The length of the collar is usually calculated by the following formula: the circumference of the dog's neck + 5-7 centimeters.
Your pet will grow, so remember that two fingers should fit freely between the neck and the collar. If there is less space, it means that the dog has grown and he needs to update his ammunition.
The material (leather) should be dense and soft to the touch.
For dogs of large breeds, the width of the collar should be at least 3 cm, so as not to cause pain with sudden movements.
The fastening ring made of welded steel is considered the most durable.
The collar in which the fastening ring is removed from the fastener will be more convenient.
Leather collars with spikes do not justify their function – protection from attacks by larger dogs – but they look brutal. Therefore, they are for an amateur.
Rivets and rhinestones on collars will collect dirt, fall off and injure you and the dog, so they are chosen mainly by owners of miniature breeds that are less active and cleaner.
