1987 Brown (Registered Bay), 87% NFQHA Certified
AQHA-UK Breed Show Winner, 1989 Best 2 Year Old Stallion
by Tuffy Dude (aka Waccabuc) out of Empirita Moonlight. Luke had been graded, and awarded the rank of BQHA Select Stallion, by the now defunct British Quarter Horse Association. That was during the period when he was owned by Shiela Fitzpatrick. After winning at the Breed Show on his first and

only time out,
Lunar Lucre (known at home as Luke) remained a working stock horse and stud horse until his retirement in 2009. At two years old, he was calmly carrying sheep on his back, along with John Goodliffe, on the sloping hills near Cowbridge. Lunar Lucre at home:
Luke lived a quiet life, and didn't like a lot of fuss. He was content in himself, and was easy in all ways. He could be kept in a field with a simple piece of string, and was always a gentleman with everyone, including his mares - especially the young or maiden mares. He especially loved palomino mares, and spent his last days with the stunning palomino mare, Codys Whizper Lace, who doted on him day and night. Luke was a kind of horse that seemed to be trying to make everything as easy as possible for his owners. He never failed me in anything I ever asked of him. He was my friend, my business partner, and a member of my family. I commend his soul to God, and have faith that he will be well cared for until I get there. He has earned his place in Heaven. This page is dedicated to his memory with enduring love.

If anyone has photos of Lunar Lucre babies - in tack, showing what they like to do, we would be grateful to see what they are up to these days! Thank you ...

Luke's last daughter is being prepared for sale this summer, if she finds the right home. One to two years old can be a difficult age for photograph as the horse goes through ungainly growth stages, but we think Lucy looks pretty good considering her prepubescent blues! Lucy is a half sister to Sonnywoods Blue Moon (Bonni).

Classic (At) black and tan coat, still commonly called "brown gene" is yet another misnomer. The function of At is to limit the spread of BLACK hairs to a black and tan pattern. It has nothing at all to do with actual BROWN hairs. When we actually discover the BROWN gene, it may even govern something quite different! :P

Has his Dad's pretty face

With FB being so popular, lots of folks who have Luke's babies have gotten in touch - and I have discovered that most of his "bay" foals have turned brown over the years. This offers an insight in to the brown gene - that like Gray, it can come slowly, and is easily misregistered. I feel sure the mealy muzzle is an important clue that the horse will turn brown over the years - even is he is quite light colored as a foal, as in the instance of TJ - below - also see photos of Buck, past and present.
