We will be out of the office until beginning of August but in the mean time enjoy pictures of our first overlanding adventure with a dog and a baby.

If you want to connect with a dog. If you want to help a dog to regulate their emotions through calmer responses. Then you will probably need any triggering exposure to be below their emotional threshold.

Make sure the dog is able to remain connected, to process new information (in example, changing their mind about triggers that they remembered as being a potential threat) and to self-regulate at a slower, more relaxed pace.

You can even co-regulate if you are both calm, having a calming effect on each other. No rush😇

This cutie, Brizzy, was dumped off in the woods and in a rescue in her little short life. Her pawrents realized she’s was struggling with fear and nervousness that was preventing her from loving a happy puppy hood. She will learning confidence and socialization with us so she can get back the time she lost. 🖤

Zeus got the last of his puppy vaccines today and is now street legal. He got to show off his manners and “work” mode to all the wonderful employees of Armstrong.

Zeus is working on being socialized to new friends on our micro-farm all while working on potty training, kennel, and starting core skills like recall and place. He’s been such a good boy at camp while his paw-rents are away.

Puppy socialisation is NOT just about playing with other dogs.

In fact, too much uncontrolled exposure to other dogs can cause so many unintended consequences.

If you have a puppy, make sure you try to work on ALL aspects of socialisation, as listed in the bottom graphic.

I think it’s time to re-introduce myself.

I’m Ruth, owner and head trainer of A-Z DOGS. I created this company to help dog owners understand their pups better and help them communicate.

Just like most relationships, communicating is the way to building trust and a bond with your pup. I too have been in your shoes, frustrated with which advice to follow when raising my dogs.

My two same aged rowdy adolescent dogs, Zena & Oakley, were the reason behind me starting my own business. I wanted to be able to take them on all the adventures and not be embarrassed with two big dogs trying to pull me down. (Just because they saw a stupid squirrel.) 🐿

I am dog mom of three beauties that you have probably seen on my page. Oakley (Akita/Heeler), Zena (Husky/Catahoula) and Bean (Chihuahua) have all taught me how to be the best trainer and dog advocate more than any textbook ever could.

I take pride in teaching pet owners that behavior goes further than basic obedience. It starts with making sure our pups are fed a proper diet, and making sure their needs are met both mentally and physically.

Remember to be easy on yourself when it come to dog parenting. Perfect dogs are not born they are formed by the guidance and structure we give them.

We are so proud of this little guy! 👏

George’s came to us a scared and fearful pup. His confidence in humanity is growing by the day.

He started our board and train program scared and shy of the human. After weeks of hard work and dedication, George is learning to open up and become the confident pup we know he can be. Way to go little bud! 🐶🖤

With the weather getting warmer and warmer, I just wanted to remind everyone that while running with your pup can make for killer bonding time and definitely tire them out, heat stroke and hot pavement is something to consider. Also, strenuous, high-impact exercises like sustained jogging can put a lot of stress on a young dog's still-growing bones. Remember to give your dog plenty of breaks, lots of water, and if the pavement is too hot for your hands, it's too hot for their paws!
