This is true for both good and bad behaviors! If you see your dog doing something you DO like, reward them, and they’ll be more likely to offer that behavior again in the future. If your dog is able to keep practicing a behavior you DON’T like, such as counter surfing, they’ll be more likely to continue rehearsing it in the future. Dogs respond best to praise- food, toys, affection, etc, making positive reinforcement your most powerful tool for shaping or changing behavior 🤩🙌🏼

Tails & Trails has discontinued their group hikes for the 2024 season. Moving forward we will only provide 1:1 or pups from the same household hiking excursions 🐾⛰️ What does this mean? It means a more customizable experience for your pup(s) while on the trail 🤎 This also allows us to open our doors to our furriends who do not prefer the company of others. Reactive dogs deserve to experience the mountains too🫶🏻🐾

February is Dog Training Education Month 🥳 I always encourage dog guardians to seek out positive reinforcement materials and trainers. Dogs, like people, respond better to positive techniques and tools. Training your pup(s) will make you a more confident pet owner and will allow you to do more activities with your pup! 💕 Training helps stimulate their minds and teaches them to trust you🐾 Not all problems can be solved with training alone. If you need more support, consider scheduling a consultation with a Behavior Specialty Clinic. A behavior consultation with a board certified veterinary behaviorist is the absolute top tier of help you can seek for your pet’s behavior problems.

✨Sniffaris✨ To us, they can be quite boring and even frustrating at times because our pups are stopping every few steps to sniff something while we try to get them engaged in some exercise. Let them sniff! Sniffing to them is the equivalent to us reading the newspaper 🗞️ It gives them all the deets on where they are and whose been in the area 🐿️🦮🚶🏽‍♂️🐈‍⬛ Not only does it give them information on the surrounding area but can help aid them to relax and destress. It's great mental stimulation and makes them think 💭 which can help them feel fulfilled and satisfied! Did you know 20 mins of sniffing is equivalent to an hour walk in terms of enrichment? Grab a leash and go on a sniffari!
