I haven't posted in a while, and I wanted to share why.

Back in January, Merit was diagnosed with a very advanced stage of cancer in her kidneys. The prognosis was bad. Unfortunately, she passed away in early March. Grief is a funny thing, and I was (still am) in a not-so-great place. She was my best friend. My absolute everything. Life has been hard without her.

While I'm still grieving, rest assured, I am still in business and cat sitting. If you are looking for services, please reach out!

Have you ever wondered where your cat came from? Merit was an enigma to me when I first got her. She was in a shelter for 5 years and no one could tell me her history. Then I found Basepaws. They are a Cat DNA Company. You provide a sample of your cat's DNA through saliva or hair. They take it and do all the sciency stuff. After, they send a nice rolled-up report. If you're interested, look into buying a kit!

PART 2: Where did my business name come from?

Midge was adopted in October of 2019 from KC Pet Project. I was following their social channels and I kept seeing her face pop up. At the time, she was only about a year old and was the mom to 12 kittens. My coworkers heard me talk about her every day because I was in love. Then one Friday, I decided I would go visit her at lunch. I went to the old KC Pet Project building and was told she was moved to the Zona Rosa location. I was so sad because I truly believed someone would take her before I could get up there. I left work early that day and when I got the shelter, she was sleeping, took one look at me and meowed.

Midge is a very active kitty and the complete opposite of Merit. We lovingly call her “trash cat” for her ability to get into anything and everything. She is the epitome of the ninja cat, showcasing new hijinks daily.

I'm not going to lie, it was rough the first couple of months. Merit did not take well to a new creature in the house. But they seem to be getting along now. I love her, even when she destroys my things.

PART 1: Where did my business name come from?

Merit is my OG s Catie’s OG kitty. I adopted her in 2014, my senior year of college. She had been at the shelter for 5 years. I still can't wrap my head around why, because she is the best companion and my best friend. We've been through multiple moves, life changes, and more. Merit is my medical problem child and has been through small-cell lymphoma, a rare fungal disease (Histoplasmosis), and eye/ear issues. I was a frequent flyer at MissionVet Specialty & Emergency for years, learned how to give subcutaneous fluids and IV's, and charged my credit card multiple times. But I would do anything for this little girl. She's 13 now and in the prime of her life.

Fun Fact: Merit was named after my favorite book series (cause I'm a nerd)called Chicagoland Vampires by Chloe Neill.
