Dawn and Finn are doing are doing so great!!! Command and motion transitions can be a little difficult and awkward at first, but if you keep practicing consistently, the transition will be very smooth and rewarding. It’s a great thinking strategy for your dog! Dawn and Finn are really getting the hang of it so today we added and practice the queue “middle” to our trading exercise. This dog is so smart and so willing to please! He has definitely been one of my favorites. Dawn is a great, strong pack leader, and that my friends makes all the difference in the world!!
I’m excited to see how this next week goes with his training.

Meet Willow!!! I have the pleasure of having this stunning Silver lad at my house for 10, YES; 10 whole days!!! I only take puppies if they have had their second round of vaccines. That’s when it’s safer for them to be around other dogs that have also been vaccinated.
I also only do puppies this young if they come to board training. It’s so much better if they have the daily consistency.

I am so happy that her owner is aware of the importance of good and balanced training😊she reached out before Willow even came home!
This is when training should begin. Imprinting good behavior at this age is crucial!!

Willow is doing so amazing! She is learning to ring the bell to go outside, she is sitting, staying(for short periods right now)and she is doing great with recall and crate training!!

You all know I’m biased when it comes to dogs, and generally prefer Golden Retrievers because of their temperaments and willingness to please, but this lab has an amazing demeanor or temperament! She reminds me of what Reid was like as a puppy!!!

I am excited to see how far we get in the 10 days that she is with me. Watch for updates🥰🥰

Keep on leading, you can do it😊

This is my girl Red. From day one she has been super submissive 😩 so much so, training her has been very difficult. I had to completely change the way I train when working with her. It’s a generic gene.
She has come a long way, but still after two years she will sometimes cower down if I ask her to sit, or if I ask her to lay down, she’ll run out away from the other dogs and myself and then lay down. I have never used a physical correction with her because of this.
Last year I started training her on antlers, and she is a completely different dog, for the most part. Dogs that demonstrate this submissive behavior can be frustrating for sure!! Giving her a job has built her confidence and trust in me as a leader, and in herself. She loves it!
The other day Chris was trying to get her to do something and she bolted and then acted like he was going to beat the heck out of her. We have never abused our animals. I have to own her behavior. I haven’t been working with her very much. I knew she needed to go do her job. So I put the other dogs away and worked with Red for a good hour or so.
I hid the elk antler all over the yard, in places she couldn’t see, and she did great. She tries really hard. This spring Dylan will take her to actually go looking for antlers, I’m confident she will find some. She is not a big dog, so it’s hard for her to bring them to me, and for the life of me I can not get her to alert with a bark, to save my life!!!! She’ll sit at the antler, but will not bark! I have done everything I know to do to try to get a bark out of her!!! Lol. If you are needing help with your dog, let’s work together.

Mannered Mutt spotlight!!! This week, I would like to say a little something about Willow!🥰
Willow and her owner Donna!!
Willow is a mixed breed around 8 months old. Poor Donna was beside herself with this pup. Willow really struggles with separation anxiety and has issues with jumping, pulling in the leash, and iver all being respectful.
Donna is an older lady and has been really struggling with Willow. I talked to Donna about getting a treadmill for Willow. Not only will it help Willow with being able to burn off much needed energy, but also help her with being mentally stimulated… More often than not dog develops poor behavior because they are not getting the mental stimulation that they need. The treadmill is a great tool for both!!! Not only do they get to walk/run and be physically exhausted, but they have to constantly stay focused by staying on the treadmill. It’s a win-win!! The result is a very mentally tired dog and physically tired dog!!!
We started out very slow. First just letting Willow be around the treadmill, feeding her treats on it before even turning it on. Then letting her hear it while Donna is on it, and when she’s not. The more exposure to it before getting her on it while it’s moving, the better.
Yesterday we were able to get her on it and getting her moving. Yes, she was nervous and uncertain. This is a very short video, but I helped Willow ease into walking by putting her keash up iver the handle and holding her under the belly. I very slowly released my holding pressure until she was walking on her own. If she started to get scared I would hold her up again. I was so proud of Willow!!!! This is a very big deal for her!! And so proud if Donna! She is really trying hard, and Willow is ALOT!!!!!
I know this is going to be a game changer for Williws behavior. It is going to help her immensely, which will in turn help correcting her other behavior issues a bit easier.
We got this Donna and Willow!!!😊😊😊

One on one sessions available
New class starting!!

Obedience classes will be starting up the first Sunday in January at the Eagles Hall and will be held every Sunday. I like to keep my classes smaller so please let me know if you’d like to sign up, class sizes will be limited.
In the classes you will learn the following:

•establishing yourself as leader of your pack (this is crucial)

•how to ask for calm/surrender

•respectful socializing

•you will learn how to teach your dog to sit, stay, lay down, come, leave it, respectful leash walking, how to correct poor behaviors such as jumping, nipping, running at the door when people come over, barking, chewing, separation
Anxiety, and resourse guarding issues.

If your furry friend has really bad behaviors, I would encourage you to schedule a one on one session prior to the starting of the obedience classes. Even though my classes are small it is difficult to work on certain behaviors in a group setting, and not fair to the other paying participants. I appreciate your understanding 😊

Six week course is 300.00. Starting time for this course is 1:00. Classes are typically an hour to an hours and a half.

I also have openings for one on one sessions. These are my favorite! We go over everything that you’d learn in class, and I can help you with certain behavior issues in greater detail😊but with no other distractions, These sessions typically last about 1.5 hours and it is 75.00

Please message me, call or text if you have questions or would like to get signed up! Thank you!!

The only downside of being a dog trainer and having the personality/character that I do, is I fall in love with all the dogs I work with🤪😩I have fallen in Love with Lokie!! He has a little Australian shepherd, Bernise Mountain dog, and if I remember correctly they aren’t sure of what else!! Lol
Lokie reminds me a lot of Ellie, and makes me sure miss her❤️
Lokie came to me last Tuesday needing help with basic obedience and had some bad manners that really needed corrected. I am so proud of him! He now sits, stays, lays-down, walks lovely on and off leash! And Doesn’t jump anymore!! He knows “back” like a champ and “kennel” as well! ( I say “back” when walking or doing something tha requires them to be behind me or at my hip, they do not go past my hip)
I am very excited to show his humans how far he has come. He gets to go home tomorrow 🥲
When a dog trusts you to lead and guide it, not only will he respect you always, but he will love and protect you as well🤗

Cora is a beautiful AKC Golden Retriever with a personality and demeanor much like Reid’s! I believe this is going to be a litter you will not want to pass up on if your looking to add to the family!!
Included in the purchase of a puppy is one month of free training, if we’re friends or you follow Jody’s Mannered Mutts

Basic obedience training should start at 8 weeks, either with the breeder or you. Nothing crazy, just recall and sit/stay.

I have a few spots open for this Sundays obedience class! If you are having issues with your furry family member on Sit/stay, down, recall, or leash walking respectfully, please sign up! I’ll demonstrate how to calmly, but with assertiveness, correct these behaviors, and then help YOU become the leader of your pack and gain a respectful and trusting relationship with your dog🥰
Class size is limited, so please reach out if you are interested. Class sessions start in the evening at 6:00, and are 50.00. The sessions usually go about 1.5 hours.

I went for a rainy ride this morning, I enjoy riding in a light rain😊 it’s calming.
No matter what I’m doing, if my pack is with me we are working on good manners. Even if your dog/dogs are well behaved, never stop working with them. For instance, if your in the kitchen, ask your dog to sit and stay, then leave that area, go out of their sight. Through a load of laundry in the washer or something. If they get up, take them back to where you asked them to sit and stay. Repeat, until they do what you have asked. When they have done it without having to correct, then give them a good reward, calmly!
This is also a great exercise for a dog that has separation issues! They will become better and better, because they trust you to come back. The more you ask for simple things the better behaved your dog will become. Then you can change things up and add more thought provoking skills, while still working on the basics. It’s fun!
My next obedience class is this Sunday at 6 pm.
Class size is limited, so if you’d like to sign up please message, text, or call 208-507-0338. The sooner the better!

I love everything about this photo, and I’m going to tell you why.
Kylea is 16 and she and her dog Hiccupcame to my obedience class a couple weeks ago. Hiccup was ALOT! Kylea, bless her heart, came not knowing what to expect, not knowing me or anyone. She was very quiet and not confident in handling Hiccup. I really tried to encourage her to dig deep, find the confidence that I knew she had, and own it with pride!!! By the end of class Kylea was cueing and correcting Hiccup like a freaking BOSS!!!!! She is doing everything on point in this picture! She is not looking at her dog, she has a short but loose leash, and is correcting with her heel to push Hiccup “back” and be a respectful walking dog.
I can not tell you how proud and excited I was when I saw this picture!!! (Her mom said I could use it🥰)
Dog training is more about training the handler how to train/rehabilitate their dog. As a handler, your energy is everything. With powerful dogs, it’s crucial.
Our next obedience class is June 10th at 6:30 pm. I will work with you on becoming a confident pack leader that will be able to ask and cue/correct your dog.
We will work on
Calm/surrender (sit/stay)
Down
Recall
Respectful leash walking.
If time allows and dogs are not exhausted we will touch on behavior issues such as
Jumping
Biting/nipping
Cost is 50.00. If you’ve been to class before you get a discount.
Please message me, text, or call to sign up. 208-507-0338

15/05/2023

The questions I get asked the most are, “what is the difference between a group obedience class and a one on one in home visit?” And “do you only train Golden Retrievers?”😀
I’ll answer the easy question first… NO, I do not just train Goldens. I just love everything about them!! I train all breeds.
Im going to give you the very extended answer to the first question!!
To me the most important thing to form with an animal is connection, communication, and a relationship. We can do this by learning about a dogs energy, state of mind, and his/her activities.
Besides the obvious, being in a group setting with other dogs and their handlers, a group class is a good way to socialize your dog and touch up on basic behavior/obedience.
In home visits ( my home or yours) are more detailed. By that I mean I am able to observe the dog and it’s humans in their natural space, and dig deeper in to the dog’s psychological state that is causing “bad” behavior.
I’ve said it before and I will say it many times; a dog is the product of of it’s environment. I’m not saying that to be mean, I am not saying if you have a misbehaving dog, then your a “bad” owner. It’s almost always the opposite! Your too loving and giving affection and attention at the wrong times.
Dogs are “in the moment” species, they don’t think about yesterday. Dogs natural state of communication and learning is through their nose, their eyes, and their ears.
As humans we learn the opposite way; ear(sound, words) sight(body language, gestures) We tend to train dogs the way WE learn. We skip energy, philosophy, and activity, which is what allows you to gain trust, respect, and love.
This is going to come as a shock to some, I know, but dogs are not human❤️ they are animals!!!🤪😉😉 So when we change the way a dog learns naturally, in a sense we are altering their reality and in turn that changes the way your dog learns about “their” world.
So when I go to a home I have more time to help the owner learn a little about dog psychology, I have more time to teach the owner how to guide their dog with good correction, and energy, and I am able to train the owner to train/rehabilitate their dog/dogs😊
Remember, a tired dog is a happy dog🥰

Happy Friday Friends!! I am posting Group Obedience classes for June and July, and I am offering dog 4-H classes.

REGULAR OBEDIENCE CLASSES (handler must be 15 years old or older)
Class fee is 50.00
Start time is 10:00 am
JUNE 3rd
JUNE 17th
JULY 8th.
JULY 22nd

4-H DOG AND GUIDE CLASS
FIRST DAY- June 10th
START~10:00
FEE~85.00
Because of the handlers age, time required, and skills the handler and dog must learn, this is a VERY LIMITED CLASS SIZE. A parent or guardian must attend unless we have made other arrangements.
I will offer the class twice a week (day and time will scheduled after I find out what works best for parents) it will be twice a week, every week, until August. There will be 19 days of training. You can come to one class or sign up for all 19. If you wish to sign up for all days, there is a significant discount.
Dogs in 4-H are required to have certain skills and preform those skills a certain way, first time asked. This takes time, patience, and consistency! Because of the handlers age, this takes time, patience, and CONSISTENCY, did I mention PATIENCE😉
not only am I training your dog, but I am training your child to train your dog, and depending on what your dog already knows is a huge factor, depending on how well your child can listen to instruction is also a huge factor. I will be a little intense, but it will be fun! And you’ll have a fantastically obedient dog when it’s all said and done!!!😊😊🥰
If you’d like to sign up or visit more about this please message me or call 208-507-0338
