We had a vet emergency with Maggie today. We thought she had went into labor but hours passed with no progress so we took her in to be checked out. Turns out she had pyometra and a pregnancy going on at the same time however the puppies had passed away awhile ago. Her body was attempting to abort the pregnancy. From the X-ray you could see fragments of two puppies which weren’t developed, one which looked to be fully developed until he performed the c section. That puppy was not formed from the umbilical cord down. He also said they had stopped growing a few weeks ago before they passed because the puppy hardly had any hair. Maggie had to be spayed during the procedure which was very risky due to enlarged vessels due to pregnancy but the surgeon did not want to risk leaving her intact with an infection that wouldn’t go away so I gave the go ahead. I’d much rather have my dog healthy than risk her life for another season. She lost a lot of blood and her heart almost gave out on them a couple of times but they were able to save her, thank the lord! She is home resting and recovering now. She’s in alot of pain but she’s drinking and snacking a bit so that’s a good sign. She’s also easily awoken and that’s a very good sign also. Maggie is now officially retired and will live out the rest of her days as my companion only. Please pray for a speedy recovery! Today has been a rollercoaster. Very traumatizing and difficult. But on another brighter note, Sadie has began showing early signs of labor and should be whelping very soon.
