See how the carapace looks? That's what we call pyramiding. This occurs when the tortoise is suffering from nutrient imbalances such as too little or too much calcium, or deficiencies in metabolism.

Although the condition can be corrected by addressing the problem, the shell shape itself cannot be fixed. As once the shell has formed, it's permanent.

Conjunctivitis in a sulfate tortoise.

Conjunctivitis usually occurs when the eye becomes infected. This can be caused by bacterial infection, malnutrition, or the presence of foreign bodies that would irritate the eye. Conjunctivitis can be unilateral (one eye) or bilateral (both eyes).

Recovery is usually quick so long as treatment is immediately given, and the source of the problem is addressed.

Was fortunate to have been featured once again on this week's episode of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (One at Heart, Jessica Soho).

This week's topic was the use of home brewed oils as snake bite medicine as well as a treatment for various other ailments. Unfortunately, such practices are not only abusive to the animals being used to demonstrate the claimed medicinal properties of the oil, it is also harmful because people might actually believe it. This can lead to further harm when the said healing abilities are actually proven false and leads to a loss of life. The snakes used were a samar cobra (Naja samarensis) one of the country's venomous snakes and a Philippine temple pitviper (Tropidolaemus subannulatus) a pitviper species taht although venomous, its venom is not enough to kill a person.

As I said, most cases of snake bites from venomous snakes are accidental and usually "Dry" meaning the snake has used no venom at all, and only striked as a warning.

As stated by Dr. Cecilia Maramba-Lazrte, the use of medicinal plants should be backed by facts and science. I recommend that in cases of venomous snake bites, it is best to seek real, and professional medical help.

This playful little guy got a little to playful and slipped, which ended up spraining their leg. Fortunately the owners are hands on with raising him and he appears to be recovering fairly well.

Pugs, Boston terriers, and frech bulldogs be like:

The breeds mentioned above are part of what are classified as brachycephalic breeds. This group includes shih tzus, Lhasa Apsos, Spaniels, bulldogs, boxers and the likes. They are characterized by their short snounts, rounded heads and large eyes.

Generally these breeds are more prone to eye problema, heart problems and what has become iconic to them: Braphycephalic obstructice airway syndrome (BOAS) or Braphycephalic syndrome for short. This is a condition wherein they have difficulty breathing, have tendency to snore and snort due to their airways veing compressed. This also gives them their distinct snorting and breathinh sounds.

Axolotl: "say no more fam."

Axolotls are born with transparent skin. Similar to tadpoles, and rodents (mice, rats, hamsters).
This means that their organs can be seen with the naked eye.

But in the case of this leucistic axolotl, the skin lacks pigmentation (colors). This allows the skin to retain its transparency and be seen through. The big black thing inside it is the stomach.

Had to scrub the plastron of this small sulcata tortoise to check for fungal growth. Ended up cleaning the entire area. The redfoot stood there and watched the whole thing.

A bad case of tailrot on this red iguana.

The iguana is currently being kept in an enclosure without any UVB light or access to natural sunlight. This causes the animal to be weak and its normal functions decreased as well as imparing its metabolic functions.

Tail rot can occur from wounds or dysecdysis (stuck shed, bad shed). In cases of dysecdysis, the stuck shed cuts off the circulation of blood to the caudal (part towards the tip) part of the tail. This leads to the area dying off which causes the rot. Without treatment, severe cases would require tail amputation in order to prevent the dead part from causing sepsis (generalized infection) that would be fatal to the animal.

This little guy was suffering from a stuck shed that lead to an eye infection.

The owner requested a house call all the way in Batangas as soon as she noticed something was wrong. The gecko was checked and treatment was started on January 3rd. Now at around 2 weeks of continuous cleaning and medications, the condition has greatly improved.

Client compliance, proper diagnosis and treatment all worked together to help the patient recover.

This was posted in a facebook group for people seeking help for their pets.

As stated, the OP was considering buying a dog but the breeder proudly claimed that they already vaccinated the dog. The breedee presented this vaccine card:

Notice how the vaccine used was for feline species (cats) and not for dogs. They also included the sticker for the sterile diluent.

This is a clear red flag. The breeder not only used the wrong vaccine, but also had no knowledge of vaccines. It is also a violation of Republic Act no.9268 or the Act to regulste the practice of veterinary medicine.

Only veterinarians are qualified to vaccinate pets. The purchase, use and administration of vaccines by non-veterinarians is illegal.

Do not support or tolerate people who pretend to know what they are doing when it comes to animal health. Especially breeders, since this can lead to poorly condition or even sick animals being purchased and can help spread diseases.

Not a wildlife, but a random cat I found on the streets.

See that shaved part on its side? Thats not animal abuse. It's a sign that this cat recently got spayed via the flank incision method (removing the ovaries and uterus from the side instead of the belly). The procedure requires a smaller incision site and the would should heal faster.

Typically, house cats should stay indoors, but stray cats are usually taken in for the procedure to help control their populations.
