open position that looks a little like a grin, or he might even lick the air. And you thought he was just happy to see you.

One theory holds that the Jacobson’s Organ could account for a dog’s ability to identify and recognize other animals and people. It’s also believed that it’s this organ that enhances a newborn’s ability to find its mother.

Meet the gorgeous Serin ❤️ a gentle and loving dog who came to us as a stray.

There is mischief just waiting to come out, she loves pinching socks and shoes which she leaves in the garden for you to retrieve - classic Spaniel!

Serin loves to sit on your lap and be fussed over, the more the better as far as she is concerned. She shows some signs of separation anxiety and so will need a patient home with another dog to help build her confidence in this area, and in general. A family who can also continue her training.

Check out her full profile and apply here: https://spanielaid.co.uk/spaniel/serin-sa4314/ 🐾

This beautiful bonded pair of springers are still looking for their forever home 🐾

Opal and Manuka, are currently living in Glasgow, Opal is 5 years old and Manuka is 3 years old. They are very sweet, easy-going girls who are super affectionate, love being around people, and enjoy playing. They came into Spaniel Aid due to their owner's ill health and are now looking for their forever home.

They are great with new people and can live with children 8 and up. They have been well-trained, know their basic commands, and are excellent traveler's!

These lovely girls would love plenty of cuddles, playtime, and a good-sized garden to dash around in. Could you offer them a forever home?

For more information and to apply, please visit their profile at the link below or in our bio: https://spanielaid.co.uk/spaniel/manuka-sa4242-and-opal-sa4243/

He thrives on mental and physical activity and loves interacting with people and other dogs, but can be cheeky, often stealing items to show off. Dexter is well-trained in basic commands, though his recall needs improvement. He gets along well with children and other dogs, but not cats.

He is looking for an active home with another dog and ample opportunities for mental stimulation, such as agility or gun dog training, to keep him happy and engaged.
