From Stray Cat TNR ...

PLEASE do not refer to a friendly cat as "feral" simply because that cat lives outside - using stray or community cat is better.

The word feral means the exact opposite 🔁 of friendly and describes temperament ONLY.

Feral DOES NOT refer to a cat who is:
❌ Dirty
❌ Ear-tipped
❌ Homeless
❌ Unaltered
❌ Injured

🤔 A feral cat can be all those things, but those things don't make him feral.

❗️ The words feral and friendly describe the cat's temperament ONLY❗️

Feral DOES refer to a cat who is:
🐈‍⬛ Unhandleable
🐈‍⬛ Unsocialized to humans
🐈‍⬛ Fearful of people
🐈‍⬛ More comfortable visiting at night

You may be asking yourself, "What difference does it make?"

Since adult 'feral' cats are not socialized to people, they are likely to be euthanized if brought to shelters, so it is in their best interest to continue living outdoors. TRAP, NEUTER, RETURN is their best option for a better life for truly feral cats.

'Friendly' outdoor cats who are thriving and don’t have identification indicating they are lost can be fixed and returned to their outdoor home or fostered and adopted after a stray hold period if those resources are available in your area.

✅️ No matter if the cat is friendly, feral, scared, stray, semi-feral, or feeder friendly, make sure all the cats you feed are spayed/neutered and vaccinated.

Without meeting them in person, I agreed to help cover the cost of 6 cats to be fixed for a lady who uses my same vet clinic. The head secretary Jan at Kirkwood Animal Hospital told me that this long time client of theirs needs help with some young semi ferals and their mom and dad cats who need spay and neuter surgery. Free appointments are almost nonexistent so I agreed to cover the cost if they arranged the appointments and transport on their end. This note was super sweet 🥹 If anyone can help chip in, I’d be forever grateful!

Hey , we have too many pets in our shelter.

Our fully staffed team, our ✔️ are making sure the over 900 pets in our care are getting their basic needs met.

But we need you, our community, to provide short-term for the pets in our care as we head into our peak intake season.

Can you ? Can you ? Can you ? Even a two week break from the shelter helps make space for stray pets who will be claimed after the fireworks are over.

No advance applications or making appointments, just come on down to our Center at 📍2750 Monterey Road, in 📍 and pick out a dog, cat, rabbit for short term foster. Our will walk you through the process, get you approved and you can .

Thank you - We'll see you here soon. We're closed tomorrow for the holiday, but open again on Friday.

Thank you, Stray Cat TNR, for this reminder.

An eartip is not “ugly”, but rather, it shows someone cared enough to have the cat altered and vaccinated. 😻 Surely the cat doesn't care part of his ear is missing, since it is painless. Only humans (in all our vanity) care that the cat doesn't look like all the other cats. Look past the eartip, the size of the eartip, the angle of the eartip. None of that matters as much as the fact that someone took the time to have the cat altered. ❤️

The following text provided by bestfriends.org:

There are kind people around the country who keep an eye on community cats in their neighborhoods, helping to get the cats fixed through TNR programs. Ear-tipping allows them to tell from a distance whether or not a community cat has been spayed or neutered. That tipped ear saves the cat the stress of being trapped and anesthetized a second time.

Ear-tipping can also help anyone who is feeding the cats keep track of them and notice if a new cat has joined the community. It lets animal control officers know that a cat benefitted from TNR and has been seen by a veterinarian. In short, an ear-tip tells everyone that the cat has someone who has invested time and resources in his or her well-being.

Seven adult cats trapped and fixed in the last few days at this one house in San Jose. Three of them have kittens somewhere, hoping they will be easy to find with their mamas wearing Apple AirTag collars. This is so emotionally exhausting but so rewarding when it finally gets resolved. Thanks to the Humane Society in Milpitas for the free surgery appointments!

Hey y’all, I’m asking for a little bit more help again with funding some cat surgeries. Found a lady who’s been allowing her four cats and four dachshunds to breed continuously over the years and is constantly giving away or selling the kittens and puppies on the internet. I offered to get her cats fixed for her and I’m going to try to find a resource for the dogs. Thankfully, she is receptive to help. First cat is a spay abort at Kirkwood Animal Hospital. Bella has had multiple litters including some that have been born dead. She has been through enough and it’s time to stop the cycle of suffering.
Thank you so much for your consideration.

The rescuer of these tiny young opossums was actually one of WildCare's wonderful volunteers just returning home from his shift in the Wildlife Hospital! Fortunately, he knew to check for babies when he spotted the body of an adult opossum on the side of the road, and when he found them, he knew exactly where to take them!

Later, he checked his outdoor camera to see if he could tell when the accident happened, and posted a note to his neighbors on Nextdoor to remind them to slow down and watch for crossing animals, especially at this time of year when any animal could be a nursing mother with babies in her nest, den, or marsupium.

The camera showed that the mother opossum had been hit at 11:22 pm the night before. These little opossums had been on the shoulder for at least 15 hours before they were rescued, so in addition to potential injuries from the accident that killed their mother, they were also at risk for hypothermia and septicemia.

Medical Staff gently removed the babies from the mother’s pouch and gradually warmed them. Once their body temperature had been safely raised, they were given subcutaneous fluids to rehydrate them and an oral dextrose solution to counteract hypoglycemia.

For now, the surviving babies are doing well in the care of one of WildCare's opossum specialists. If mom opossum had not been killed, babies this age would still be attached to the ni**le that they swallowed when they’d first reached her pouch, or marsupium, after birth. This unique attachment means opossums don't have a natural suckling reflex like most baby mammals do, and must be tube-fed specialized formula every three hours around the clock until they are old enough to eat solid foods on their own.

It's this incredibly dedicated care that that will help them grow up to be curious, fluffy juveniles, and eventually, healthy adult opossums who are ready for life in the wild!

A mini trapping job in east San Jose popped up a few days ago after someone brought me 3 very sick kittens from their attic. The homeowner assisted in trapping the mom after I brought them a trap. I came back to try catching a few more since I spotted a few on the day I brought the trap and picked up the mom. I ended up with 2 toms and 2 heavily pregnant ladies, the last one taking a few extra days to cooperate and ultimately it was the Temptations treats that lured her in.
The kittens were accepted into the San Jose shelter and went off to a rescue group. Everyone else is being fixed and returned! There are more in the area that I’ll have the homeowner work on.

Cat math goes like this:
A fertile cat can produce an average of three litters in one year and the average number of kittens in a litter is 4-6.

This means by spaying just one stray cat, we prevent up to 4,948 kittens from that one cat and her offspring from contributing to the over population of strays over the course of 7 years.

Help Prevent Cat Overpopulation: Support My Spay/Neuter Program!

Dear Friends,

I am dedicated to tackling the issue of cat overpopulation head-on through focusing my efforts on spaying and neutering. As you may know, the unchecked breeding of cats leads to countless homeless and abandoned felines, resulting in overcrowded shelters and immense suffering for these animals.

A spay/neuter program is the cornerstone of my mission. By providing affordable or free spay/neuter services to both owned and stray cats, we not only prevent the birth of countless kittens who may end up homeless, but we also improve the health and well-being of the cats in our community.

With your generous support, I can expand the reach and make an even greater impact. Your donation will directly fund:

1. Spay/neuter surgeries for cats from low-income households, ensuring that cost is not a barrier to responsible pet ownership.
2. Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) initiatives for feral cat colonies, stabilizing populations and preventing future generations from suffering on the streets.
3. Educational outreach to raise awareness about the importance of spaying and neutering among pet owners and the general public.

Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a tangible difference in the lives of cats in our community. Together, we can work towards a future where every cat receives basic medical care and where cat overpopulation is a thing of the past.

Thank you for considering supporting my cause. Your generosity means the world to me and to the countless cats whose lives you will touch.

Warm regards,
