Update on Martin!!! I paid a visit to Martin, the sick, skinny, homeless dog we brought back from Sint Martin in May. Martin was brought back to the USA by 4LR volunteer and Birmingham, Alabama veterinarian, Dr. Margaret Ferrell. His treatment for heartworm disease is nearly completed. His coughing and breathing problems have subsided, he has gained weight, and he is enjoying life in his forever home (In Birmingham) with Patricia and Chris Diffey and their 3 older children. He has boundless energy now. To see the change in his eyes from being completely hopeless to full of energy and happiness made that whole trip SOOOO worth it! Thanks to all those who donated to Martin’s care and sent well wishes. We made a huge difference in the life of this amazing boy! Fun Fact: Martin knows French! Although he was found on the Dutch side of the island, he understands the French language!

EXCITING NEWS!! Today 4 Leaf Rover did a trial run of our new mobile spay/neuter clinic! We spayed and neutered 15 animals for Homeless to Home Rescue in Marion. The clinic went without a hitch! We were done in 4 hours! Look for us touring the state helping homeless animals in a town near you very soon. MAARTEN UPDATE!!!! We have exciting news! Maarten has successfully arrived in the USA (he touched down in Miami 20 minutes ago) and is being adopted by Dr Margaret in Birmingham, Alabama!!! He went from being a very skinny, sick, street dog to flying internationally in 7 days! Thanks to everyone who has donated to cover his expenses. He is already undergoing treatment for tick fever, has been dewormed, and treated for external parasites and is on antibiotics for a very nasty respiratory infection. Once he is feeling better, he will begin treatment for heartworm disease. Here is his rags to riches story in pictures!!!!

IT’S OVER! The Sint Maarten spay/neuter campaign closed today by spaying and neutering 48 dogs and cats bringing the 5 day total to 251! Although we are tired, we are also beyond grateful for the amazing island volunteers who support our efforts. 4 Leaf Rover has sterilized 540 animals in two 5 day clinics on this island. What a wonderful team we had this year- work hard, play hard!! Until next year SXM…..

Day 4 of the Sint Marten Spay/Neuter Clinic is a wrap! We performed 49 surgeries today! The makes our total 203 to date. This year we are seeing many more dogs and fewer cats. We are grateful for the ability to help these dogs and cats and for the amazing rescue groups and volunteers who are tireless in their support! It truly takes a village to make something like this successful! Special thanks today to Dehka, St. Maarten Veterinary Clinic, Heather, Diana, Dorette, Mercedes, Carla, Sunitha, Stephy, Jason, and Eddie. Many more thanks to come!!!! See some pics of our day….

Update on Maarten: The starving, skinny boy we found on the island tested positive for heartworm disease and two types of tick fever. He has a soft cough, pus coming from his nose, and some difficulty breathing. We started him on some medication today and have spent the last 2 hours filling out paperwork in an attempt to fly him back home for treatment. If you would like to contribute to his transportation and medical costs, it would be greatly appreciated! We really want to save this boy! He has such a gentle spirit!

Day 3 of SXM2 Spay/Neuter Campaign Update- Thanks to everyone who supports our efforts, we were able to perform another 50 surgeries today! Each dog/cat is also being tested for heartworms and tick diseases, treated for fleas and ticks, and given pain medication and antibiotics. Thanks to Dr Long’s husband who is flying to the island tomorrow to join our efforts and bring more needed supplies. Thanks also to the The James Cancer Hospital for supplying all our suture and Idexx Laboratories for the heartworm and tick tests. We couldn’t do it without all of you! URGENT HELP NEEDED FOR STREET DOG! This handsome and very sweet young male dog was recently abandoned by his owners at the dump in SXM (Sint Maarten in the Caribbean). He was brought to our spay/neuter campaign yesterday to be neutered and tested. He is scheduled to be returned to the streets unless we can find a home for him! Can anyone PLEASE help him? He deserves to have a home and be loved! If not, can you please share until we find him a home!

We did it again! We found another dog we just can’t leave behind! We decided to go downtown to see the last day of carnival and hit up the food trucks for dinner. INSTEAD, we ran into the skinniest , most pitiful black lab begging for food. Madi bought him some chicken, and even though he was starving, he took each piece gently. We coaxed him into our van and brought him back to our villa (Thank you Jay!). Stay tuned for the rest of Maarten’s story. Getting into that van was the best decision he’s ever made!❤️

Day 2 of the Sint Maarten sterilization clinic was a great success! 57 more dogs and cats were spayed and neutered today. Animal lovers and rescue volunteers showed up to help with everything, including washing , packing , and autoclaving surgical instruments; moving cages in and out of the clinic, cleaning up after the patients, etc. Thank you to everyone who is helping! We couldn’t do it without you ALL!

Today was day 1 of our second Spay/Neuter Campaign on the island of Sint Maarten. A team of 9 USA trained veterinarians, RVT’s, and Veterinary Assistants gave up a week of vacation to help animals that need it most! We are purposefully targeting the poorest areas of the island for this year’s clinic. 4 Leaf Rover teamed up with Dr Eddie Lee, the St Maarten Veterinary Clinic, and many amazing animal rescue organizations to make this event happen! A super successful Community Cat Day #4 is in the books! 99 homeless, stray, feral, and low income cats were spayed or neutered, tested, vaccinated, and treated for parasites! Thank you to the 17 volunteers who gave up their Sunday to help these cats. Also, a big thank you to the sponsors-Taylor Metal Prducts, Milark Industries, AMC of Ontario, Idexx, Virbac, and Austin R. Burkhart.

We have been busy scheduling events to assist animals who need help! Our 4th Community Cat Day is this Sunday, April 7. Nearly 20 volunteers, including 5 veterinarians, have given up their day off to spay and neuter 115+ local feral, stray, homeless, and low income cats. IN ONE DAY!! It was Christmas in November today for 4 Leaf Rover when we received an AMAZING donation from The James Cancer Hospital in Columbus! We will be able to help literally THOUSANDS of homeless dogs and cats with this suture and other surgical supplies. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR ❤️❤️! A special thanks to our friend, Abby Brokaw, for organizing this drive! It means the world to our nonprofit and the animals we help!

Grand Turk 2 Completed! Thanks to Susan Blehr and the TCSPCA, Patsy & Marc, Liz & Ray, Claudia & Edgar, and the rest of the amazing volunteers of Grand Turk for facilitating a wonderful week! They donated their week trapping and transporting animals and assisting us in every way possible. The islanders donated our lodging, some of our meals, and brought us homemade snacks. It takes a village to pull off such a large mission, and we are truly grateful all those who helped !

Day 3 of the Grand Turk clinic is a wrap! Like most days here, we had highs and lows. One of the highs was getting done early enough to watch the beautiful sunset while floating in the ocean! One of the lows was having to turn a recently spayed, homeless, mother dog and her two 8 week old puppies back out on the beach because there just aren’t enough homes for them. For us, that is heartbreaking.💔

This was all day, every day, for five days. 287 surgeries. 287. Sit with that for a minute. 287 dogs and cats that are now healthier, less prone to a number of illnesses, and can no longer add to the overpopulation problem. It's a win any way we look at it.
