✨Gorgeous Gravy is ready for her modeling career!✨

Check out these glamor shots of Gravy, captured by one of our amazing volunteers! Somehow, this sweet and sassy queen is STILL waiting for her forever home — could it be yours?

Rescued in the fall from Swissvale after popping out babies all her short life, Gravy is totally thriving. The stress of street life likely led to her Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease, but with a proper diet and prescription food, she’s had zero issues and is a happy, healthy girl.

Gravy is just 2-years-old and would love to be the queen of the castle, but she can coexist with other calm, cat-friendly kitties. However, dogs are a big no for her!

Come meet this gorgeous lady at the Waterfront (Homestead) Petco Adoption Center and see if she’s the purrfect match for you! Apply to adopt today!

Meet Junk Mail & Beer Bottle!

These two adorable sisters had a rough start in life—they were rescued from a recycling bin in the city! Now safe and thriving, they’re ready to find their forever home together.

Junk Mail (white spot) is a cuddly, outgoing lovebug who adores playing with toys and snuggling up with her humans. Beer Bottle (all black) is a bit more reserved, but with her sister by her side, she gains the confidence to explore and play! Their bond is unbreakable, and they’d love nothing more than to stay together in a home filled with love, toys, and cozy spots for naps.

Junk Mail and Beer Bottle are about 4 months old, spayed, vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed, microchipped and tested FIV/FeLV negative.

Meet Bruno & Toby – The Ultimate Senior Duo!

Bruno and Toby are a bonded pair of senior brothers who are as sweet as they come! These two lovebugs thrive on attention and cuddles, always wanting to be near their people. When they’re not wrestling or playing, you’ll find them curled up together, enjoying each other’s company.

Toby (orange) is the chatty one, especially when it’s mealtime! He adores his foster parents and will happily snuggle up next to them. He’s also got a soft spot for dogs—he’s even been known to boop noses with his canine friend! Bruno (grey) is the more independent and adventurous of the two. He loves to explore, jump on counters, and greet every visitor like an old friend. Both boys are laser pointer fanatics and highly food-motivated—they’ll even sit for a treat!

These brothers were originally rescued from a home with many cats after their owner passed away. After receiving much-needed medical care—including a full-mouth dental for Toby—they found a home but were returned due to a child’s allergies. They were adopted again but came back recently, having not received any vet care in their time away. Now, Toby is on a special C/D diet for feline lower urinary tract disease, and Bruno receives an asthma injection every three months.

Despite their journey, Bruno and Toby are still loving, playful, and eager to find their true forever home.

Toby and Bruno are about 9.5 years old, neutered, vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed, microchipped, and tested FIV/FeLV negative.

🚨 Urgent: We Need Fosters! 🚨

This week, we started helping a dedicated caretaker with a cat colony in Carrick. She’s already fixed a few and brought two inside, but there are still several left who need our help!

Most of these cats are super friendly—including a bonded pair of brothers and 3-4 others, all around a year old. We’d love to find foster homes for every one of them!

The street they’re on isn’t a main road, but cars speed through — plus, we never return friendly cats to the streets!

Can you open your home to a foster? You provide the safe, temporary space—we cover all basic supplies and support!

Join our incredible foster network and help save a life today — we can’t do it without yinz!

Meet Biscotti. Aka Scotty, aka Baby-Man. Rescued from the streets, he is the sweetest, most snuggly brown tabby you’ll ever meet! This handsome young guy has big, bright green eyes that will melt your heart, and a coat so soft you won’t want to stop petting him. He’s a little on the shy side at first, but once he warms up to you, he’s a total mush!

Biscotti is a playful, curious cat who loves to explore and chase after toys, but he’s also all about the cuddles. He’s not so sure about laps yet, but he loves to snuggle on the couch. This boy is a true purr machine! His patience and tolerance make him a delight to have around, and his silly antics are sure to bring some extra joy into your life.

Biscotti is about a year old, neutered, vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed, microchipped, and tested FIV/FeLV negative.

Meet Mr. Man. This 17-pound chonk was TNR’d by a good Samaritan last fall. Seeing how friendly he was, she reached out to us for help bringing him indoors last month and now he’s ready for his forever home.

Mr. Mahon, a.k.a. solstice, a.k.a. Saul, a.k.a. soul sister, is a Big Perfect Boy. He loves face skritches, scratches, and pets. He is quick not just to allow but also to ask for such warm interaction. As you get to know him, he’ll open his whole belly to you and insist on kitteh massages all over. While he really appreciates physical affection, Mr. Mahon is not needy. He rarely gives more than a light swap if he feels you’ve gone too far. Oh, and he never ever holds a grudge!

Mr. Man integrated bravely and thoughtfully. He’s very good at reading a room and is a quick study. He will take more time around other animals, particularly dogs, though he’s proven he can do it—and without a grudge.

Sol loves his kibble. LOVES IT. He doesn’t care what kind. He wants nothing to do with anything wet. He once ate some frisky shreds. Once. Don’t bother with cans, don’t bother with pouches, don’t bother with soups. He will eat treats! But he doesn’t need many because he has a strong relationship with Kibble. He has started to eat raw freeze-dried toppers. Given this love affair, we suggest using an automatic feeder.

He’s quite fit - a brick house really- and keeping that up will be great. Plus, you know, the kibble thing. Mr. Mahon just started really actively playing! He loves the wand with feathers on it in particular. Think hunting when you play with him and it will be marvelous.

Mr. Mahon loves the scratchers! And given how much he likes cuddles, having a scratcher around is key.

It’s becoming clear that Mr. Mahon is very happy to have alone time, but more and more he chooses fully chill out in shared spaces. Mr. Man is basically perfect.

Mr. Man is about 2 years old, neutered, vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed, microchipped and tested FIV+ and FeLV negative.

🏠 Socialization Fosters Needed!

Just before the polar vortex, we rescued two cats from South Oakland after their feeder and source of shelter moved away. The first is a fluffy orange boy we TNR’d a few years ago, who has recently started allowing pets and even purring! Though he’s still spooked indoors, we’re confident he’ll quickly learn the joys of being a house cat. The second is an 11-year-old black female who has spent nearly a decade relying on the feeder’s outdoor shelters. While she doesn’t allow pets yet, she has meowed at us, doesn’t hiss or growl, and seems cautiously curious about people. With time, love, and patience, we believe she could adjust to indoor life and become a wonderful companion.

These two cats don’t need to be fostered together, but both would benefit greatly from understanding and patient fosters to help them transition. Socializing semi-feral cats is no easy task, but it’s one of the most rewarding experiences. Watching a once-nervous feral cat blossom into a loving house cat is truly magical.

We provide everything you’ll need, including supplies, ongoing support, and a detailed guide we’ve created for fostering semi-feral cats. All you need to provide is a safe space, love, and patience to help them feel secure and loved.

If you think you have what it takes to help these special cats, apply to foster today and be part of their transformation!

It is with heavy hearts that we share heartbreaking news.

Brown Paper Bag, one of the trio of kittens we rescued from a recycling bin in Arlington, passed away in a tragic accident yesterday.

His foster noticed he had been missing since the previous night and, after an exhaustive search, feared he had escaped. Tragically, they found him in a sealed container used for litter. In a rare and devastating accident, he had managed to open the latch, crawl inside, and become trapped. Suffocation can happen in minutes, with little to no time to intervene.

The unimaginable loss of Brown Paper Bag reminds us how curiosity, one of the most lovable traits in our cats, can sometimes lead to unexpected and life-threatening accidents. These accidents are incredibly rare, and there are many things in the home that can present danger to your pets without even realizing.

In Brown Paper Bag’s memory, let’s take steps to minimize household risks:
1. Secure containers: Use pet-proof bins and store them in areas pets can’t access.
2. Cut or crush packaging: Snip or flatten cans, treat bags, and plastic tubs to prevent seals or traps.
3. Store packaging safely: Keep food packaging and bags well out of reach.
4. Dispose of waste properly: Ensure litter and other waste are safely sealed and discarded.

Other common household dangers include:
- Toxic plants like lilies, pothos, and snake plants
- Wires and exposed cords
- Candles, essential oil diffusers and salt lamps
- Medications, and human foods
- Window blind cords
- Open toilet bowls

While it’s impossible to eliminate every potential hazard, small changes can make a big difference.

While nothing can ease the pain of losing Brown Paper Bag to such a freak and tragic accident, we hope his story raises awareness and prevents similar tragedies.

Rest easy, sweet Brown Paper Bag. You were so loved and will never be forgotten.

🚨 URGENT: Jazz & Josie Need Your Help! 🚨

Jazz (dilute tortie) and Josie (calico) have been with us for a while, learning that life with humans isn’t so scary. Rescued as feral teenagers from Shadyside, these shy yet playful siblings have made great progress.

Sadly, their foster home can no longer keep them, and they need a new place to go ASAP to avoid losing the socialization progress they’ve worked so hard to achieve.

Jazz is more outgoing than Josie but both are is starting to enjoy human attention, and even have recently allowed gentle pets! They love laser pointers, toys, and their big cat tree, and when playtime is over, they cuddle up together or enjoy the view from a sunny window.

We’re looking for a forever home ready to help them blossom into the amazing cats they’re meant to be or a long-term foster willing to continue building their trust.

They’ve come so far, and we don’t want them to regress. Can you open your heart and home to Jazz & Josie?

Please share—these sweet siblings deserve a chance to thrive!

‼️SOS — Help Feed the Petco Kitties!‼️

We’ve been holding off on making this post, but after nearly two years of incredible support, Petco is no longer able to provide supplies for our Adoption Room. Unfortunately, a previous store manager made commitments that were not approved by Petco Love, which has resulted in the loss of essential items like wet and dry food, treats, potty pads, L-lysine, probiotics, litter, toys, and enrichment supplies.

This has been a challenging setback, but thanks to donations, we’ve managed to stay afloat so far. The new store manager has been incredibly kind, pushing single cans of food and litter sales to help us get by. However, we are now in urgent need of dry food. Breadstick, our resident charmer, is counting on you— she’s practically begging for your help!

To make it easier, we’ve created a dedicated Amazon Wishlist just for the Petco kitties. Any items purchased through this link (also in our bio) will go directly to our Petco Volunteer Coordinator to ensure they’re used solely for the cats in the Adoption Room.

This unexpected expense is a big one so we’re asking for your support to help us stock up and keep these kitties happy and cared for. Every item makes a difference!

Click the link below (also in bio) to send a little love their way. Thank you so much for being part of our mission to give these cats the best shot at finding their forever homes! ❤️

As 2024 Comes to a Close…

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to every single person who made this year possible — from our incredible team and volunteers to our supporters, donors, followers, and everyone in between. None of this would happen without you.

This year, 114 cats and kittens came through our rescue. We celebrated exactly 100 adoptions and completed 25 TNRs (listen, yinz know we aren’t too good at the “R” part 🤣).

While our numbers may have been lower than years past, 2024 brought us so many incredible stories — Rita, who underwent life-saving heart surgery. Grimace and M**o, who conquered life after leg amputations. Jack, a TNR who thrived after an eye removal… and countless others who inspired us every step of the way.

But alongside those triumphs, we faced devastating losses. Cricket, Rusty, Tank, Riley Lewis, Max, Juju, and Francis (Peanut Butter) left us too soon. Their stories remind us how fragile life is and just how vital our work continues to be. While heartbreak is inevitable, the comfort, love, and warmth we’re able to provide in their final moments is a gift we’re so honored to give.

Looking ahead to 2025, we know this work will bring more joy and more heartbreak, as it always does. We know we can’t save them all—but we’ll keep saving lives, one cat at a time, with everything we’ve got.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank yinz for being part of this journey over the last five years. We can’t wait for year six! Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year! ❤️

We are gutted to share that Francis (aka Peanut Butter) passed away in the arms of his foster family last night.

In recent weeks, Francis seemed to be thriving—eating well (and fancy!), integrating beautifully into his foster home, and, for the first time in years, living pain-free. But heartbreakingly, he declined suddenly last night, bleeding profusely from his mouth. The ER vet determined that his cancer had likely destroyed vital blood vessels, making survival impossible despite any treatment.

We are so grateful to his first fosters Ben and Cedar and later Sabrina and Ted for opening their home and hearts to this sweet boy. They shared: “He was such a loving, sweet, funny guy. Surprisingly spunky—very tail-up, underfoot, nebby behavior. He liked to be spooned in bed.”

While Francis finally experienced love and comfort, his death is a direct result of years of neglect. For 15 years, those responsible for his care provided food but failed to get him essential veterinary treatment. Under Pennsylvania law (Libre’s Law), providing food assumes responsibility for an animal’s overall care, including “necessary vet care.” Sadly, this wasn’t the case for Francis, and by the time we intervened, it was too late. Had his medical issues been addressed sooner, he might have avoided cancer altogether—or received treatment early enough to survive it.

Our hearts ache knowing that Francis spent almost his entire life without someone truly in his corner. We think about the many hospice cats we have like him— Riley Lewis, Lemon Drop, Mango, and more—medicalky neglected for years, only to find love at the very end. What if we could have cared for them their entire lives? For Francis, there’s no doubt his story would have had a different ending.

We hope those who neglected him think about the consequences of their inaction. Francis deserved better.

Rest peacefully, sweet Francis. You were deeply loved in your final weeks, and your memory will stay with us always.

🎄Merry Christmas from all of us at Oakland TNR Coalition!🎄

We hope you and your furry family are having a day filled with love, joy, and plenty of cuddles. ❤️💚

Feeling extra generous this special day? Our kitties would love some gifts from our wishlist! Thanks to yinz, we’re pretty stocked upon wet food from our last plea—but we’re now down to just one bag of adult dry food.

As always, we’re so grateful for the love and support from our incredible community. Thank you for making all of this possible!

It’s official, Mojo found his forever home! 🥳

Many of you remember this sweet boy and his late sister Juju. Originally adopted from the local Pittsburgh shelter to a student living in the dorms, they were dumped near Panther Hollow in Schenley Park in May. After months of struggling outside, the pair was found separately a few days apart in August, both in heartbreaking condition.

After just a few days post reunion, Juju’s fight ended tragically due to a combination of starvation, infection and the harshness of life outside. Mojo, weighing just 7.5 lbs and battling an infection as well, thankfully hung on. And thanks to some TLC, meds, and his fighting spirit, Mojo made a full recovery. Today, he’s a thriving, healthy 14 lbs!

Though we’ll always miss Juju, we know she’d be so proud of her brother. Wherever she is, we just know her spirit made this happy ending possible. Mojo now has a family who will love and protect him for the rest of his life—a gift that brings us all so much joy, right before Christmas!

Congrats Alea and Dennis and happiest tails, Mojo!

Meet Trash Can! Rescued from South Oakland as a semi-feral kitten, this orange boy has opened up into the most loving and cuddly cat.

Trash Can’s excitement when you walk into a room will make you feel special and loved. He's a very curious cat that gets along with other cats very well and would like to have some cat siblings for him to play with!

As soon as you start petting him, he will purr so loud the entire room could hear him! He is so fluffy, and absolutely LOVES food, treats and his water fountain. His favorite toys are interactive toys that make him think, like puzzles! This boy will bring such a fun, loving presence to any home looking to add another feline to their family.

Trash Can is 7 months old, neutered, vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed, microchipped, and tested FIV/FeLV negative.

Meet Jazz and Josie!

Jazz (the dilute tortie) and Josie (the calico) are two shy yet playful siblings rescued as feral teenagers from Shadyside. With no safe place to return, they were given the chance to learn that life with humans can be pretty great.

Jazz is the braver of the two and is slowly warming up to human attention, while Josie has a cautious side. Recently, she let a gentle hand give to her pets! Despite their shyness, these two absolutely light up when it’s playtime. Laser pointers, toys of all kinds, and their big cat tree bring out their curious, silly sides.

When they’re not chasing toys or each other, you can find them cuddling together on a chair or perched at the window, enjoying the view. Jazz and Josie are looking for a patient, loving home where they can continue building trust and blossoming into the amazing cats they’re meant to be. Could that be with you?

Jazz & Josie are about a year and a half, spayed, vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed, microchipped, and tested FIV/FeLV negative.

How it started

Our journey began with Lydia Swanson, who spent her time volunteering at the Scratching Post - Lewisburg Cat Cafeand the Lycoming County SPCA. She first discovered a small colony of eight cats in Oakland less than a half mile from the core of the University of Pittsburgh's campus. With advice from her local organization, Cherished Cats Rescue Alliance, she began an interesting journey into TNR, taking care of that colony as well as a 45 cat colony.

Lydia then met fellow cat lover, Elizabeth Constantino, who had recently happened upon a litter of five in the backyard of her Oakland residence. Four were returned to mom, leaving her to bottle-raise the fifth, abandoned kitten. With newly opened eyes to the reality the ever-growing population of feral cats, the two founded Oakland TNR Coalition, focused on the scientifically proven humane method: Trap, Neuter, Release.

Today, our mission is to team up with the local residents of Oakland, Pittsburgh to work on population reduction, vetting, and homing of the feral/stray/homeless cats in the community. We hope that you will continue to follow our journey and support us!
