I won’t have the ability to put plants in all the terraces this year so if you know someone who’d like a spot - send me our way. The three terraces that get more shade will most likely be empty this year. I can water things but they’d have to tend to them (weeding etc).

We got a lawns to legumes grant! The plan to plant a bunch of pollinator friendly plants on the shady part of our front yard which is a significant slope.

Reading about building an a-frame to find the contours and installing more catch logs now. And thinking about which plants we wanna get!

So exciting!

It’s harvest time for a few things. I’m fairly buried in work these day but I’m planning on getting stuff to a food shelf in the next 2 weeks. Anyone have a place they recommend?

Not everything is a success….but done things are still trucking along.

Harvested beets today. Kohlrabi is ready. Gotta figure out where I’m donating to this week.

More updates. Not pictured: 2 monarch chrysalises inside. We supported over 20 monarchs this year. 🤘🏻

Hosta given to us by a Friend - didn’t expect it to bloom this year. Food for pollinators.

Also: apparently cicadas like cabbage. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hi folks. We’re hanging on to the plants as best we can in a drought/extreme heat. My beloved ferns have kicked the proverbial bucket. 😞 The lettuce bolted but kale is hanging in there and so is the cabbage, kohlrabi, Brussels sprouts, collards, and peppers. So I will have food to donate!

We could use some straw to mulch around the plants so if anyone has some leads on inexpensive straw bales, holler at me! 🥰

Hope everyone is hanging in there.

Things are cranking up. I’m hoping I have more energy this year than last to grow lots of food for folks. xoxo The apricot trees are part of a micro co-op with a coworker so she gets first dibs on those, but if we’re super productive...

This is the first season for the asparagus. I’m excited about that though.

Lots of work to do!!

Hurriedly dug up some carrots before the snowfall today. Here’s a few - I stored the rest in the greenhouse until I have time to wash them. Pretty tasty.

So far the greenhouse plants are holding steady. 🤞🏻

I did dig up the cabbage from the donation garden and move it into pots in the greenhouse. It’s be cool if it keeps going and I can donate it after all... otherwise most of these plants are non-edibles. Just good oxygen and a bit of green as we head into the dreary months.

Literally just pulled these out of the snow.

How local could food be in the U.S.? A modeling study estimates the distance within which metro centers could meet food needs if they tried to feed themselves locally. Some--but not all--could rely on nearby agricultural land, and dietary changes would increase local potential, according to the stud...

Not the harvest I was hoping for this year. But off to donate this at Interfaith Action. Next year will be better.

So. Tomatoes are a thing.

Not enough consistent bean harvest to give away. I’ve learned a lot this year.

The lettuce is still making progress and I look forward to taking that out for donation. ❤️
