We got such a wonderful email the other day from Finn’s family who just celebrated his one year adoptaversary! 💕

“We adopted Filet (now Finn) a year ago today and I wanted to send a quick update on just how amazingly he is doing! Since bringing him home, Finn has integrated into our home and our family fantastically. His confidence gets stronger every day and he is such a little love bug now. His nickname is Potato as he is a rolly polly fellow with a great appetite. His eyes are clear and his coat has become silky soft. He has made friends with our two other cats, Mushu and Amis, and they often play and sleep together. He also loves watching cat videos. I’ve included some photos. We love our little Finn so, so much and are so happy we adopted him! He is such a little character and a great addition to our family. Thank you again!

You all do such kind, amazing work and I thought a bit of good news would brighten your day.”

Going into the weekend with more happy updates! 💕

You may remember King Beetus from our previous post on his little hitchhiking maggot friends, but he was adopted from us back in October ‘22, and his new friend Lord Cynder was adopted from us back in October ‘23. They are clearly the most regal of boys! 👑

I was an intake from a colony out in Scarborough and brought in once I finally decided I should stop running away from the nice people taking care of me. I’ve quickly learned that indoor life is great! I’m an extremely affectionate boy who loves to be held and carried around, and I am definitely a lap cat. If I could crawl inside of your skin to get closer to you, I most definitely would. I can be a bit shy in new environments but it doesn’t take me long to get settled. I can be vocal when I want your attention. I am not much of a food motivated cat, although I do like my tube treats, I’d much rather have all the cuddles instead! I am a big fan of toys and laser pointers and catnip! I don’t quite know how I feel about other cats yet, I get bullied because they said I smell like a stinky boy cat. I am rather submissive and don’t fight back, so I’d likely get along well with another easy going cat, but I would also be quite happy being your one and only! P.S all the peoples said I’m super extra cute because I’m “polydactyl” and have bonus toes, but I don’t know what that means, I’m just happy for the extra attention!

Aaaand next one! 🥳

Bandit (formerly Nimbus) was a part of the Mississauga crew who just celebrated his 1 year adoptaversary! He was ~17/18 years old when he arrived, and he’s certainly showing no signs of slowing down! He’s still extremely energetic and outgoing, and truly just out here living his best life! 🥰💕

The happy updates continue! 🥰 This time with our FeLV positive alumni!

Pixie and Sapphire got adopted a couple weeks ago and were quick to make themselves right at home! 🧡🤎

Jerry and Sparkles just celebrated their 2 year adoptaversary! The unique thing in this pair is that Sparkles (floof) is the only one who is FeLV positive, but they were extremely bonded to each other, so obviously we couldn’t separate them! Jerry has always tested negative so he stays protected with the FeLV vaccine. 🖤🤍

It’s always more difficult for FeLV positive cats to get adopted, so it’s extra special when they’re able to celebrate these milestones! 🥰💕

I was rescued from an outdoor colony and brought inside once I realized people weren’t so bad! I’m a very “typical” cat. I can be vocal when I want your attention. I love my people, I’m extremely affectionate and enjoy being picked up and carried around while I purr and make biscuits. I also am a huge fan of toys and catnip, and I’m happy to entertain myself if you’re busy! I love my food and snacks, and apparently I’ve already started to get a little pudgy 🤨. I can tolerate other cats if they respect my boundaries, and I am not a fan of dogs at all. Personally, I would much rather be your one and only.

Brown Tabby DMH

My mom and 5 of my siblings were found roaming the streets of Toronto back in 2018. I was adopted back in February 2019 but was returned as my family was moving out of the country. I was adopted again back in 2021 and recently returned again as I was no longer compatible with my human. I can be a bit nervous in new situations, and I may hiss at you for a couple of days but I acclimate quickly! I’m an extremely sweet and affectionate girl, I love to wind and rub between your legs. I can be picked up and cuddled and I looooove head rubs! I love to play with toys, especially the wand toys! I’ve quickly decided that I do not like sharing my attention with any other cats and would very much like to be your one and only.

ADOPTED! 🥰
🍝Rotini🍝
2 year old neutered male
British Shorthair
⚠️ Special needs - urinary

Rotini here is the poster child for the joke “purebred cats often come with purebred problems”. Despite being such a young boy, he’s had a rough go this year. He had a cystotomy (surgery to remove bladder stones) back in June, and then he was admitted to the emergency hospital in October where he was diagnosed with a urinary obstruction which can be very life threatening. The emergency hospital was able to successfully unblock him and he did well after he was discharged. However, in the following weeks he started vocalizing and straining in the litter box again. His family was unable to afford another emergency visit for him and scheduled an euthanasia appointment so he would no longer be in pain. Wellington reached out to us to instead see if we would be willing to take him on, and we picked him up an hour later. We took him straight to the emergency clinic and they were able to perform a perineal urethrostomy surgery (essentially widening the opening of his urethra to decrease the chances of a recurring obstruction).

He has recovered quite well from the procedure and has been closely monitored by the Wellington team. He has had no urination issues although he currently has some diarrhea (suspect due to a combination of the antibiotics he was on and stress of being boarded at the vet). He is still a little sensitive when we clean his back end for him (he’s a little too chunky to be able to reach) but we don’t blame him after everything he’s been through.

He is a very sweet boy, although he’s still quite shy and we’re still learning more about him day by day. He will need some time to adjust to new environments, and is sensitive with loud noises and sudden movements. He also is not fond of being picked up for long periods of time. He’s a gentle and affectionate boy who enjoys chin scratches and is relatively “chill” for his age, and enjoys mostly lounging around. He does indulge in the zoomies every now and then, and enjoys his catnip and wand toys. He can be chatty when he wants food and/or your attention and often has the “no thoughts, head empty” look going on. He doesn’t seem to be particularly fond of other animals, but it’s possible he may be okay with other laid-back animals with proper introduction.

It’s extremely important for him to go to a forever family that wants him for more than his charming looks. He will need a home that is committed to providing a low-stress environment and monitoring him closely for any recurring concerns. He must remain on a prescription urinary diet (ideally canned only - clearly he’s not picky) and he is already on a diet. Different vets have different monitoring protocols for urinary cats, but his future will likely involve routinely monitoring his urine and possibly x-rays and/or bloodwork.

4 year old neutered male
Black & white

I was a transfer down from Northern Ontario back in October 2020 with my siblings, in search of new beginnings! I was adopted in November 2020 and was recently returned in July 2023. My family reported that I was a wonderful companion in the years they had me, but unfortunately due to allergies in the family, they made the very difficult decision to return me. I am a very affectionate and vocal boy who adores all my humans, and I’m especially great with children! I’m your typical young adult cat who loves to be by your side, with a slightly unhinged chaotic energy. I love to play with toys, indulging in catnip, and basking in the sunlight. I can be picked up and cuddled and my previous family even took me outside on a harness! I am a hefty boy, clocking in at an impressive 9kg! Apparently I need a diet??? I recovered great from my recent dental cleaning where I needed no extractions, and I am once again on my quest for a forever home. Ideally my future home is one where I am your one and only as I don’t like to share the spotlight, and can be a bit of a bully to the other cats.

My friends and I were a transplant from another rescue in Mississauga that was shutting down. I was a very shy and withdrawn girl when I first arrived. I found the best hiding spots to camp out in! Turns out humans aren’t that bad and they give the best head rubs! I’m now an extremely affectionate girl who loves attention - and I also enjoy belly rubs when the right situation presents itself. I’m still nervous in new environments and with new people, so patience will be very important. I’m relatively indifferent to toys and treats, and would much rather find a nice bed to lay in and I love to use my scratchers! When I was in for my dental work-up it was noted that something felt off in my abdomen. After some x-rays and ultrasounds, the vets suspect I have some sort of IBD/IBS. I was trialed on some medications that I have since done a very slow taper off of the past couple months. So far I’ve been completely symptom-free (my main issue was soft stool)! It’s possible I may never need to go back on medication again, or only when I have flare-ups, or it’s also possible it may be something I’ll need long term - only time and careful monitoring will tell. I’m otherwise healthy and while I have no teeth, I enjoy my kibble and wet food all the same. I’m fairly indifferent to other cats, and would do great either in a home with another friend, or to a nice quiet home by myself.

A palliative foster means that we provide supplies and vet care needed (as long as you use one of our partner vets, who are located in Markham), all we ask is that you provide our cat(s) with a loving home with lots of attention for the remainder of their life, or until it no longer works for you (or if you end up wanting to adopt!).

My friends and I were a transplant from another rescue in Mississauga that was shutting down. I was an extremely social and affectionate boy as soon as I arrived. I was quick to introduce myself and make friends with all the humans. I can be vocal at times when I want your attention, but I’m generally pretty good at keeping to myself. I love putting my paws up on you and reaching up at you with my paws to get your attention. I enjoy being held for short periods of time. I love comfy beds and finding the best spots to nap in. I also love playing with toys (human participation not required)! I’m not really food motivated, and thrive more on your affections. I was quite sick when I arrived, and was a frequent flier at the vet. I have chronic damage to my sinuses from frequent previous upper respiratory infections so I often sound or look congested at times. I have been on different rounds of different medications without much major improvement. My third eyelids have always been protruded and they suspect it’s related to my sinus issues. I have early stage kidney disease as well as lots of microscopic blood in my urine. Vets suspect it may be due to either interstitial cystitis or passing small crystals/kidney stones in my urine. I should be on a prescription urinary diet, and have as low stress of an environment as possible to eliminate any potential flare ups. I’m pretty indifferent to other animals (cat and dog), so I wouldn’t mind if you had a friend waiting for me, but I would also be happy to be your one and only!

I was found as one of the few remaining cats at a colony in Scarborough. The humans suspected I was a previously owned cat due to how outgoing and affectionate I am. However, I was unfixed, with no microchip, and had been living at this colony for several months with no one looking for me before I was finally brought indoors. I am an extremely affectionate, vocal and outgoing girl who knows no stranger when it comes to humans. I love to be picked up and cuddled while I purr away. I am extremely food motivated and love my treats and wet food. I like to be as close to you as possible at all times and can be a bit of a menace, so it’s best your home is cat-proof for your sake. I’m a bit of a diva and I do NOT like other cats so I will need to be your one and only.

I was found as one of the few remaining cats at a colony in Scarborough. The humans suspected I was a previously owned or dumped cat as I was un-neutered with an unregistered microchip and had been living there for over a year with no one looking for me before I was brought indoors. I can be a little shy when we first meet, but I am a very good boy who acclimates fast. I am extremely sweet and outgoing and I love all the peoples. I can be picked up and cuddled and I’m happy to sit in your lap for short periods of time. I do NOT like belly rubs (but I may once I get more comfy). I am extremely food motivated and I love to play with all the toys, especially wand toys and lasers! I am fairly low maintenance in that I don’t demand your attention all the time, and I’m happy to do my own thing if you’re busy. I am positive for both FIV and Feline Leukemia (FeLV). My FeLV is progressive, which means I’m at a greater risk of shedding the virus and developing FeLV related. The literature also indicates that I’m at 20% chance of living beyond 4 years from my diagnosis (but it’s possible it may be longer as the study itself is fairly recent). Currently the vets have no concern with my health. Regardless, it's important for my future home to monitor me closely and provide me with a home with low stress and good nutrition, and visits to the vet anytime I’m not feeling 100%. I get along great with other cats, and would be happy to either go to a home by myself, or with other FeLV+ cat(s). Also, I have bonus toes!

I was a very vocal boy (in a bad way) when I first arrived and didn’t want the humans getting close at all. I withdrew myself and spent much of my time hiding as far away from the humans as possible. Like many of my friends, I improved with time and patience. I’ve learned how to relax and now enjoy lounging around in comfy beds. I’m a fairly easy going cat and pretty good about keeping to myself when you’re too busy for me. I enjoy human attention and I’m happy to approach you for headbutts and treats. I am very food motivated and can sometimes get too excited and graze you with my teeth (I only have my bottom canines and incisors). I’m fairly indifferent to things like toys and catnip. I’m also slowly learning being picked up isn’t as horrifying as I originally thought. I’m very healthy for my age and extremely agile! I have the adorable Scottish fold ears but I am NOT a Scottish fold. I had a long history of ear mites/ear infections that became so itchy that this “cauliflower” ear is from years of self-trauma. My ears will always be a little itchy due to how it healed. I get along with other cats well enough, but it’s more so a tolerance thing. I’ll likely do great on my own in a patient household.

ADOPTED! 🥰
🧡Filet🥩
12 year old neutered male
Orange Tabby

We first learned about Filet and his friends from a social worker who reached out as the occupant of the home was entering long term care. For whatever reason, he was the only one that was left alone in a bathroom for who knows how long. Considering the absolute state of filth of said bathroom, it’s very possible he was alone in there for many, many years. This would also explain how absolutely terrified he was when he arrived. He was completely withdrawn and had the constant “deer in headlights” face and wanted absolutely nothing to do with us. He had severe dental disease which resulted in full mouth extractions, and we found that some of his front nails were grown sideways/backwards. We did x-rays and they showed no real abnormalities, so we’re unsure if it’s congenital or if he sustained trauma trying to dig himself out of his washroom. After several months of decompression and getting him caught up on his medical needs, we were then able to focus on exposing him to us and the other cats. It was clear very fast he did not understand how to “cat” or really understand…anything. He didn’t understand toys or treats and how to interact with the other cats at all. He was still extremely flighty around humans and was quick to scurry away whenever we got too close. He was able to learn a LOT through just observing everyone else, and has made great improvements. Filet is now a complete sweetheart who loves to be pet, and he especially loves to chew on your fingers - we don’t know why. He loves catnip and has even tried to play with a couple of toys. He loves the other cats, although his social cues can still use a bit of work because he can come on a bit strong, and doesn’t know when to back off. He loves treats and human food now, and he’s a big fan of chicken nuggets, and he’ll try to stick his head in the bag to steal one if you’d let him. There is obviously much more for him to learn, but we think he’ll make a great addition to someone’s family. He will definitely need some time to adjust to new environments and people. Ideally he would go to a home with one of his friends, or a home with another cat-savvy cat, although we suspect he may do okay with a cat-savvy human who’s willing to continue to work with him. Time and patience will be the most important.

Who are we?

We are a small group of committed volunteers with animal care and rescue experience. Many of us have jobs outside of this rescue (but not necessarily outside of animal care). We spend hours of our lives to make sure that we are doing what we can to make a difference.

We take cats that are abandoned or born in colonies that animal control for the area they are from does not wish to accept or keep. We have taken cats that other rescues cannot place due to location, age, colour, or quantity. We will take owner surrenders if other options available are unwilling to accept and owners have not been able to rehome. In short, we take in cats that have few to no other options, but only when we have space. There are dozens currently on the waitlist that we have committed a future placement if one is not found before that time.
