Gosch Kennels A breeder of Small Munsterlanders since 1996. The Small Munsterlander is a one of the newest versatile hunting breeds to gain popularity in the United States.

While they are relatively new here in the U.S., they have been around in Germany and Europe since the 13th or 14th century. In Europe the SM is bred to find, point, track, and retrieve upland birds, waterfowl, and fur-bearing animals. In the U.S. they are mainly used for upland and waterfowl hunting. In general, they are highly intelligent and capable dogs. They have very good noses and are excell

ent in the water. They will naturally point, track, and retrieve (on land and/or in water) game. The Small Munsterlander is good with children, and makes a great house dog. They make a great addition to any loving, hunting home.

The pups are growing quickly and looking good. I have one small male that gave us a bit of a scare two days ago and I thought we might lose him. A bit of supplemental feeding and some fluids seems to have him back on track and he is going good now. I am close to having all the pups spoken for, just waiting to hear back from a couple of people on my list.

Jig had her litter yesterday afternoon into the evening. She ended up with 1 female and 8 males. Not often we see a split like that, but they are all looking good so far. There is a good chance most, if not all, the pups will be spoken for already from my current list.

Quiglee has responded very well to the treatment and seems to be on the road to recovery. Her fever is gone, discharge is much better, and her appetite and activity are back to normal. She will continue antibiotics for a while to make sure the infection is knocked out. We were fortunate that the first treatments worked and we didn't need to use the other that would have required her pups to be taken away from her. The pups are growing like weeds and doing well.

Quiglee's litter at 3 days old. The pups are looking good, but Quiglee's hardship with this litter continues.

I noticed she was not eating much and was pretty lethargic so I asked my sister's advice (she is a vet for those that don't know) and she had me take her temp and check for discharge. The temp was very high with a discharge that is not the color you want to see. My local vet was out of town so I took her 1.5 hours north to my sister's clinic. It looks like she has a very dangerous uterine infection. This is my first complication like this in more than 50 litters over 28 years of breeding.

There are two treatment options with the first making it so that she could no longer nurse her pups because of the medication. I opted for to try the second option for a day or two to see if she responds so she can still keep her pups. The fever and pain medications seem to be working so far as her temp is down to normal this morning and she is starting to eat again. She is also more active. Now we wait and see if the fever comes back and the discharge clears up. Her progress is a good sign, but she is not out of the woods yet. Even feeling as poorly as she has she has been taking good care of the puppies. Hopefully, the meds continue to work and she gets better over the next day or so.

Quiglee had her litter starting yesterday and ending this morning. It was more difficult than normal and we were at the vet at 3:00 AM and barely avoided an emergency c-section. We lost several but still have 5 nice looking pups, 3 females and 2 males. I am working through my list now and all will likely be sold.

What a difference 2.5 weeks makes! Quiglee is currently having her litter, one male and one female so far.
