When I first started working with insects, the vibrant colours of the Madagascan Sunset Moth absolutely blew me away 🧡 It became an instant favourite for me, and I'm still amazed by the colours and the patterns every time I get to work with this species!

Often mistaken for a butterfly, this day-flying moth is considered one of the most impressive and appealing-looking lepidopterans. The colours originate from optical interference in the iridescent parts of the wings, while the black parts are pigmented. The bright aposematic colours warn predators of its toxicity, a strategy seen in many diurnal moths ✨

Sorry I've been a bit quiet on here for the past couple weeks - I returned from holiday last weekend and things have been a bit hectic since! 😅

Every day I am in awe of the beauty of the insects that I get to work with - each one is so unique and it's amazing to see all their intricate details up close 🧡

This beautiful giant is a female Philippines Atlas Moth (Attacus Lorquini), with a wingspan of 21cm. I was amazed to find out that their wingspan can reach up to 27cm!

This stunning moth will be available along with some other incredible framed specimens at the Christmas Craft and Gift Fair at Dobbies Garden Centre in Southport, UK next Friday 10th - Sunday 12th November. If you're in the area, please pop by and say hello - I'll also have my wing earrings and new wing necklaces available! 🦋
