**Foster Friday Spotlight!** 🌟

Just like humans, dogs, and cats, guinea pigs can develop arthritis too. 🐹💔 Meet Jack, one of our sweetest little residents who’s been battling severe arthritis. After trying different treatments, we’re happy to share that Jack’s pain is finally under control, thanks to the right medicine! 🌿💊

Due to his medical condition, Jack will be staying with us at the rescue for the rest of his life, where we can ensure he gets all the love, care, and comfort he deserves. 💕

If you’d like to support Jack and other special needs guinea pigs like him, please consider donating to help cover his ongoing care. Thank you for being a part of Jack’s journey! 🐾

🚨 **WARNING: HOT CARS CAN BE DEADLY FOR PETS!** 🚨
🐕 🐈‍⬛ 🦜 🐹 🐰 🐢

☀️Summer is winding down, but the heat isn’t!! 🥵 We’re still experiencing some of the hottest temps this year.🌡️

Leaving your pet in a parked car, even for a few minutes, can be life-threatening. Temperatures inside cars can rise quickly, leading to heatstroke or worse. Remember, *cracking the window is not enough.*

If you can’t bring your pet inside, it’s best to leave them at home where they’re safe! 🐾

✨Willie and Waylon✨ have been at the rescue for several months now and are ready to mosey into a loving home where they can hang their hats. 🤠

If you'd like to meet these handsome boys, and any of our many available guinea pigs, visit our website to complete an adoption application!
Hey there howdy!
These boys are ready to sing you their favorite songs including "why is my pellet dish empty", "I heard the refrigerator open" and their favorite "don't crinkle the bag if you don't want to share."
The boys need an experienced family with patience. They are still learning good piggy manners and are not a good choice for children at this time. They have an older roommate so may be a good choice to join an existing herd. They will need a spacious cage with plenty of hideouts and toys to keep them busy. Waylon is 1, Willie is 2

Tiny Tim has been adopted twice from us and surrendered back to KGPR as his older companion passed. Tiny Tim would love some stability and a family who loves him for the sweet boy he is. Lavern was diagnosed with ovarian cysts and had an ovariectomy. Outgoing, people friendly and treat oriented Tiny Tim and Lavern are a perfect match. They are a great choice for first time owners with children or an experienced piggy family.

Following complicated surgery to remove a reproductive mass, Cece went into GI stasis. Dr. Richie at Lange Animal Hospital believed this could be a result of the extensive surgery. With new meds and supportive care, Cece began to show improvement. However, earlier this week she started to lose the use of her back legs. X-rays showed a fracture at her hip was the root of the problem. Previous radiographs showed one femur was a little short in comparison, most likely a congenital deformity. The vets assured us nothing could have been done to prevent this injury. It most likely took one wrong move to create the break. (similar to us rolling an ankle or tweaking a knee). The fracture needed surgery to heal properly and Cece was in no condition for a 2nd surgery. To end the pain, the difficult decision was made to help her cross the rainbow bridge. She was definitely a fighter til the end.

We thank you for your continued support and care during this difficult time. ❤️

Cece was scheduled for a routine ovariectomy on August 7 as her ultasound indicated multiple ovarian cyst. in addition to both ovaires, Dr. Ritchie of Lange Animal Hosptal also removed her uterine horn as she had a mass. The mass was sent to pathlogy for analysis. Leiomyoma (cancer) was detected. The mass was completely excised per the pathologst.

Due to excessive manipulation of her intestines during surgery she developed severe stasis 18 hours after surgery. She is being syringe fed and is on heavy pain medication. She received fluids and 2 injections, one for pain and one to help her angry intestines. She has a long road ahead. Please join us in wishing her a speedy recovery

Everyone needs a little Sunshine in their lives. Sunshine is a petite girl who had at least 2 back to back litters before she came into the rescue. Dr. Sarah of Lange Animal Hospital was concerned for her well being as she was so young to have 2 litters. To prevent future issues, Sunshine had an ovariectomy. She has recovered from her surgery and is ready to meet the a lovely boy pig to share her space with. Do you have a lonely boar in need of a friend? Sunshine would love to meet him.

Did someone say treats? 🍪 Charlotte and Choco are all ears. Their foster mom has dubbed them the cookie monsters as they've never met a treat they don't love. 💕
Charlotte and Choco spent the first 2 years of their life as neighbors after their previous owner found they accidentally purchased a male and female from a pet store. Charlotte had ovarian cysts and underwent ovariectomy surgery. After she was fully recovered, Charlotte and Choco have been inseparable ever since!

Our Cookie Monster couple will be arriving at Agri Feed Pet Supply tomorrow. They can’t wait for you to come by and meet them. 🥰

We want to share a story about how important proper veterinary care is when it comes to guinea pigs.

Cashmere was severely biten by his brother, Mink. The wound quickly became infected and Cashmere was rushed to the vet for evaluation and care. The pictures shown in the comments are of the progression of healing. Cashmere is feeling much better and we are hopeful he can rejoin his brother.

We encourage you to ALWAYS seek veterinary care immediately if you find a wound on your guinea pig. It’s crucial that the wound is properly cleaned and the right type of antibiotics are administered, as these type of things can get very bad, very quickly.

After an altercation between guinea pigs it’s important to inspect them for wounds, keep any wounds clean, and watch them closely. Often a guinea pig bite will cause a puncture hole. Puncture wounds are particularly susceptible to infection because bacteria gets down in the hole and grows. If a bite is severe or looks like a puncture, consider taking your guinea pig to the vet to get on some preventative antibiotics to head off a painful open wound such as the one Cashmere experienced.

🏝️ Jack & Cece 🏝️

Jack was unable to bond with another male piggy. He was neutered and found companionship in Cece. Cece was raised as an only piggy and was overjoyed to find she was not the only piggy in the world. They've been busy helping baby girl pigs that come into the rescue learn how to properly “be a guinea pig" and are now looking for a home of their very own. They’d love a place with plenty of space to lounge and share veggies. They’d also like to show you how well they can beg for treats. Jack is about 3 years old, and Cece is 2 years old.

If you’re interested in meeting this adorable pair, please visit our website and fill out an adoption application.

Wishing a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to KGPR director, Peggy!

Countless piggies needing TLC have passed through her home. She gives so much of herself to the pigs in their time of need as she rehabilitates them and helps them find their forever homes.

We are grateful for her guidance and dedication. Join us in wishing Peggy a very happy birthday in the comments.

It is with great sadness that we inform you of Ivy’s passing. After Dr Sarah began Ivy’s surgery, she realized the ovarian cyst grew since the last ultrasound and she spotted internal bleeding and several places with cancer. The surgery was over as soon as it began. Dr Sarah had Ivy resting comfortably at Lange Animal Hospital until KGPR Director Peggy could come into the office to review all options for Ivy. It was decided that the best option was to let Ivy cross over the rainbow bridge before her health could deteriorate anymore. Ivy passed peacefully with Peggy and Dr Sarah by her side feeling the all the love that the rescue has shown her.

We thank you for your continued support and the love you have shown for Ivy.
