Snokomo Training Kennels owner Jim Moyer attended a Professional Dog Training Academy in Yonkers NY in 1978 At K-9 Patrol Dogs. Teaching Pet owners as well as Professional dog handlers to teach and train with a positive mind set as well as understanding the reality of dog behavior. Basic / Advanced obedience, Tracking / SAR (North American Search Dog Network), K-9 Utilization ( New York State S

heriffs Association), , AAC (auditory assistance canine), Police service dogs (North American Police Work Dog Association). Working with 4H members of all ages - including but not limited to mental / physical impairments and their dogs for 30 years (Ohio state Master 4H Leader Training), as well as Therapy dogs and Animal Evaluator ( Delta Society). Working with Humane Society / Animal shelters to better prepare pets for their new homes. Our goal is to have your FurryCanineFriends better understand their Human counterpart.

Happy New Year to all of our Members, , dog family, and friends! We wish you a wonderful 2024!

While winter has yet to make a lasting appearance, we're really looking forward to all this season has in store for our sled dog races.

We're happy to share our official race schedule which does feature some changes to what was previously announced.

Doty Dog Days of Winter Sled Dog Race and Festival 2024 has unfortunately been cancelled. With that weekend available and no snow in the extended forecast, our Gleason Race has been postponed to those dates.

Here’s the 2024 Race Schedule:

Three Bear Sled Dog Races - Land O Lakes, WI - Feb. 3 & 4
Doris Lovrine Memorial Sled Dog Race - Gleason, WI - Feb. 10 & 11
Willow Springs Round Barn Rally Dogsled Race - Wausau, WI - Feb. 17 & 18
Heal Creek Dog Dash - Rhinelander, WI - Feb. 24 & 25

While training on the Denali highway one of our teams was hit by a Snowmachine. Josiah, Isaac, and I had teams of 9, 10, and 12 dogs respectively. Josiah’s team was hit by a snowmachine traveling ~65mph in the opposite direction. Of the nine dogs in the team one was killed instantly, one had several broken legs and died within an hour, three had compound fractures or limbs nearly amputated by the impact, and the remaining four had minor injuries (by comparison). Josiah has some bruising and a cut, but is otherwise OK.

The three critical dogs are Whopper, Sigfried, and Houdini. Whopper has had his rear left leg amputated, but is otherwise stable. Sigfried has gone through surgery, is stable, and we are hopeful that he will keep his rear left leg. Houdini has a rear leg that needs to be amputated, but also has inflammation in his lungs that makes a surgery at this time very risky. We are monitoring him closely and he will be going into surgery as soon as advisable. All three have a long road to partial recovery in front of them and in Houdini’s case, with a major surgery still ahead, a positive outcome is far from guaranteed.

The snowmachiners did stop, but appeared to be quite intoxicated and were of little help.

Please do not drink and drive this weekend. And remember, there are other users on the trails.

Important update regarding the GLSDA Baldwin Derby: 4 & 6 will be sanctioned this time! No entry limit.

8-dog will not be sanctioned. It will go somewhere around 13-18 miles (TBD closer to race based on conditions).

Drivers meeting will be Friday night for this race. The draw will happen in person at the drivers meeting.
