One week old today!

Our first litter in a long while was born today. 💗Black otter x blue otter Netherland dwarfs. Three were born, one passed away quickly and two are doing well so far. Unfortunately, our Holland lop had a hippo (a very large baby) and lost her entire litter. Dwarf breeds are challenging. We hope these two make it!

Willowbrook Bunny Families Please BEWARE:

We are VERY sad to announce that we’ve confirmed the reports going around about a local case of RHDV2. This has been our biggest fear as we’ve been in touch with breeders around the country, many who’ve lost their entire herds. This deadly virus causes hemorrhage and death in wild and domestic rabbits. It’s highly contagious and fatal and is of high concern at the state and federal levels. The involvement of wild cottontails and hares is of particular concern.

Clinical signs: Often the only signs of the disease are sudden death and possibly blood-stained noses caused by internal bleeding. Infected rabbits may also develop a fever, be hesitant to eat, or show respiratory or nervous signs. Many of the rabbits confirmed with RHDV2 in Arizona and New Mexico have shown no clinical signs or gross pathology other than sudden death.

Transmission: RHDV2 can be spread through contact with infected rabbits, their meat or their fur, or materials coming in contact with them. Scavengers and birds may play an important role in indirect transmission of the virus.

Rabbit owners should reach out directly to their veterinarian for more information. Keep dogs and other pets that go outside away from your bunnies. Do not attend shows. Don’t let your rabbits play outside. Read about bio security. 10% bleach will deactivate the virus but it’s often too late.
