A special memorial for a very special and beloved Chihuahua friend, Hugo. 🐾 We preserved his delicate pelt and skull, made some paw and nose prints, collected his whiskers and some extra fur, made a cast of his muzzle and paw, and also provided a water-based cremation.

Molding and casting is a great option for preserving details of a pet's features without using traditional taxidermy, and offers nearly endless possibilities. For Hugo, I painted his muzzle cast to look as realistic as I could manage, and his paw was painted with a high quality golden paint (a better option than real gold leaf for anything you want to handle often in my opinion). He had a funny little half smile in life, and I'm so glad we were able to capture that expression in a permanent way. 💜

Thank you to his wonderful mom for letting me be part of his journey, and for sending some sweet photos of him to share.

Bringing someone's unique vision of their pet's memorial to life is one of the things I love most about my work (even if I might spend a bit too much time anxiously overthinking the details).

This kitty, Wanda, had a sweet little white spot on her forehead, commemorated on her painted skull, and preserved along with her ears in a hat for her skull to wear. Her tanned pelt is lined with the fabric from her favorite bed, and a little secret is stashed inside - her favorite sock (which once belonged to her human).

I also returned her tanned tail, ink paw prints, and the water cremated remains of her body. I truly enjoyed working with you Wanda, and I'm glad to see you home. 💜🧦🐾

This preserved and articulated skeleton is part of a memorial created to honor the beloved L.O. 💜 🐾

I started quietly offering articulations not that long ago to families that expressed interest, but hadn't really made it "official." I find that I enjoy getting to spend so much time with the bones, acknowledging each one and helping it find its way home. So I suppose it's official now. 😊🦴

A very special and challenging memorial for Luci, a beloved bearded dragon. I cast a full reproduction of him in translucent, glittery, ✨glow-in-the-dark✨ resin, and his body now safely rests in a bath of preservation fluid.

I've done a fair bit of molding and casting, but this little friend being covered in tiny spikes definitely put my abilities to the test. It was a great learning experience, and I'm so grateful to his guardian for trusting me with this incredibly unique and fun memorial. I will think of Luci every time I find a random bit of glitter in the workshop, which will probably be pretty often! 😉

This heavenly cloud of floof belongs to (very appropriately named) Snowball, a well loved Great Pyrenees whose family had us preserve his entire pelt after he passed. My wife briefly mistook him for a polar bear while I was grooming, which was not unreasonable! Working with this large of a pelt is definitely a labor of love but seeing it finished and back with his family is well worth it.

Bobby is a very special kitten who passed from hydrocephalus far too young. It was such an honor that his foster family reached out to me to preserve his special skull and arrange for cremation.

Young pets are a special challenge because the bones of the skull haven't had a chance to fully develop and fuse together yet (a single cat skull is actually a collection of 29 different bones!), so I get to practice my puzzle skills in reconstructing them once they are cleaned. This sweet kitty's condition caused brain swelling, which distorts and enlarges parts of the skull.

As you can see from the last two photos, Bobby's life was filled with love and care, and his personality had a chance to shine brief and bright on this earth. It was lovely to be a small part of your journey, little one. 💜

Beautiful Bear, whose skull we preserved and coated with copper metal and a verdigris patina.

The patina chemicals react with the metal to create shades of blue-green, which are a little different every time. I then burnish by hand to reveal and polish the metal below. 💜

One of the things I love about my work is getting to honor pets just as they are. With missing teeth, crooked tails, imperfect fur, scars and other legacies of time spent in bodies that go through a lot with age. These stories the body tells are testaments to strong spirits, and the people who gave them the love and care to stay with us a while longer.

Rest well Tika, an 18 year-old Chihuahua with the kinkiest little tail. Thank you to her family for letting me preserve her skeleton and immortalize her tail through taxidermy. 💜

Oh hi, I'm still alive and helping pet families despite it being ⌚👀 a year and three months since I posted last. I've never been much of a social media person and this past May we welcomed our first baby and, well, here we are!

So I figured I might as well introduce my little family and the reason I've been running behind, hard to reach, and occasionally (ha!) distracted and forgetful.

Meet my lovely wife, our son, and myself (on the left). We worked very hard for five years to bring him into the world, through trauma, infertility, surgeries, lots of needles, travel, frustration, hope and joy. My wife carried him and is the strongest person I know.

Last year we remodeled much of our 100+ year old house to make it safer and generally making it more in line with modern life (hello, dishwasher!), which was mostly a DIY experience with the help (and tools) of many wonderful friends.

My wife went back to work full-time as a science teacher, while I stayed home trying to run a business and take care of him alone for 9+ hours a day. After too many months of stress, accelerated premature aging (I see you gray hairs), a chronic wrist injury, and not feeling like either of us were getting to enjoy the family we worked so damn hard to create, she quit her job earlier this month.

It's been a few weeks now of me catching up desperately on work, thanking my wonderful families for their patience, and slowly seeing the light at the end of the overwhelmed and behind tunnel. I never stopped accepting new pets, for better or worse, but I never want to turn away a family in need of the rare services we provide. I have a wonderful friend who is helping me (I'll introduce her in another post), and I'm feeling really optimistic and happy that I get to keep doing what I love.

So, to all my clients who have been so kind and patient with delays and slow replies, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'd have lost sleep over being so behind if I had any left to lose. 🙏🏼💜 I'm grateful for being so blessed in so many ways and can't wait to see this business grow along with our wonderful little boy. 😊

Today I got to send home such a special memorial for a beautiful orange kitty names Mac. We preserved his soft pelt and combined it with part of a very meaningful blanket to make something that I just love so much. A photo can't really capture it, so I will post a video separately. His taxidermy nubbin tail hangs from a simple loop, and we returned his microchip, paw prints, and the aquamated ashes of the rest of his body.

Rest in peace beautiful friend, how incredibly loved you are! 🧡
